Hi, I hope someone can help and I apologize if this has been answered before. I have recently rooted my Rezound and was thinking of trying a rom out. My question is how do I return to the way it is now if I don't like it. I am currently running the global leak.

Thanks,
Bryon

Very wise.

Do you know how to go to your recovery? You'll need to be running Amon-Ra (at least version 3.15 I think)

So, go into recovery and find the option that says "backup /restore" select it and then select nand backup. Let it run, it takes like 10 minutes or more. Once you're done you have made a nandroid backup... Congratulations!

Now after you've done all you're romming and you decide you don't like it or whatever the reason, you want to go back. Go back to recovery and go back to backup/restore. This time restore. You'll have to dig down a few menus to find the file and they're named by date and time (in zulu) the backup was created.

You can make multiple backups but the files are pretty large so I only keep one or two on there at a time.

I forgot to mention that if you're s-on you'll have to reflash the kernel from the original rom that you are trying to get back to.

Hi Wanda, thank you for the response. I have been into recovery and have Amon-Ra in but i think it is ver. 3.14. Can I just flash the newest one over top of that the way i put it on in the first place thru fastboot? And you mentioned flashing a kernel when going back to original from nandroid, is that risky as I have heard that is an area that can mess things up? Is it possible when going back from rom to re flash the RUU like I did to get to the global leak. All this scares me a little.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help this noob as I am very familiar with PC's, I know nothing about android. I am in the process now of learning with the help of all you good people on here.

Thanks,
Bryon

You can flash the latest version of Amon-Ra through ADB or fastboot. Let me put it this way, do whichever is easier for you. Do you remember how you got Amon-Ra on there in the first place? Good, then just do that again but with the latest version (which I'm pretty sure is 3.15) It will just overwrite you're old version but shouldn't harm anything in the process.

As far as flashing the kernels, it's not really that dangerous. Worst case scenario you flash the wrong kernel or a bad kernel and it doesn't boot (probably stuck at the HTC white screen). What you'll have to do then is just get the bad kernel off your SD card (having a spare SD card reader you can plug to your computer so you can get it off, put the new one on, and then re-insert into the phone makes it pretty easy) put the new kernel on and try again.

Where you can really screw yourself is flashing radios (you have to be S-Off to do it). It's not something thats overly difficult but if you put the wrong radio on there it can be goodbye Rezound.

You could go back to the old kernel by flashing the RUU but thats like using a sledgehammer when all you need is little tappity-tap.

Thanks again for all your advice. I think I will give it a shot this weekend. Might try the one you were talking about in another post viperez. I have made a backup of everything with Titanium backup so I am hoping that will save me from re setting the phone up all over like previous resets have left me doing.

No problem, happy to help.

Just a quick word on titanium, it will only restore your apps with or without their associated data. It's up to you. Some people restore with data (I do for my important apps) and some I don't cause its nice to start fresh. But what Titanium won't do is put them back in place on your home screens. You'll still have to go through and put your widgets and folders back where you want them.

I have never tried a rom on the rezound ( it was just so easy on the Dinc in comparison) but I hadn't heard about reinstalling the kernel.

I had the white screen boot failure recently and was told to reflash the kernel. I was on the global RUU, and I was told to flash the boot.img through adb. Well that never worked for me so I had to relock, run the RUU again, and then unlock and reinstall Amonra and reroot. It was a PIA. Any advice on how to get the stock kernel on the SD card? Is it a PH98IMG.zip? And is the global kernel floating around somewhere?

Hoping someone out there can still help me. I know lots of you moved on. My issue is also returning to the custom rom I am rooted also. My problem is when I go into recovery and look for my nandroid back up I have two in there. When I try to restore either one it says no files attached. What happened to them. First issue, second issue I also did a titanium back up after a few wipes my back up is no longer there. The only apps its recalling are the ones associated with the new rom. How do I go back like 3 installs ago. Wow I'm a mess

I think I found the stock global kernel here. [RUU GLOBAL ROM] ICS-Global-Plus-v1.4 Lime Version 4.03.605.2 710RD 9/26/12 - xda-developers
You have to scroll down some to find it.
Someone please correct me if this is incorrect.

Good Morning to all,

Bserey, the file you want is a RUU yes but the one you have linked is not an offical RUU from Verizon. The reason for this is that verizon has not released the global update yet for the Rezound.... That being said you can still use it as many are already. If you want the offical release here is the link Click Here

Eleni, It sounds like your nandroid backups failed. Most likly due to limited space available. This is what I see most of the time when that happens. Unfortunately they are lost. As for your Titianum Backup's it sounds like you might have it over writing the lastest backup Now please do take that as gospel as I do not know your settings but if you check using a file explorer program (like es file explorer) and they are not there then I would have to sermize what i have said as being true.

Thanks Major payne,
In my nandroid back up folder on the external sd card are 5 files. 4 with .img boot.img, cache.img data.img and system.img The other says nandroidmd5 Not sure if that is the complete backup, as far as titanium i think all is lost and i
have to set up all my apps again. I just wish I would have moved the backup to the external and not the internal. Oh well I learned.

Good morning to you too

Hi Major Payne,
I am currently running the Global leak and was looking for the kernel for that if i needed to go back from a rom i intend to flash because earlier in this thread Wanda had directed me that to go back I would need to restore my nandroid backup I made and then flash the kernel for the global leak I was running. The link I put up in my last post was what I had found when I searched around for such kernel. I was wondering if that was the correct file or not, it appears they have the link to the kernel down a ways in that post for people who are s-on to flash. Also it seems that 318sugarhill was also looking for that file.

If i recall correctly the RUU should flash it all. but have the kernal handy just in case

Sorry guys feel like I've been neglecting the forums...works been krazy.

Yep, your right Major, the RUU will have the kernel all packages up. It's not uncommon when you run an RUU for it to wipe your internal storage AND the internal SD memory as well so make a copy of everything on it and drag it to your computer for safe keeping.

Bserey: the kernel for each particular rom is usually packaged inside the downloaded zip file. What you can do is download the rom to your computer, copy the zip to your sd for flashing purposes. Then back on your computer you can open the zip and find the boot.img file. Put it somewhere on your computer where you can get to it in the same manner as when you used ADB and the command prompt to fast boot flash Amon Ra to your phone. So after you've restored your rom while still in Recovery dont reboot yet but instead go to developers menu and find the option to reboot into fastboot. You can then plug into your computer and then use ADB and the command prompt to fast boot flash the old kernel back. Seems like a lot of steps but its not overly difficult. Does any of that make sense?

Yes it does make sense. I have come across the boot.img file before, just never knew what it was. Thanks.

I am happy to report that everything worked out and I am now running ViperRez 1.03. Wanda i would like to thank you for your help with my noob questions as I don't think I would have tried it without them. My thoughts now are why did I not do this sooner..

That is always the thoughts from everyone who moves for the defualt to a stable build

I have not had a chance to try recorded videos yet but I do know that music with the beats earbuds is superior to what it was before. There was a setting that i checked that had to do with a sony sound enhancer that seemed to boost my volume level.

I should have been more clear, videos I recorded with the viperrez camera were almost inaudible, but the volume on videos recorded with the stock camera sounded fine on the viperrez player.

Give it a try, hopefully it works well for you.
