I have been told it not using battery but it does show it is running and has been on as long as the phone is on.

You need root to remove pre-loaded apps.

I second this solution ;)

To give more indepth explanation on what Patrixl said, when you buy a phone from a carriet (att, sprint, etc) it comes with what's called a "carrier skin". Things like Moto-blur, touch-wiz, sense, etc. Think of it as a mini OS on top of android, loosely speaking. Also, they come with pre-installed apps. Things they "think" you need and want. These skins are what makes the phones unique amongst the competition.

The downside, is that because the device is basically locked, you can't remove these things. And for a good reason. They don't want people messing around in the heart of Android. You can mess up the phone, and the carrier would have to deal with the support.

Sooooo... developers program workarounds to this, in the form of what we call "root". This gives us access to the secured area of the android OS, allowing us to remove these unwanted apps. (also allows us to flash custom roms, recovery, etc).

To root your phone, voids the warranty. Everybody should know this. This is why your carrier would not help you remove the apps, because if they did, they would have to root the phone, which goes against the carrier's policy.

If you really wish to go farther with root, there is info on this website explaining in more detail. For the process, check your phone's specific forum, should be some folks there who have already done this. And of course, ask questions to us!!

Or just go to settings, applications, manage apps, scroll to the facebook app and click on it. Hit the clear cache and then uninstall updates. This effectively shuts the app down, but does not remove it.

uninstall update only remove the updates, app will still be useable.
