Release Dec. 8th?

Not to be the bearer of bad news but...

P3Droid along with PydePypper posted on twitter a couple of responses this morning that were a bit alarming to me.

News: Samsung Galaxy Nexus Again Rumored For December 8th Release Samsung Galaxy Nexus Again Rumored For December 8th Release Samsung Galaxy Nexus Release Date

PydePypper: @MyDroidWorld I wouldn't count on that from what I just heard last night.

P3Droid: @PydePypper I swore today I wouldnt talk about it, don't need everyone to be pissed all over again.

i really hope this doesn't mean that December 8th is already out the window. :'(

You can't always believe what they say. I mean the other day p3 said he was going to troll hard all day how do you know they aren't just doing that? I mean they both work on tbh so it wouldn't surprise me.

I'll actually be surprised if Verizon makes the 8th. They're all in now. It's obvious that Verizon doesn't care when the phone comes out. They're not worried about customer outrage. There's not another phone coming out in December they care about. They want the Razr to be the holiday phone.

Supposedly droid 4 may make an appearance in dec.

Whats really going to send people over the edge is when the GNex doesn't even make it in time for the extended verizon "return/rental" period.

Anyone remember what happened to the Nexus One on Verizon? Basically they kept saying "It's coming, it's coming, it's coming, we decided not to sell it after all, just buy a Droid Incredible instead."

Now the story is "It's coming, it's coming, it's coming..." At what point do they say "We decided not to sell it after all, just buy a Droid Razr instead"?

So renting will actually become lease-to-own. :p

Anyways if TBH's information is true, then it would not surprise me if they pushed it off till Dec. 15th. They're really squeezing that "later in the year" deadline aren't they?

As much as I fear this scenario, I don't think it'll come to that this time around. This phone has much higher visibility than the Nexus One and I don't remember Verizon coming out with an announcement. I believe that was just Google who said it was coming in Spring 2010 (which never happened) on their website and then said to get the Droid Incredible instead. However, it does make you wonder if they're trying the same tactics with the GNex.

Verizon should be smart enough to know that there is potentially a lot of NEW business riding on the GNex release. I'm one of those people, but you only have to read this forum for a few minutes to see that there are quite a few of us out there. There are a LOT of people who bought the Apple 3G and 3GS in 2009, and whose AT&T contracts are expired. We are investigating our options right now. Does Verizon want that business or not?

The RAZR and Rezound are nothing special. Every carrier has similar phones available. I can avoid the hassle, stay with AT&T and get a Skyrocket that meets or exceeds those specifications. The GNex is the number one reason why I would want to go through the hassle of switching carriers right now.

This situation is mildly ridiculous. The only thing preventing me from buying a RAZR right now is I know that's what Verizon wants me to do, and I refuse to fall into their trap. Well, that and the screen and blur...

I'd buy an iPhone before I'd keep this Razr. Now if I didn't know the Galaxy S2 or the Nexus existed, then I probably wouldn't care too much, but I've seen what's better and this phone just isn't worth it.

I can't believe we've gotten to a place where 12/8 is now optimistic after the initial press conference was scheduled to take place during the first week of October before it was pushed back.

The phone could come out tomorrow, or not come out at all, and I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Good point. They need to hustle. I wouldn't pass up an upgrade of a Skyrocket for a Razr or Rezound. That is a lot of potential new customers.

I'm also realistic they know there isn't a lot of buzz about this phone. I'll bet 95% of cell owners have never heard of a Nexus and the rest of the 4% don't care at all. Most of the last 1% are ambivalent. It's us .01% that are rabid.

That being said, I want it yesterday! I played the waiting game on the Bionic back when it was called the Terminator. I'm over a year on my upgrade now. My OG is struggling to stay alive...

It's kind of funny reading all of these posts telling VZW how they market and run their business.

For some reason I get the feeling VZW knows what it's doing. I also doubt that even if for some reason they didn't release the Nexus the impact if any would all that negative for their bottom line.

Just look at the reactions of some so far. Some folks are throwing even more money at VZW by "renting" phones from them.

Just feeding their ego's...

This makes me think of the classic quote from Coke CEO "some think we changed the formula of Coke as a marketing ploy. We are not that smart and we are not that dumb."

I disagree. The only phone that's been more hyped in the press in recent memory is the iPhone 4S. I know that Mr. & Mrs. America aren't necessarily waiting with baited breath for this thing, but I also think it already has a higher public profile than maybe any other Android phone released to date (the original Droid might be an exception).

More folks are now looking seriously into Android for the first time. When I got my 3GS in 2009, Android was still practically in its infancy and was widely seen as too clunky to be a serious competitor to iOS for the regular smartphone user. Business people were still tied to their Blackberries and Windows Mobile phones, since corporate IT guys didn't want to deal with iPhones. All that's changed dramatically in just two years. The pace is change in this market is pretty amazing.

Don't underestimate the impact that the underwhelming release of the 4S had. The iFanboys were going to buy it regardless, but there are a lot of iPhone users out there willing to look at alternatives. I'm guessing the GNex is going to sell a lot more units than some people here think. That's assuming Verizon deigns to release it, of course. The GNex and ICS are both squarely on point to appeal to people accustomed to iPhones.

When they made their announcement back in October I kind of saw the GN as the first phone that could really stand toe to toe with the iPhone for a lot of people. Obviously most of us here prefer Android for our various reasons, but for a lay person not familiar with smart phones I thought the GN might be a real serious alternative.

Two months later, not even a peep about the damn thing. So frustrating.

Yeah, I'm probably guilty of that. However, I've learned over the years never to assume the competence of large organizations. They reach a certain point and then run on inertia more than anything else.

As long as Verizon keeps dotting the land with more cell towers than AT&T, they can pretty much run the rest of the business on auto-pilot. The only aspect of customer satisfaction they appear to have any interest in is strength of signal. Does any customer have warm feelings towards big red? It's like dealing with the Post Office or the DMV, but more ruthless.
