Reviews of the S4 and how it effects your opinion of the One

The only thing most of the reviews said that the One beat the S4 in was Low Light Camera performance and much emphasis on Design (Aluminum)...thats really about it
When it comes to Software, I believe the S4 does take the cake, though features may be gimmicky, the software is much more easier to use, and offers much more features

The only plus I personally would give to the One is the Design and the Speakers...everything else goes to the S4
CNETs and AC's review was the most fair

All the gimmicky S4 will be available as soon as phone gets in developers hands just like smart stay etc last year. Whereas there are no harware developers who can make crappy looking S4 look premium. Removable battery and ad card are what fanboys use to make them feel better. I have never purchased an extra battery, sometimes when you're in them middle of something and the battery goes low, its much easier to simply plug in a usb than turning it off to replace the battery and start over, same goes for sd card.

As for the battery... we need to be pushing them to improve battery life, not removable sucky batteries. That is a bandaid and we want a cure. Batteries should last weeks, not hours, and some of the new tech in that field has the potential to do so... but as long as we tell them we want weak removable batteries, the adoption rate of new the tech will be slow.

I used to read CNET for the comic relief now I don't even waste my time - they are so biased and uniformed.

The GS4 and the ONE use the exact... let me repeat that... THE EXACT same processor (300 krait SD pro) while the GS4 is clocked at 1.9 whereas the ONE is clocked at 1.7; however, (1) truthfully a user cannot tell the difference and (2) One can root and overclock either device to which ever clock speed them feel like

I used to read Cnet reviews, but after what's come out about them this year I've stopped taking them seriously. Wonder how much commercial time on CBS will get you favorable reviews?

Both for their excellent build and signal strength! Which Samsung lacks in both!

You obviously never had the Thunderbolt...lol! The only phone I've had with worse signal strength was the iPhone 3G. The iPhone 4 and Thunderbolt were probably a tie. I can't speak for the Galaxy S4, but the Note 2 has the best signal strength I've seen since my BlackBerry days (laugh at them all you want, but signal was NOT on the list of problems for BBs).

BTW, overall I liked the Thunderbolt and didn't have any other trouble with it. And I'm not going to compare the One and the GS4 directly because I have not used either one...yet...

I went with the GNex and loved it, still do. Not for the so-so camera, or plastic build, or Amoled screen, but for the vanilla Android experience. I'm under impressed with the skins from Sammie and HTC, since Android already does that.

So the only review I'm waiting for is the one for the new Nexus.

I really disagree about the S4 software being better. More does not mean better. Do you want 1,000 pennies or one nice crisp $100 bill. 1,000 is more than 1. I think TochWiz is incredibly ugly. I'd rather have Sense, with its more attractive design and less features, but features I'll actually use, then the (IMO) ugly TouchWiz UI and its boat full of features I don't need or want.

The software is entirely a subjective matter between these two phones. Neither one has huge glaring bugs or usability issues that clearly put it behind the other or any one big killer feature that everyone will use to put one clearly ahead of the other.

Just finished the Anandtech One review. That was intense.

I dont think the gs4 will get gold

You're dillusional IMO. The One will fade to black much sooner than later while the S4 will pretty much rule the smartphone world for quite a while.

I don't read "professional" mobile reviews no more than I read movie reviews from "experts." Or anything of the like. I trust my own judgment enough to decide what is right for me. Other than reading about technical specifications, no one else can tell me what will feel right to me. I have to make that determination for myself.
How many times have you heard about a movie that critics soundly panned, yet you enjoyed it? Exactly.
When there is more than one item on the market and I have to make a choice, part of the fun is exploring those items one by one.
Another man's opinion is just that: another opinion. It holds no more weight than my own.
Ultimately my purchasing decision will solely depend on how many of my needs and wants boxes are checked. At that point I'll most likely feel good about my purchase. Noone else's opinion can justify that decision for me. Only my research and intuition can do that. If I have to look to others for approval of the decisions I've made, I have to wonder if I actually have a good sense of my own values.
Forums are valuable, though, because I'm able to gain consensus on items such as possible bugs, ideas about periphery equipment, information on how-to's, etc., and simply a place to find comradery.

Through sales perhaps. Bestseller phones doesn't mean best phone. That applies to all smart phones not just androids

Best phone of 2012 - Nexus 4. Best selling phone of 2012 - Galaxy S3. Hmm.... recent history indicates you're right.

And i care why, does not make it the best smartphone made, just that more sheep will herd to the name.i would never judge my buying decision on how many units it sold otherwise i would just buy an iphone, when a product grows to successful it hurts the consumer who wants more innovation,

If quite a while is 3 months, or the average time a top phone exists, then perhaps.

I wouldn't say to make themselves feel better... More like that's a feature that they care about. I agree with you in the sense that it's easier to plug in.. For you or me. Some people the extra battery can be way easier because they may not be near chargers as much. You never know..

I'm not saying that either side is wrong. I have a SD card but don't use it much and the battery thing is Meh for me because I am usually always near a charger somehow or someway but you can't bash some people for liking / wanting that just because it doesn't work for YOU... You aren't everyone.

At the end of the day they are both good phones and I can see them doing well. I myself am torn between the two and still unsure which one I want to buy.

Hey, while these conversations get ugly, at least one constant exists.

We don't use Blackberries.

No you have the S3S

I hear the lag on the S4 is pretty great also.

There isn't any lag, i played with the s4 for about an hour and is a lag free experience. Even snappier than the s3.

It most certainly is opinion. While the S4 may be the most functional phone for how you use a phone it wouldn't be for me.
Here is how your positives of that make the S4 better for your use don't apply to me at all:
1. Marginally faster processor. Will not be noticeable in real world use.
2. More features. Most of which will never be used after the first couple days. While not a negative, certainly not a positive either. Quality, not quantity. I'll take Zoes, Highlight videos, and blink feed that I like and use over S-Health, Air View, the air gestures S-Voice, S-Translate, and all the other S4 features that I won't use.
3. In the past 10 years I have never once purchased an extra battery for my phone. So while a feature to some, I truthfully do not care.
4. Bigger screen. I can barely use my One one handed. The width of the S4 would make this more difficult. For me one handed use is a bigger feature than screen size.
5. Better camera in great light. Okay, most of my photos are in my poorly lit apartment of my 1 year old daughter. The One's superior low light and indoor camera make it the better camera for me
6. 4.1 vs. 4.2. What exactly are we missing? Both the phones are so heavily customized that none of the 4.2 features even matter.
7. I personally prefer swype to swiftkey. Doesn't make either of us wrong. I was using Swype on the Note I had before this.
8. I have never needed more than 32 GB (Note was 16 with a 16 SD card). So since the base One is 32 GB, no issues for me.
So for me the One wins in terms of functionality.

I'm not saying your opinions are wrong, just your statement that it is an objective fact that the S4 is more functional. All your points may certainly be valid for you and make the S4 the better phone for you, but that does not make it objectively better. I wouldn't say either phone is objectively better than the other. It is a matter of what matters to each individual.

Because YOU CHOOSE NOT TO use something doesn't make it less functional, just means you aren't taking advantage of your phone fully

I'm not in the market for a phone now, so I'll probably wait for the S5 / HTC TWO (that's an awkward name--how will they follow up?) and whatever else comes in the next generation. But were I in the market I think I'd choose the Samsung for the battery and SD card. As nice as the HTC feels, I just feel a lot more comfortable with the ability to add a bunch of storage and replace the battery when needed. I don't have to use my screen outside very often, and either works just fine indoors. When I listen to music on my phone it's with headphones, and I don't use the speaker phone enough to care that much about the htc's speakers.

And all the pissing and moaning about the Galaxy's build quality is just stupid. If you don't like plastic, that's fine, but build quality isn't the same thing. Samsung phones are assembled meticulously, everything fits and works. THAT's build quality. I don't recall reading any posts about ill-fitting speaker covers, power buttons that don't work correctly, or any other glitches. I've seen a number of those posts about the ONE. I'm sure htc will get them under control as production moves forward, but build quality isn't about materials, it's about assembly quality, and Samsung does it as well as anyone in the world.

Well said, I've been making the same build quality argument for a while now.
