i have a sprint note 3.

i got a notification about some sort of deal from reatailmenot. when i clicked on the notification, it directed me to the play store and to the reailmenot app.

the only thing that i did before this happened was that i activated google wallet and bought gta san andreas. i turned off notifications on google wallet except for notifications for purchases, transfers and money recieved. turned off notifications for nearby items and updates.

i never installed retailmenot. how and where did this notification come from and how can i make it stop?

It's not related to Google wallet. It could be from gta or it's from another app you installed. And it's an ad, which is why it took you to the app in the play store because the point of the ad was to get you to download the app.

You should never click on unwanted notifications like that. Much worse can happen than being taken to the play store. If it happens again, long press on the notification until "app info" pops up and click on that. It will take you to the app that is spamming you and you can uninstall it or turn off notifications.

Did you ever get this figured out? I am using and HTC One m7 and I started having this exact same problem today.

What games do you play? Maybe we can figure out a common application that is causing this.

Sprintzone is spamming me with this. Not happy.

when the ad came up in my notifications, i didn't know about the long press functionality to find out what app was spaming me, so i'm not sure if i've sorted this out or not.

besides gta, i haven't installed any other games or apps before i had this issue.

one idea came up when i read jim w's post though. in addition to installing a game, i recently updated sprintzone as well when this started happening. i'm wondering if sprintzone was the culprit.

i was poking around sprintzone and my sprint account looking for things i could turn off. notifications for the app are turned off. one thing i did see is a setting for my sprint account called Manage mobile advertising and reporting preferences.

my sprint->update my profile->Manage mobile advertising and reporting preferences

i set those to off.

again, i'm not sure if i've sorted out my issues or not. also, i'm not sure if setting Manage mobile advertising and reporting preferences to off will help either. i'm just waiting to see if this happens again so i can track down what app is spamming me.

not so happy with sprint these days. spamming like this and especially having to pay for voicemail really ticks me off.

paying for voicemail on a cellphone is like buying a car, but having to pay extra for tires and wheels. what the heck.

This seems to be a widespread problem. A Sprint Zone update just got pushed to my phone OTA and now I received a RetailMeNot spam notification. Bad move Sprint.

Sprintzone pushed a new app called fun and games. You cannot remove this app, but it does have settings to turn off notifications. Check that out.

so did you get exactly the same thing i did, a notification about retailmenot?

did you do the long press and find that it was indeed sprintzone?

Yes and yes. I was home late so I haven't been able to poke around to see how to stop it. I guess I'll get a thread going on sprints forum to see.

Didn't even notice that... It has the same icon that shows for the notifications as well. I wonder why the app info doesn't display that?

I was able to remove it by uninstalling Sprint Zone updates on my Note2, through the application manager. It looks like it might have even removed Sprint Zone itself (fingers crossed)!

Think this will take care of retailmenot notifications
After reading this forum, this is what I did. I just got note 4 & updated sprint zone then I started getting a daily push notification from retailmenot.

In the Notification Center (the pull down menu at the top with the notification in it) I long pressed the notification as 'jpr' suggested...then got a popup of 'App Info' which took me to Sprint Zone app info... The Show Notifications box was 'checked'. I 'unchecked' it & got a popup that said I may miss important Alerts & Update info from this app if I turn off notifications. I said OK.

The other way to get there & turn this notification off is go to:
Settings/Application Manager/Sprint Zone then unchecked the Show Notifications box.

I just did this today, so I won't know for sure til tomorrow...but I'm sure this is the culprit!

I'm outraged! Open sprint zone, settings, uncheck lots of boxes including "automatically update fun and games" There was no notice of this being installed, and it shows up in recent apps. Can not locate it anywhere,it is integrated in Stink zone. I am going to uninstall back to factory version, and send a nasty email AND nasty comments in the sprint forum. This is like having adware installed without your permission! I have a ton of adjectives building up in me right now!.

just woke up and checked this thread, it seems sprint zone is the culprit as I just had a random update for it pushed to my phone yesterday as well. I've disabled the notifications now and I haven't been bothered by it.

I think I need to just root my phone and get it over with so I can get rid of this garbage once and for all

yup, it happened again this morning and found out it was sprintzone.

basically did what photophreek did. it's outrageous that you can't turn this off via the app, but have to force it to. isn't this the very definition of malware?

i've been a sprint customer for a long time and this makes me just want to switch to another carrier.

I started receiving these spam messages a couple of days ago and noticed the RetailMeNot notifications always appear at the same time as a sprint zone notification. I also noticed something on my phone called "Fun & Games". The app is tied to sprint zone, and has ties to RetailMeNot. I turned off notifications in the "Fun & Games" app. Hopefully that will stop the spam.

Update: Uninstalling the Sprint Zone updates also removed the Fun & Games app from my phone.
