Reception Issues evo 4g lte

Mine went back the second day. The phone kept going to roaming in areas where I have always had reception (and I swap to a new phone pretty much every year). Not a good omen for an HTC. I'm going to try out the SG3, but am not optimistic due to Samsung's track record of poor radios.

I can't understand why these manufacturers continuously screw up the primary function of a phone.... If only Motorola could make a sexy handset...

I'll just throw this out there.

if i type *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and scroll down half way. I can pick EcDo Only. This makes my signal go into Roam with full bars and 3G. Although at some point with in the next hour the phone reboots it's self off and the setting is back to normal.

I tried this yesterday and while I had full bars, my phone would not receive calls. I switched it back to normal mode and then I got 9 voicemails and a bunch of texts. I guess that mode is to make calls. :(

I'm getting great signal. I couldn't even use my Nexus S 4G. In the same room my Evo LTE is going strong.

Is everybody with data connectivity issues in a 1st round LTE market? I had the same problems that occurred after about a week of flawless EVO LTE performance. Sprint confirmed that they were updating some towers near my apartment (San Francisco) that started on Saturday.

Also, my signal issues completely went away when I left my apartment and went to work or even when I walked to the next neighborhood over. Also, as of yesterday, signal in my apartment is back to normal, and almost seems a little faster now (I'm getting 2.2Mb/s late in the evenings!)

I'm hoping this all just means that our LTE is coming sooner rather than later.

That's an interesting theory. I remember reading on S4GRU that in Chicago the service quality overall was a bit poorer because of people going between NV towers and non-NV towers (some handoff issue). But the bottom line is that if the service quality is degraded no matter where you're at, it's an inconvenience.

I'm having issues too in zip 72117. Sprint says it's due to the towers are overloaded, upgrade completion due in a couple of weeks. I'll see if it improves then, if not, phone going back.

Exact same situation for me. Nexus S 4g radio issues, but none with EVO. Same for GPS.

Okay same reception issues with the new EVO 4g LTE-- I did find that turning off the mobile network and turning it back on helped for a little bit. Google maps would not load during navigation that was a pain. here are some pictures of the fluctuation in 3g speeds. I hate to say it but it looks like I may roll the dice with the new S3. I can not see this being a sprint issue as I did not have these problems with my OG EVO 4G before I traded it in.

For the record the file sizes in the email image are
12:49 = 248kb image
12:51 = 478kb image

WIFI signal fluctuations:

granted I am at a Ramada Plaza the phone can not stay connected to a wifi signal for very long with out either dropping or disabling -- NOTE my evo did not have a problem staying connected once it got connected to the WIFI network. These pictures are in order On the 3rd floor of a Ramada plaza. was informed that all there are WIFI access routers on every floor ....

The pictures were taken over a few minutes

Gonna keep this quick but I am seeing poor reception (ex- Signal strength, data speeds, late messages) where my OG Evo 4G used to shine. Anyone else having this problem?

I live in a brick building, always had some reception problems with my old phone (HTC hero) but a long as I be near window I could make & receive calls, but now with the evo lte I'm having a lot of problems. No problems outside, but I figure I bought a better phone would at least the same reception.

On PRL Version 25004 and PRI Version 2.28_003

I too am frustrated. Oakland, CA. I'm a heavy podcaster and the original EVO always downloaded downloaded faithfully, frequently on 3g; EVO lte downloads fail all the time; sometimes have to restart 5 or 6 times...and multiple downloads rarely finish except on wifi.

otherwise, love this phone...my aging eyes really appreciate it. May go back to EVO 3g till dana comes out which sucks .. in all other respects this phone rocks!.

I wish I could help other then give the usual blurb:

Try a reset
Update prl
Update profile
Turn the phone off for a few minutes

Other then that I cannot help as mone seems to be working perfect. But I know you frustration as that was my 13/14 days with a gnexus.

I don't understand why people keep saying they have a bad track record with radios. My family has had 5 moments and 5 epics that all performed perfectly.

North suburbs of Chicago.

Ok, can't say this is for everyone. But Chicago is currently being worked for NV. By my house, north suburbs of Chicago as well. I called sprint, for very low data speeds, I mean low. .05kbps with 2000ms ping as she didnt know the details of what was going on with the tower. She verified there were people there working on it. From the other sources, I know what to expect when they get NV to towers. The tower was never down, it was just crippled. From my understanding they swap things out, without killing the whole tower. So my guess is, some of the people that are seeing low speeds, is just the tower being overhauled. My speeds were back to normal the next morning. Still not LTE but normal is better then what that was.

Also note, the bars don't always reflect everything. I had full bars, with not speeds at 10pm. so it wasnt peak hours

just figured Id share

One thought on anyone having reception issues. My reception had been excellent, then today my wifi signal was only showing one dot, all my other devices had excellent signals. I noticed that one I had swapped SD cards, the upper part of the case had not fully snapped into place, after removing the cover and snapping it back in place my signal was back to normal. Remember, there are two antennas on that part of the cover and if not seated correctly could cause issues.

Do you think cases would bring down the antenna power too then ?

My experience has been the complete opposite, my Nexus S 4G was getting a better signal... Go figure! I am totally ready to have a phone with better reception.
I have another week to see if it gets better, if not the LTEvo's going back

What part of SF do you live (or rather were you having bad reception)? My gf lives in Sunset, and the last couple of days have been suddenly HORRIBLE reception, to the point of calls being choppy and dropped often, texts not going through and a few other wonky things. She did the whole update this and that, restart blah blah blah but nothing helped.

I'm currently in south SJ, where reception is intermittent in different areas, mostly 6-7 out of 10 rating of signal. And I'm already missing the ability to get WiMax when away from WiFi (even though it was a battery killer). I'm hoping LTE gets to the Bay Area quickly!

So far ive had no issues with reception or wifi I hope they do fix the camera though that reddish **** has to go =(
