I was just wondering if I can be rooted to do this? I'm running hydrorom and xionia. Also, will this get rid of all my contacts?

Actually you need to be rooted to revert back to ZVD. But check the stickies, and look for the automated root tool that is for rooting ZVD & ZVH.
ALSO you could just flash the ZVD UPDATE. To revert back. You need to flash the update once, boot into android, then boot back into recovery and flash it a second time to get the radio's to match.

Wouldn't I still be running zvh if I did that?
The ZVD update from Sprint only runs to full completion on stock recovery.

You can flash it in xionia, after turning of signature verification, but it will not flash the modem. After you flash in xionia and boot for the first time, stock recovery will be installed. Then if you flash the update a 2nd time, you'll not only have the ZVD ROM, but the ZVD modem as well.

If your purpose is only to go back to ZVD so you can go to rooted ZVJ, then you don't need to worry about the modem being ZVD. Your ROM will still boot, you just won't have any data, until you get ZVJ installed (ZVJ ROM/ZVJ Modem)

Alternatively, you could just install stock recovery from the beginning, then you could flash the ZVD update.zip once and everything would be installed in one shot.

Awesome thanks for the help. I am actually just reverting to check out the ics roms. Also, if I revert to zvd, will it be rooted or do I have to re-root/install recovery?

rolling back to ZVD is pretty straight forward... there are several guides to help you on your way...

The basic gist is that you have to have a stock recovery when you do this... I'd make backups of your device using Titanium... as well as to have a nandroid... just in case you ever want to go back...

Rooting ZVD is pretty straight forward - though none of the "stock" based roms are still being developed anymore... and there are quirks with the cm7 install's... and cm9 installs also have quirks...
