renaming your ROM

Is there a reason that it is necessary to rename your ROM to update? Will it mess up if you dont?

no, there is no need to rename it. I have like 5/6 different ROMs stored on the sd card now for random flashing and all are named what they are (Darchdroid, Kool-Aid... whatever). I personally wouldn't change the name because then you can get them mixed up.
