Red exclamation icon in notification bar when on USB...

I've been playing around with my phone today, getting some music loaded (which has been a great success), but now I have a disconcerting icon in my notification bar.

The icon appears when I attach my phone to my computer via USB. It's a red, triangular icon with an exclamation point inside. When I go into the notifications and press on what it says, it asks me if I want to mount my SD card, which is normal, but then it says something about how I need to "turn off USB storage."

I cant seem to get rid of this icon. I accidentally unplugged without going through the "safely remove hardware" thing in windows...so I suppose I may have corrupted something in my SD card (?). Windows wants to "fix" something in my F: drive when I mount the SD. Frown.

Help is appreciated.

Here's an awkward shot of what I'm talking about.

Yeah it's weird when I plug in my Fascinate it's like I lose everything on my SD Card while it's plugged in. Including my ringtone from Zedge. I don't have USB Debugging enabled and it does it whether I'm mounted or not. Kind of strange.

It seems that if you have your SD card mounted (i.e., your computer is currently treating it as a removable mass storage drive), your phone cant access its contents. That kind of makes sense.

I still want to know what this red exclamation point is about though.

i thought it was more or less a warning/reminder not to unplug the usb hook up without unjacking the phone first, as supposedly this could wipe your hard drive on the phone?

You sure you don't have USB debugging enabled? 100% sure?

If you've used adb , you've had to turn it on. Double check.

Settings - > Applications - > Development

Debugging definitely wasn't enabled. I'm 100% sure.

I ended up rebooting the phone earlier today (for something unrelated) and the old USB icon is back. Shrug. All is well:cool:

I can't get mine to go away. USB debugging disabled. Restarted several times...

USB drivers from rooting perhaps?

I always get that but everything seems to work fine. I'm able to put music on my phone from my comp and able to put pictures from my phone on my comp. And I do have USB debugging enabled.

I ended up getting the "scan for errors" message on my laptop...so I let it scan. Then disconnected the phone using the eject command, unplugged it, then plugged it back in.

The red triangle is now gone.

It's just a glitch after being rooted and flashed. This will go away when you reboot your phone. It seems to me that this glitch occurs when I make any changes to SD Storage......such as adding roms or kernels; i may be wrong.
