Restoring After Rooting

So, I only made a backup through HTC Sync before rooting my phone yesterday.

If I want to restore my phone using that backup and keep root, can I just simply go into HTC Sync and restore from the backup?
By not using ADB Fastboot, did I miss an opportunity here in total to restore?
Or, will it restore and I lose root?

Basically I deleted some photos, wanted them back - downloaded DiskDigger, saw I needed root. I rooted and re-downloaded DiskDigger, which did not find my photos that were deleted, so I'm thinking maybe.... if I restore and root access stays, that DiskDigger may find them.

Please help.
Thanks!

I have not used HTC Sync, but according to their support page (for the Evo 4G LTE) you can restore certain backup files such as photos. I would suggest connecting and following the onscreen prompts to restore the appropriate backup file (media) to the device and see if that restores your photos. Otherwise, there won't be any other way to retrieve those photos. Also, in the future, if would be a good idea to confirm that the photos or any other parts of your data were backed up before deleting content on the phone. Regarding root, the device should remain rooted if you restore the photos backup.

Also, now that you are rooted and possibly using a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) you can use that to make a full system backup of the device just in case you need to restore it.

Thank you, yeah using TWRP. But the photos were not backed up and are gone... oh well, I tried.

That's unfortunate. Be sure to keep them safely backed up in the future. Also be sure to double check the backup to make sure it's actually there and safely stored. For reference, I use Google Photos (Drive) to backup photos and have enabled it to automatically sync when connected to Wi-Fi. This way I don't use carrier data and I don't have to worry about not having a backup if I needed to clear the device.
