[Retired][ROM]Superclean 2.9.2 EA15/EB01/EB16/EC10 Based

Ok i just now realized that the settings softkey unlocks the phone anyone else seeing this

I noticed this on a prior releases as well. I thought it was a bug with the Rotary style lock, so I changed it and it was fine on the prior release. However, when I tested on 2.9.2 NV it is still unlocking with the menu softkey.

Mine isn't doing this. I have NV.

I had not noticed this either but had wondered a few times how it became unlocked. Just checked and yes this happens on mine too.

Just today I wanted to clean things up so I am on a fresh SC 2.9.2.

I used the new CWM and mad sure /dbdata was mounted along with the rest. I did a data wipe / davlik wipe / cache wipe. I ran fix permissions and flashed SC 2.9.2 voodoo. I booted phone.

After this I flashed the EC10 Kernel from Adrynalyn and his Kernel_Update.zip that had the undervolt settings.

Other than that I have done nothing so this setup is pretty clean and reproducing the same issue.

So the "Menu button unlock" is a "feature" of the 5 lock mod put there intentionally by sbrissen. The other locks don't have this freature.

My setup used to unlock with the menu key...not sure when it changed but menu key has no effect on any lockscreen...maybe a theme does this.

Can I root without installing Froyo?

First I have to admit that I don't read this forum as much as I should. Been kind of busy of late. But I do want to improve my Fascinate. Had it since day one of release and I'm happy with it overall. Battery life has gotten worse of late. (No idea why.) Also my phone does not scroll nicely. It's more hurky-jerky. From what I've read, rooting and going with a superclean rom would help this?

I'd like to install Froyo but there are things I don't want to risk losing. One thing is tethering. The ability to get online in a pinch has saved my butt a few times. Did I read something about VZ putting a tethering monitor in Froyo so they can charge me for using PDAnet? Also are there apps that will allow me to create the mobile hotspot from my phone without incurring those BS charges from VZ?

Can anyone report any surprises after installing Froyo? Losing any functionality after installing?

Well congratulations on taking the first step toward improving your Fascinate. To answer your question in the title of the thread, yes you can root without installing Froyo. But it seems like you may not want to do that and want to upgrade to Froyo, but have some concerns. That's only natural. There is allegedly something in the EB01 build that may be able to track your tethering. Superclean 2.9.2 includes a kernel with "dummy tethering" that may be a workaround for that monitoring, but it is still "use at your own risk." That being said, several people have reported tethering with superclean without being charged. There is just no guarantee you won't get charged. There were still some residual bugs from the leaked EB01 build, but every successive build of superclean has gotten better and better. Superclean 2.9.2 is extremely stable and bug free.

I did not realize that. I know I have seen the thread on the 5 lock mod but I never picked up on this or I read it and did not understand it that way.

Either way thanks for pointing this out. ;)

Ok if its added in why is it it only works on the asop and rotary lock screens

and can it be removed because thats really dumb and when I check the time i unlock my phone. Nevermind i found it

You guys just reminded me of Special Agent Johnson and Special Agent Johnson in Die Hard. :D

So I guess it doesn't matter as I have other apps to listen to Shoutcast, but I use Winamp every day mainly due to the free Wifi sync/transfer.

Did anyone else loose Google navigation when installing the voodoo kernal that is listed on the first page of this forum? I lost navigation and could not re-download it from the market. After flashing back to a different kernal, navigation reappeared. Strange.

Sent from my Froyo Fascinate using Tapatalk.

Yeah i had that happen to me, except i didn't realize it until i read this post. I remember going through my apps and seeing Google Nav, and then thinking, "hey i dont remember seeing that last time i scrolled through my apps". and also the apps were not in the same order. A lot of funky stuff has been happening since I converted to the new undervolted kernel.

+1 on what da shark says.....

I've tethered on my BB and on my fascinate, albeit I'm not DLing large files. Usually just logging into my home systems from my netbook. I DARE big red to try and charge me. They'll wish they had died and gone to a very, very warm place (not Miami) when I'm through with them :)

SC 2.9 ROM Alarm Clock Weridness...

Running SC 2.9 and since I installed it something odd with the alarm clock is happening. I had created an alarm for 6:00 AM M-F. But when I disable it (not delete it) it would still go off. So I deleted it completely but it still goes off. In fact with no alarm defined, you can see the alarm symbol in the notification bar at the top and the next day at 6:00 AM, it goes off.

Iv'e rebooted but no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Going from EB01 to Superclean 2.9.2

I know there has been many pages/threads regarding this but I have been using the "search" both here and xda. A lot of reading. When going to the superclean threads they are so long with so many different situations and I'm just not finding a clear anwer.

I currently have EB01 and just downloaded superclean 2.9.2 (super_frankenclean_2.9.2v_CWMFIX) but I don't want to screw it up.

Can you give me a step by step?

Currently have Ti-backup but from the reading I've done it seems to not be a good idea.

Thanks for your help.

Jeff
