Removable battery a complete non issue if your considering a S4 Vs. One

Yeah, the entire phone is toxic, but the longer I make it last the better. Saying things like "you only need to prolong batteries if you can't replace them" is just ignorant. We all do terrible stuff to the planet. Why not try to do simple things to be less terrible. Also mining lithium isn't that great so the more batteries you buy... You get the picture. Look, if you honestly cannot for some reason get to a plug for very long periods or carry a small battery pack with you (no clue how since some of them are less than half a wallet size) then fine, you NEED a replaceable battery, but until then, maybe think twice about how you use your electronics. I sound like I'm ranting, I know, but stop for a moment and think. I've explained some pluses of external packs (there are others like being able to charge multiple devices, something you can't do with a spare battery) but really I just want people to think.

I knew I wasn't crazy when I could have sworn I saw local collections at various stores.

Edit. My bad. I hadn't read the entire page at first either.

Paragraph 8.

Yeah I read all the way, I stand corrected in my correction. But do you at least see my point? And I can bet recycling isn't all clean and green. All I'm saying is sometimes you need to put down the fork, so to speak. I get a bit irritated when I post an article about how to prolong batteries and get something along the lines of "you only need to do that if you can't replace your battery" I never said replaceable batteries are inherently bad, I'm just saying people who claim they are necessary might be wrong.

I said no such thing. There's a huge black hole between abusing your battery just because you can and don't give a crap about the Earth, and simply not fretting about your juice box because it's easily replaced and disposed of should it die a premature death.

Besides, since they are indeed being recycled, it doesn't even matter except to your own wallet. Sprint sold me a spare for my S3 for $5 so I'd say the overall impact is minimal.

Plus, since I can easily replace my batteries, I can go for YEARS on this same phone instead of replacing the whole thing because the battery croaked and we're beyond the manufacturer service date. I probably won't because I'm an upgrade ***** like everyone else...but I could. Or, at least, the new owner will have a longer life with it should I sell it.

Either way I've got a battery that needs recycled and you have an entire phone that needs recycled.

Neither of us has an Eco High Horse to sit on.

By the way, charging more frequently taps the grid which taps the coal which needs mined.

Or it taps the grid which taps the nuclear which creates waste that needs disposed of.

There is no actual win here, unless you use solar. I doubt you do though. It has its own problems...such as poor efficiency, high cost, and well...screwing you when it's not sunny.

I don't dispose of my phones ecologically. I grind them up into tiny bits and put them in a nearby farmer's field. His animals have looked goofy for years.

I think we agree to some extent. The only issue I have still is are you certain that spare battery is made from all recycled parts? Just a thought. Yeah they recycle, but how effectively? I think I need to look into this. Anyhow, sorry if I came off as rude. If anything I said gave you some thought I'll be happy. You brought up some valid points as well. Cheers.

I try to use it as much as possible.

I see SO many people post this idiotic comment on device reviews: "no sd card, no removable battery, no sale". Right, because aside from all the other specs you just read about, the CPU chip+RAM, the OEM's skin, the camera features, the other features, the audio, the build quality, the display, reception.... this is what it boils down to for you: t3h SD kard and remuvible batteree. In my books that makes you pretty much on even footing with a door wedge. Seriously what's wrong with these people? That car doesn't have a cigarette lighter? Fail! Fail!

What is a fail is your post. Why do people think everyone must use something the exact same way? They do not. People seem to get especially bent out of shape on this one issue and I just don't get it. Other people's shopping criteria should be irrelevant to you. Just as yours should not matter to them. Buy what works for you. But don't expect that to work for someone else too. Different people have different needs.

While I agree on principle, I think the point op is making is this is a forum for a phone without a removable battery or sd card. People are free to have any opinion but why they have to go out of the way to state it is the off putting part. It's as if I went to crackberry and found a post about physical keyboards (I know it's a bit antiquated but wait) and said "I need all the screen real estate I can get so a keyboard is out of the question this phone is a no sale" It may be true, but it's useless and a bit childish if you ask me. So no, I don't go to forums to tell people what is wrong with their phones but I will debate someone who comes to a forum dedicated to a phone I own just to state their dislike of it. I do agree though that the post wasn't the best way to say it.

I wouldn't bash anyone for choosing whatever they choose. I just take exception to anyone saying "it works for me so it MUST work for you too or you're an id1ot."

I hope I never implied that. If I did I'm sorry.
Edit: misquote. I was arguing with two people. Sorry dchawk. You've been nothing but civil. I think bed.

I have a use case scenario that I think speaks in favor of swapping your battery.

I like Google Play Music. Especially the new All Access thing. I plug in my earbuds and relax in bed. I'm not near an outlet. Blame poor house design or something. Or just say I don't want to have an extra cable to hinder my ability to squirm around in bed. I listen to my jams. I fall asleep. Music is still playing. Unlimited data/WiFi is not an issue here. I wake up the next morning to silence. My eardbuds fell out overnight and my phone went dead. Absolutely flat.

****. I gotta go to work. I don't have time to charge the phone, and my commute isn't long enough to get a day's worth of juice into it. I don't work in a cubicle so that's not a charging option.

Oh wait. There's a battery in the charging dock. I'll pop the fresh one in my phone and put the dead one in the dock. A minute or so later I have a phone in my hand that'll get me through my day, and that dead battery will be fresh and waiting for me to switch and Google Play all over again.

I'm self-employed but you can substitute any activities that kill the battery and then I have to go somewhere without the luxury of charging first. It happens quite frequently. I actually do put the phone in my back pocket with earbuds while working. The battery goes quick that way.

If you don't have these problems, that's awesome. The One and many others are GREAT phones.

No worries. It gets confusing easily. You should see the anti-gun thread. :D

Fair enough. Could I suggest you put a sleep timer on play music though? Just a thought. Or use bluetooth headphones so you can charge and listen? Just asking here. Would you consider that an option that may in fact dissolve your honest need for a removable battery?

I don't see a sleep timer in Google Play. It'd have to be a separate app I guess.

I don't own Bluetooth headphones, but that would be yet another device to charge. Audio quality is also sketchy on those, as far as I'm aware. I like my wired jBuds.

I guess I could bust out my big orange extension cord. :-D

Well the sleep timer would have to be another app like Tasker or something but it's doable, it is Android after all. I do not personally own bt headphones but if my car stereo is any indication of audio quality I wouldn't be let down. I'm with you on wired though. I never go anywhere without either my Vmoda vibes or Shure earbuds. I'm sure bt sounds Ok but I doubt they will impress me. I've done the extension cord thing. Nothing like waking up with something wrapped around a body part.
