Restoring content....

I am in the process of transferring data from my iPhone 5c to a Pixel 2. Followed all the instructions and everything seemed to be going fine, but now I have been stuck on a step that reads "Restoring content..." for 40 minutes. It only took 5-10 minutes to actually copy the files before getting stuck at this stage. Something does not seem right. Should I let it go for a little while longer, or hit 'stop copying' and see what happens.

Thanks.

Same here. iPhone 7+, Pixel 2 XL - restoring content for 6 hours now. I interrupted it the first time around after about 5 hours - looks like most of the photos got copied, but none of the text. My guess is that reorganizing the text DB takes forever. The good news is that you can unplug it from the iphone without any visible effect. Gonna leave it overnight, if it doesn't finish in the morning - I'm returning it.

Returning the phone? Because the texts won't transfer? Your call obviously but seems extreme to me. I never looked into it, but it would mashes serve to me if transfers from an iPhone are more difficult, esp texts, since they have such different formats on the phone.

Why would you even bother getting the phone? I don't understand ... All because some text messages are taking awhile to download onto your pixel? Sheesh 1st world problems I guess..

Did a factory reset and tried again and had the same problem. Another person in a Google support forum had the same problem and was told that it was because his Apple software was not up-to-date before he attempted the transfer. I checked my iPhone earlier this week and it said it was up-to-date. Whatever...not happy that the text messages did not transfer, but it is not the end of the world. Really like the phone and this is my first Android phone so I want to stick with it.

Try transferring the small stuff without things like photos, music and apps. Use Google drive on your iPhone and follow the backup directions in that app to transfer your photos. Apps and music you can do separately.

Just a quick update (on the substance of the conversation, anyway) - the restore did not finish overnight. After experimenting with dozens of repeated restores this morning, I found that the data transfer tool is unable to sync the text messages. The background process stops at random points but the tool does not clearly indicate this, instead looking like it continues to sync. When I uncheck text messages, the sync process reports finishing correctly, but it still omits hundreds of items. Mostly photos and videos, but some random calendar appointments and contacts too.

While all of these are transferable by other means, it requires carefully resolving any conflicts. This is definitely not in line with the "Google, why does my phone..." advertising push, which for me is a deal-breaker issue. Of course, your opinion on this may be completely different, and that's perfectly fine. I returned the phoneabout an hour ago desipte the overall positive impression it left - the hardware is spectacularly good, and many tiny nuances of day-to-day interactions had a lot of though go into them.

sorry to hear your troubles my transfer with my n6 went great ... including texts

Regardless of platform, I use Google services such as Voice, Hangouts, and Calendar so my content is available from any phone or computer. No need to backup or transfer anything. It's just there . . .

why do people transfer over text messages? I've never even bothered doing that, I've been in the Android ecosystem for awhile now though, and switching between phones I never bothered with that.

Photos not transferring could be because of the new HEIF image format apple introduced with ios 11. Most anything outside of Apple doesn't currently recognize them.
