Review unit!

My Note 5 also has a 5.7" screen and a 3,000 mAh battery so a screen on time of around 4.5-5 hours sounds about right.

And it also has a lot more processes running in the background compared to stock android. So theoretically the essential should be even better.

The snapdragon 835 is also built on a smaller process and is much more efficient than previous versions.

On a side note.. after watching a ton of video's about the essential I've come to develop a pet peave.... and I noticed this about a lot of android phone reviews and thought video's. When the reviewer has an apple watch on... they tend to kinda down talk the essential or whatever other phone.

My other nag is all the people ******** about this phone costing $699. Now granted... 699 isn't exactly cheap but at the same time when you have iphones costing upwards of $900 and now the note 8 costing almost $1,000 I don't see how you can really complain about this phone costing $700. I also really can't stand the constant ******** about no waterproofing. I've had probably 50 different smartphones in the past 10+ years going back to the windows mobile days and I've never lost a single one to water damage. WTF are you people doing with your phones that you need water proofing so badly? (I fight with my wife about this as well.. she always bitches when phones aren't water proof yet she's lost one to water damage either).

Anyway... just ranting because I'm tired of waiting for the phone. Also.. where are all the cases at? Even the Mi Mix had a few cases available... not many, but a few.

I love the Essential phone. The only question I have is how much Essential will be able to improve the camera with software updates and how long that will take. The pricing is fine. The software is just immature.

I hear ya! I've noticed that in a lot of reviews on any Android phone. If the reviewer wears an Apple Watch then they're most likely going to feel a bit lackluster about it. Of course they will, their platform of choice is Apple/iOS.

And I'm in the same waterproof boat as you. I've been using cellphones in some form or fashion since 1998. Which included 7 haze filled years in college/law school. I've lost a grand total of ZERO to water damage. Is it nice to have? Sure. But why is it essential that a phone has water resistance? I don't get it. My wife has an S7 edge. She knows it has water resistance. But she still avoids water. Why? Because water damage isn't covered under the warranty!

I'm just ready for this phone. Assuming we get some cheap cases at some point in the very near future.

I am outdoors allot during the weekends. My sons and I go hiking, fishing, off roading and exploring. I crossed creeks and streams and fallen several times through the years. Usually i either get some huge monstrosity of a waterproof case to protect my phones or put them in a plastic bag in my pocket. But some phones like my S8+ or iphone 7+ i don't have to do that. It makes it easier to grab my phone to take a pic. Sometimes the situation allows you only a second to snap that pic of a deer, eagle or other form a nature.
I love that I could cross a stream without having to worry about getting my phone wet.

Then there is the chance that I am out hiking and it is warm and I just want to cool off so i just jump right in!

I agree. I've lost 4 phones due to water damage. I work construction and sometimes things just happen. For me water resistance is definitely a selling point.
