Rezound vs Galaxy Nexus

I think the latest poll results in the Nexus forum show 55% experiencing signal issues. When I owned it, signal issues sucked the life out of my battery and I also did have garbled phone calls. Who knows if an OTA can fix this. You might want to wait till Jan 15th which is the return date for those who purchased during the holidays. You would think if a fix is in the works they would do everything they can to get it out by then or at least publicly recognize the problem. They have not done the latter. They may be working on it but just not admitting it ATM.

The RAZR was out, just testing for the heck of it..
The "signal issue", does it apply to voice and data or just data?
If those scores are accurate then the rezound is twice add fast.. Can that really be tweaked out with software?
The Rezound is not really twice as fast IMO...it just gets much better reception. I am guessing if you put both phones right next to the cell tower they would get similar speeds. (And um...those Rezound figures are conservative btw...I have seen people on here get 29mb download speeds on a Rezound, and I have tested 25mb on my own phone already).

The signal issue is for 4G from what I am hearing. I dont think normal cell reception is affected much.

In my case mainly data was the problem. Total data loss on a regular basis. Phone calls weren't a problem much, I did have some clarity issues and a few dropped calls, but data was the main issue.

I've seen 20 to 25+ Mbps down and 10 to 15+ Mbps up regularly. Considering the GN didn't even have 4g data in the same location (my house) as my Rezound is close to 10 times faster than my GN was.

You're mileage may vary.

It took them a while to get an update out to Bionic owners. That didn't solve the switching problem.

I had the GN and really loved the feel, weight, speed, look, and the list really does go on and on. It "is" a great phone.

But... IMHO it does have some issues which made me return it and exchange it out for the Rezound.
1. My opinion is that the antenna is not as strong as the Rezound, or many other phones for that matter. In my house I was getting around -105dBm on a constant basis (on 4G). The speedtest app was normally around 2-3 down / 1-2 up.

2. The camera is much better on the Rezound.

3. I think the sound overall (headphones, external speaker, and phone calls) is much better.

4. Battery life: I'm getting the same battery life using the stock Rezound battery as I was getting with the GN extended battery.

5. Data drops: I would just be sitting, go to grab my phone and I had not data connection at all. I would have to put the phone in airplane mode and sometimes even have to do a full reboot to get it back.

See my post in the GN forum where I posted screenshots of my signal strength. I didn't care about actual bars being shown, I only gauged my strength by viewing the phone signal strength under the settings.

Right now the Rezound while I'm sitting here on my couch is on 4G and showing normally between -71/-80 dBm

That's a pretty big variance from my GN.

And yes, there is a chance that the GN could get a software/firmware update to help with the signal issue but that is a chance I just could not take.

The bottom line is with all of the bickering I see here on this forum and the GN forum is this... They are "both" great phones and are "both" arguably the top 2 phones on the market right now. Get which phone you like and regardless of your choice I'm sure you will enjoy it ;)

The dBm reading on the rezound is irrelevant. That is not a 4g signal reading.

I continue to be amazed by most people thinking they have to talk down someone else's phone in order to justify their own phone. If you like/love your phone share the things you like/love about it and also the things you don't like. Aren't we all a little old for "Mine's better than yours". I really love the forums for all the help and supported opinions and remember that each person's experience may vary based on quality of the device, the area he/she is using the device, the manner (Heavy, medium, light use) and so many other factors. Be happy with what you've got or get something else. Personally, I REALLY REALLY wanted to get one of the Big 3 (Razr, Rezound, Nexus), they're all great devices BUT for me they were all too big. I got a Dinc 2 instead and I'm really happy with it. Personally, this just confirmed MY PERSONAL OPINION that a 4.0" screen is the biggest I'm comfortable with.

I have a question about these 2 phones. I just left the verizon store where I played around with both phones. The Rezound, RAZR, and the Nexus were all side by side by side. All 3 phones had the speedtest app installed. I am in the Oklahoma city area and while on 4g the Rezound scored 10-12 on the download every time. The RAZR did almost the same maybe just a little less. The Nexus would only score 6.5 Max with the average of around 5. Is this test/app accurate? Does it really mean anything? I went with the intention of buying the Nexus and I do like the looks of its screen the best. Now I'm still l

I experienced the same thing. I really wanted a GN - but all the initial reports killed it for me - bad signal, loudspeaker, mics, call drops. Bottomline is that I need my phone to work. I travel all over the country and getting a good signal to call home and receive email is vital.

I did a speedtest with the GN against the Rezound in 4 different VZW stores. Two in Chicago and two in Los Angeles. The Rezound always won by around 4MB. That was enough to push me to the Rezound. I actually asked a rep why and he just shrugged his shoulders.

Irrelevant or not I can attest (at least for me) that my download speeds are much faster both up and down and I've yet to have an actual data or phone call drop.... That tells me the people claiming the GN has a signal issue are not trolls but people having real problems.

And while you say the 4G dBm is not relevant the 3G signal vs. my GN is better as well. Either way, I already mentioned I really really liked my GN. I just could not take the chance that the signal issue would not be corrected.

I'm not a troll, although I play one on tv. Lol.

I'm starting to get concerned about my Nexus radio. I never cared about dbm. I started to care when my wife's Rezound smoked my Nexus in bandwidth tests. She doubled my speeds.

Last night I went to Verizon and tested my phone against all their LTE displays. I again got smoked by every phone (sans Nexus). The tests weren't even close. Ironically, neither my Nexus, nor the display Nexus could lock on to LTE. Both Nexus units could only grab a 3G signal. This in a saturated LTE market.

I'm gonna give myself until the weekend to decide what to do.

The Nexus really isn't for everyone. If you aren't happy with it, return it and exchange it while you still can.

See you should never really go off speed test because they don't mean any radio is better than the other one. For example the nexus blows away the rezound here... Doesn't mean it will blow it away all the rime or the radios in the rezound aren't good. Everybody doesnt have signal issues with the nexus. Mine is fine.

I agree, but that's only in whatever alternate universe you currently reside in, PERIOD.

Sent from the only Q4 2011 Verizon release that hasn't recieved a single performance,.nor a single maintenance related OTA out of the box upon.release. FACT. I'm not saying it's #1, but it's definitely not one iota, below the GN, P4P.

If stock android is so great, may I ask why stock ICS has so many Sense features? Even most "stock" roms are not vanilla at all. They put a bunch of other crap to make it better, because vanilla is not good (gingerbread at least). Even my brother who swears by stock still uses Zeam launcher, because the stock launcher is pretty well crap. Vanilla ICS is the Nexus' only advantage over the Rezound.

Comparing the 2 phones now is hard, because one is on Vista, and one is on Win7. Even the same computer runs quite different on different OS's, and anyone who flashes any amount of Rom's can attest to this as well.

We can say this. We don't have many complaints of signal issue's over here. Or of crappy speaker volume, or half the screen not responding to touch inputs. You can say your buttons are not pink, and your phone is not overheating.

*99% of my post content is old hat, i.e. nothing new to you. I'm just saying it to say it.

Good points but I don't take that as them touting Vanilla as being better for that reason. Open source dev. is the only reason running stock Android is worth a hill of beans. I'm just ecstatic HtcDevs helped HTCs newest owners get our foot in the "custom" door and steal some of the Nexus shine.

Dude ur out of touch from reality. Lol that's video proof of a nexus out performing a rezound. Which proves my point that speed tests vary. And can go either way. Also, just because it doesn't receive a update doesn't mean crap. The nexus will obviously receive more updates then the rezound ever will. 4.0.3 is already on standby for carrier approval. Your a rare case. The only android user that doesn't like updates. Most people on here embrace them with open arms. Lol
