Help! My wife has installed on her HTC Desire (great phone) a ringtone
app (birdsong soundboard) and set the notification sound to a
particularly awful and rather disturbing bird cry which sounds like a
scream. She now can't get rid of this as a default, despite
uninstalling the app and re-assigning the default sound to a more
normal one. I can't find any way to communicate with the authors of
the app. Can anyone help (other than by a factory reset!). Thanks

Wow, must be driving you crazy. You might try connecting to your pc as a disk drive, and take a look at the sd card and see if there's anything left of the app. Also look in the media folder as well.

If you have a "rooted" phone, you might be able to use a good file manager to find the offending ringtone in the phone memory. I can, but I also have a different ROM flashed.

Other than that, looks like a factory reset. Do your backups though.
