Review, battery life

The Verge and at least two other sites have said the G4 lasts at least a full day. Pretty sure I'm getting a G4, but I'd like to see some comprehensive battery tests/reviews instead of articles just citing Phone Arena's preliminary results.

Seriously from the words of Aaron Rodgers, RELAX! :)

It's a phone that's not even out, why not try it out for yourselves instead of stressing over what others think.

Is this how you buy cars? One would test drive it first.

When it comes to battery life, I think the G4 will be like the S6 in that depending on lollipop issues and what carrier is used for testing you will find mixed results from lasts all day to you'll have to charge midday. Let's also not forget that both Sprint and Verizon will no longer have two radios in them and for some, users will be forced to use VoLTE if they want both data and voice at the same time, which is also a huge battery drain.

So if the Korean test phones are on AT&T in the review you are reading, don't always expect your results to be the same as if on final software with T-Mobile and other carriers as they have their own battery draining software added (wifi calling) or network issues that could drain your battery differently.

My best advice if you want the G4 is to ignore the reviews about battery life and try out the phone for the full return period. I luckily did just that with the S6 and get as much as 7 hours of SoT with 16 hours of standby in normal use on AT&T. This is drastically better than my m8 and just think, I almost didn't try this phone based on Andrew's preliminary testing for his review. So forget reviews and just try it yourself and see if it is right for you.

In my opinion, one should neither accept nor ignore reviews and reports. Get as much information as you can, from as many sources as you can, and when the time comes, make an informed decision. And there's certainly nothing wrong with speculating in the meantime. It's a hot new item, and it's fun to talk about it.

Recombu didn't note any problems:
"Battery life is respectable too, with the removable 3000mAh cell comfortably lasting into a second day’s use, although you’ll likely need to charge it up again before lunch on that second day – or swap out the cell for another which isn’t an option on any of the G4’s obvious rivals."

I trust these guys also! Always great reviews.

Posted on my Moto X that is prob being charged as we speak...

Anyone have ideas why tmobile version of the g4 has a 2900mAh battery and the Korean model has a 3000mAh battery?

For the same reason that Korean phones have a TV tuner and American models don't. They are not truly the same phone. I'll almost bet big money that on AT&T the G4 also won't have Qi charging like the rest of the G4 phones in America and beyond.

They'll probably all be 3000 mAh. I think it was just some of the review models LG had on hand at the event that have the 2900 mAh.

None of the G4 models have wireless charging built in. It's not like the G3 last year.

None of the US G3 had built in wireless. It was an after purchase item that AT&T sold.

That's what I think too.I usually go though a few battery cycles on my phones before I get too concerned with battery life.:)

I am inclined to agree. Going to wait for the phone to be in my hand before judging the battery.

I really hope this isn't true. Better battery life than the S6 is the main reason I've been limping along with my m7. That's really the main reason I would accept the larger form factor.

How I feel exactly. I also have a M7.

Exactly. Review came out with a 9.2... Samsheep bitched and moaned, and they deflated it to a 9.

Every preliminary comment from those who have had their hands on the G4 have said that it gets better battery life than the G3 and the S6. Also, this is still with pre-release software which can and will be tweaked and updated prior to the phone's wide-release. PA just has dozens of click-bait articles on every conceivable aspect of a new phone. Long story short, S6 owners have to recharge at least once throughout the day (even Phil said so); G4 will last the day and still have the option of replacing the battery. G4 wins.

Some people have different experience with the S6 battery life. I've seen screenshots of S6's with 5+ SOT and 15+hrs of use. Just because Phil "says so" doesn't mean its true for everyone..

wait for gsmarena battery test.

Why would you? I don't trust their battery tests just as much as I don't PA. Both can be taken with a grain of salt because that's not real world use you won't use your phone in that manner and there's also so many more factors that play apart in a phones battery that real world use is the best test.

I love watching reviews on YouTube but that's all it is at the end. I have no problems buying/trying it out for myself, of course it helps that I make money off it. LOL One of the fastest I've ever sold was the S4, I was done with it after 15-20 days.

Exactly! My S6 edge took 2-3 battery cycles.

How is a "real world use" test any better? A great example is Andrew's review of the S6. I get double the SoT with almost double the standby times that he got.

As I said in my last reply, depending on what carrier it is tested on and along with any lollipop issues the reviewer may have, battery life can be drastically different then what is stated in a review even with real world use testing.

Engadget's review is out. Interestingly, they report longer battery life than the S6 in their video-loop test, which is the reverse of a couple of the other reviews out there. There are definitely too many factors involved in battery life to hang your hat on any one report. It is nice to get a wide spectrum of experiences though.

Well that's why you provide caveats saying how long you've used it, what carrier you're on, if you're on pre-releaese software, and that it will differ depending on what carrier the consumer is on. Or the same person or other people can review the same phone on a different carrier. Simple.

Exactly! Don't draw conclusions from reviews of pre-release gear. And also consider the source.
