Ringtone previews not playing sound / silent

I am trying to select a ringtone (I have the LTE model), but when previewing the ringtone (simply by selecting it), it doesn't play the preview sound, it's just silent. My ringtone volume is set at max, there's no battery limitations /power saving selected so not quite sure what's stopping it. Android version 7.0. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! You posted in the Galaxy S II forum, which is for the ancient S II released in 2011. Which phone do you have?

Are you selecting preinstalled or custom ringtones? If custom, are they saved to Internal Storage or the SD card? Make sure they're on Internal Storage, in the /Ringtones directory.
