Rezound vs Galaxy Nexus

I love the Rezound, took my Nexus back a few days ago. But what are the chances that I can get a Rezound with actual "red" buttons, I hate this pink crap. Going to try and return my phone tomorrow for a new one. They have to swap them right until I get a correct one? They cant just say oh well its suppose to be pink when the display phone is red? I just cant carry a pink phone around, especially a $600 phone. Any ideas?

Say it's defective and you want another.

I just can't take it anymore. Virtually every GN poster says they love their phone, even though they're having some problem, usually fundamental to normal phone operation. Then down play it as not being an issue to them to justify why they picked the GN. It will get updates, it will get patches,it will... It will... Then often in some obtuse way hint that they may, just might, perhaps if the stars line up just so, exchange it for something, usually the Rezound. Reading through this thread it's obvious which device is, I don't want to say better, but that's the only way to say it. It works. It's one thing if there is a difference. Differences are subjective and each person will have a preference, but to out right knowingly pick something that has flaws just doesn't make sense. In the beginning it was like maybe this is isolated or not everyone is affected, but post after post says this is not the case. Some very basic things aren't working. I don't know if it's ego driven to stick with something knowing you're going to have problems, or it's not going to work well, or what. I will no longer be a witness to silliness. It seems the vs. question has been more than answered.

You mad bro? I love my nexus. It has some things that could be better but its the first 4.0 phone. People should know it won't be perfect. But it will see fixes and updates faster than anything on Verizon guaranteed. Rezound is cool but coming from the evo 3d its the same sense with more Hp and battery life was worse for me.

I don't have reception issues. If I did, I would return it. Not everyone has issues.

I swear a lot of Galaxy Nexus owners do sound an awful lot like iPhone users, making excuses for less than stellar hardware. It's true not all GN owners have signal issues, but it is also true that many do. For me, every single GN has issues. I'll name just a few. Mediocre camera. No removable storage. Poor battery life (especially compared to the Rezound with 2750 mAh extended battery). Pentile SAMOLED. Lack of hardware buttons. Loss of screen space due to software buttons. Cheap, plasticky build. Please, show me a Galaxy Nexus without those issues.

I know, I know, you don't care about a crappy camera that doesn't focus well, you always carry a SLR. You use cloud storage and don't care about non removable storage. You don't mind poor battery life since you are always somewhere to plug in. You prefer the cartoonish, over saturated look of SAMOLED displays and lack of true whites doesn't bother you. You prefer to go through software menus as opposed to having a hardware search button to launch voice commands.

Why are many GN owners unable to see any flaws in their phone? No room for improvement really? Tell me with a straight face you wouldn't have preferred the GN have a better camera, removable storage, rgb stripe SAMOLED, and better battery life. The truth is your primary concern was for vanilla ICS, and you either didn't realize that you would be able to have the same software on superior devices soon, or you couldn't wait for it, so you justify your purchase by pretending your phone doesn't have issues. You realize most people here in the Rezound forum originally wanted a GN too (or bought a GN first), but found that the Rezound was a better device for us for the above mentioned reasons.

Though I love my Rezound, I am able to see some things that I would like to see improved. I would prefer it had a gorilla glass screen that didn't wash out as much in direct sunlight. I would prefer it come from the factory without added software, or at least that I were able to remove it without rooting. I wish there were docks available that would work with the Rezound with extended battery and case together. I wish I didn't have to use an MHL adapter to connect it to my TV. See, I am not a blind zealot for the Rezound. It is the best phone I have owned so far though, and I have no regrets with my purchase.

I wanted vanilla ICS you are correct.
I didn't want to deal with having a hard time outdoors reading my device.
I didn't want to deal with sd card mounting issues/ errors every now and then.
I didn't want the same interface I had two years ago.

I get 23 hrs (8 sleeping :) ) of battery with the extended.
I don't mind the feel of the device.
YES my screen was unresponsive so I had to get it replaced today.
But I went through five DINCS as well before CS finally gave me a new battery...

I am just busting on you, because like you I made a decision on what my needs were.
For people to complain that the My verizon app and backup assistant are bloatware and whine about it is too extreme, even for me.
Heck today three of us were at the store and a fourth in line.

One had a 4g white iphone with network issues.
I had my Nexus with the screen not responding to gestures
A third had issues with his Rezound (I don't think he knew how to use it)
A fourth needed a battery for the Cosmos? basic phone.

We have choices. Not one device that is perfect but different ones that do different things.

At least we aren't sheep being steered towards one device and we aren't outside for days waiting for a device sleeping on the sidewalks :)

But all of the issues you named are opinionated. I don't need removable storage. 32GB is enough for me. I stream my music and store some for offline listening. Camera is great coming from my evo 3d's crappy camera. Battery life stock vs. Stock is better on this phone then my rezound. We all know sense's track record which is why you probably mentioned the 2750 mah. Some things can definitely be improved though. No phone is perfect. I will say that. You are also right in saying I preferred stock ics. But I have my reasons. One being when I had the rezound coming from a evo 4g then a evo 3d it didn't even feel like a new phone. Same sense stuff I grew tired of. Truthfully, you sound like more of a rezound fanboi attacking people for liking their gn. Lol there are things that are far from perfect on the rezound but hey I'm not going to attack u for having different taste. Different strokes for different folks.

Isn't the whole point to make a purchase you don't regret? If so, then I did just fine by buying the Nexus. I don't like how thick the Rezound is, I don't like sense, and I don't like hardware buttons. The whole hardware buttons thing was part of my reason for getting the Nexus. I have no issues with the camera, but do I wish it was better? Of course, the camera quality of an iPhone 4s would have been nice, but the Rezound doesn't have that either. I didn't want expandable storage either. To me, it's a PITA to manage both the internal and external storage, just give me one or the other so all apps put everything in the same place. My battery life is great, but that may just be because there's no 4G in my area yet. I can't even tell the screen is pentile which is more than I can say for my old D3, but I would have preferred a Samoled plus. Unfortunately they don't have one of those in 720p yet. Be mean I'm pretty sure most people at this forum would like a better everything in their phone so the argument seems pointless to me. Just pick what works best for you.

The Galaxy Nexus is not for everyone. That's for sure! You don't feel like it's lived up to it's hype. I can understand that. My first week, I thought I might have to let it go because of battery life and the speaker volume. It would have been a bummer because I was looking forward for the GN. Fortunately, I have successfully modded my phone to where neither one is an issue.

Your forgetting one key fact about this phone. It is a developers phone. Made with the intention, that developers would continue to develop and improve upon the phone. It's a niche market phone.

A lot of the features of ice cream sandwich came from the developing community. For those of us that are more tech inclined, we enjoy either directly developing or being part of the test market. There are features that are not as important to some as to others. We would all love perfection, but nothings perfect.

The camera on the GN is better than my droid x. The iphone by all accounts has the best camera on a phone. I'm not likely to develop pictures from any phone. It's not an issue for me. The GN's camera will capture a moment , which I would most likely share on the web. A 3. mega pixel camera is sufficient for that purpose.

Prior to purchasing the phone, I thought the lack of an SD card would be an issue. I realized I had 40 gigs combined storage on my droid x and less than half of it full. The only times, I even came close to half was because I kept multiple back ups that I didn't need, utube videos that I didn't bother to delete, and experimental roms that I wasn't using. Does someone like me need more than 32 gigs in addition to cloud storage?? Not likely.

Because of the mods that I was able to get from the developers community like an updated radio and the ability to flash kernels, my phone speaker volume surpasses my droid x and rivals my old blackberry. Incidentally, this is not possible on a phone with a locked bootloader. The couple of roms that I have tried have already extended stock ice cream sandwich.

Here is an example: The company that produced the swype keyboard app has been unable to release a version that was compatible with ICS. A developer has already solved the issue and has distributed a version that not only works, but it's better than the original. It's only been a little over two weeks since it's release in the US!

That is a major part of the trade off. The developers can address any software issues and improve any hardware issues, where software can make a difference. They can release improvements quicker since they don't have to go up the chain of command for not only Google, but verizon as well. Not to mention some of the developers will take request and implement them for us. I don't personally know anyone at Google or Verizon who will do that.

The GN is renovated but built to be customized with blue prints and regular updated supplies from the original architect. The other phones are move-in ready with more limited customization options. People didn't conspire to lie collectively. Each one has a customer who will love what it has to offer!

well put Juststef.... im tired of having this discussion with so many people...

if you like things set up and. expect HTC or Motorola, when discussing the razor, to set it up to your liking than go with their phones... every phone is made for a different group of people and there's no one perfect phone for everyone...

Actually, according to several tests and reviews, the Rezound has a better camera than the iPhone 4S.
And the Rezound has been shown to have longer battery life than the GN. But when it comes down to it, get what you like, and enjoy it.

It isnt being advertised that way.

Are you certain you will feel that way a year from now? You better be....because you are trapped into that 32 gigs forever.

(incidentally...why are they even offering a 16 gig version? Every single person I know who is buying a GN is buying a 32 gig version. Gee...I wonder why that is lol)

I guess it was really fortunate for me that HTC allowed me to unlock mine. My phone is unlocked and rooted.

You can't flash kernels on a htc unlocked device. Only a truly unlocked bootloader can do that.

From what I understand you use the fastboot menu in the bootloader to flash the kernel. The kernel I linked is for an OC'd (1.83ghz) kernel with additional changes.

I think most people forget that Gingerbread is very polished (stable) at this point. There's not much that can be improved. The Rezound is a very nice piece of hardware running a polished o/s.

ICS on the otherhand, is brand new & for the most part, it's untested. It will get updated & you can bet all the bugs will be worked out. Don't believe me, go to the developer forums over at Rootzwiki and see for yourself. 2 weeks after release, there are atleast a dozen or so roms available to flash. Each developer has already improved on ICS. These roms are fast, stable & lag free.

My only concern is the low signal level. The people I have spoken to are confident it can be fixed via software, but we won't know until it's addressed.

I have no reason to flash kernels though...my phone already benches better than the GN and has better battery life. And having flashed many kernels on my Droid 1, I can say it was mostly a waste of time. The kernels provided some benefits with severe drawbacks. The only reason I did it at all was so I could overclock.

EDIT - According to XDA, yes, you can flash Kernels on the Rezound - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372131&page=5 -

I've seen pictures from both. The iPhone 4s has the best camera out of any smartphone I've seen as much as I hate to say it. I've never heard or seen anyone say that the pictures from a Rezound are better before now.
