Okay here we go. Wife got brand new S8. Finally got CDMA card thru RedPocket. All set up worked for one day. Next day, there was a software update. Now it gives me an occasional "SIM Data Refreshing". Also, even though I have a signal (that comes and goes) it still says "Emergency Calls Only", and it can't find the network. I know the SIM works in another phone and that SIM has same issue in this phone. Have done resets galore including Wipe Cache and Hard Resets. Still nothing. Really at a loss now. :-

Did you figure out how to resolve this issue? I'm so annoyed. I just bought my S8 and have the exact same problem. My CDMA card is through RedPocket too.

Contact Red Pocket directly and ask for assistance. The card could be bad, the account could be "provisioned" (set up) incorrectly or they may not be able to handle something that happened in the new update. (And this isn't some 8 year old phone - if they can't handle the S8, they'd better find out why and fix it, or they're going to have a lot of unhappy customers, and many times that number of negative articles written about them.)

I suppose it might depend on how important it is to use that particular carrier/network.

You could try a replacement SIM card - that one might be damaged/not sitting correctly in the tray and it was just luck that it worked before, but.. the failure after an update is a bit of a coincidence. Perhaps kpeavy can confirm whether it was the software update which broke it for them?

or

Change network [to one which works with the software you now have on your phone]

or

Completely reset phone, install prior known good version and disable further updates (this will take quite a long time and is quite tricky to do)

No need to reset if he's going to flash an old ROM - he'd want to reset after flashing the old ROM anyway. And disabling ROM updates requires root. It takes almost no time and isn't tricky, it's just a matter of finding the OTA app. (Disabling app updates? That can take days, and doesn't actually work - Play updates some apps that are set to not update.)
