Having LauncherPro FC problem on boot. I saw people talking about it in a previous post, but now I can't find it. Anyone have a good workaround?

I had same problem. Try the browser patch thats on the first page of this thread... On my phone our I would copy and post for you.

I appreciate the step-by-step suggestion Littlwing, and I gave it a shot. Unfortunately, I was still having the data problems before I even got to the step to download my backup software and restore my apps. I'll figure out what to try next tonight after work, I might try going back to stock see if that changes anything.

@ snareman as well,

I read through all your posts guys, and after reviewing the thread and thread over on XDA, Here's what I would try if I was in your shoes.. just a recommendation, obviously you all are smart dudes..however, I am confident this is the best chance to fix your ills.. the best option for both of you is to try this. (dys I know you already did a complete wipe, but just bare with me)

Delete existing comrom1.3.zip from your phone

Redownload the rom, store on sd obviously.

Backup your apps with My backup pro or Tibu whatever you prefer. Export your contacts to sdcard or make sure they are sync'd to google. (If you don't have these done already)

Boot phone all the way down. Pull battery, put back in, three button push straight to CWM

Wipe cache and davlik three times each

Wipe data/factory reset

Install comrom

wipe data/factory reset

Boot your phone, and let the media scanner finish before touching anything..

When it fully boots and media scanner is done.

*228 option 1 it will reboot

*228 option 2 it will reboot again

Boot into cwm..flash browser patch

Reboot

Check data..use your browser to try to load a page or do a search

If data is good,

Then add your google account, and download your backup software from the market..

Just restore your apk.s DON"T RESTORE APP DATA or SYSTEM SETTINGS..

Reboot..

Check data again.. if it is bad, the problem is with your restore from your backup..

If all is good, check your messaging app.. see if it's working.. if it is not, then I would flash the messaging patch on the op..(I followed the same procedure as listed and messaging works fine, but I haven't written any really long messages. I know MMS works.. )

I know this requires clearing your phone, ugh.., but the way it sounds, you all were both going to do it anyway..

KBv1.3 is the best I've had on my phone, but is very sensitive to the install process..I hit some snags the first install and ended up doing it over.... Like I said you all are obviously smart people, this is just what I would do if I had your problems!

Good luck and let us know how you all get it fixed!! ;)

I appreciate the detailed plan. Yea, I was hoping to avoid the wipe, but you're right, sounds like I am going to have to do it anyway. I've never used Ti backup or any of those so I'm going to have to look into it first. Maybe I'll look into all of this this afternoon.

Thanks again!

boot animation

stupid question, but where the heck is the boot animation? Im trying to replace it, and i thought it was supposed to go in data/local folder, but Im guessing im wrong?

Gotcha. And that patch worked out for you?

The fc issue is related to TSM parts..try un- installing lp, clearing caches, then reinstalling lp.

ugh... 1.3 GPS is configured to work with a data wipe after flashing the rom. You may never get it working until you try that.
:'(

I was having problems with GPS before reading your clear instructions. Went back and reflashed 1.3 following your steps. Locked onto GPS in less than 10 seconds!

Thanks!

repair permissions

Don't know if it will help others, but it did for me. In red CWM 2.5.1.x, under advanced. hth.

Just a few questions -

1. why wipe the cache 3 times each? I did it twice each when I flashed 1.3, although my brain said that once should in theory be enough.

2. If I'm voodooed, does doing the factory reset matter in any way? I'm asking this along the lines of "don't install nonvoodoo over voodoo". Does the factory wipe it back to a voodooed factory setting? And with what ROM or OS installed? Or is it just a clean 1.3?

3. Why am I doing a factory reset both before AND after installing the ComRom? After that point in your instructions you don't say to reinstall it, so what does that leave me with installed?

4. Is it any better to not back up the apps and just install them fresh?

Thanks!

1. In theory 1 cache wipe each should work, but it doesn't hurt to wipe multiple times, and some have said it helps clear the caches to absolute. Thusly three times.

2. This won't affect voodoo at all, as long as you've already flashed ComRom or other voodoo kernel once. No need to do anything there. Data wipe/factory reset in CWM simply erases all user data. Contacts, third party apps, sms, mms, accounts that are set up, call log, etc. Imagine an out of the box phone. It doesn't affect the Rom, Kernel, or theme.

3. I recommended a data wipe before and after, to give 1.3 a clean slate to install to, and after because it's necessary to get the GPS to work properly. (Adry recommended)

4. This is your call..If you don't mind re-downloading every application you have than you don't have to back them up..It's your perogative with apps. However, Contacts is another issue. Make sure you've backed up your contacts somehow. There are a number of methods, I export mine to the sdcard, sync with my google account, and backup with backup pro. I recommend at least two ways..

Good Luck!

I won't be around much tonight, but there are plenty of great peopes here to help you out!!

But if I do a factory reset after I flash 1.3, what does that leave me with installed?

I have my contacts backed up to google so I'm ok there.

Thanks.

if you do a data wipe (make sure you do that from clockwork and not from within the rom) then you will have the commuinty rom and your phone wiped of any data you will have to readd your google info

Thanks.

Sorry snare, I added that in my last post reread #2..

Just to make sure, the is a wipe data/factory reset (it's two or three down in the menu) in clockwork recovery. Don't use the factory reset in settings. Its a soft brick.

EDIT : Thanks Dxc.. didn't see your post I was typing :p

So it will basically wipe it to a "stock" ComRom? Basically starting with something the equal of a stock phone, just with the comrom?

Yes. All user data will be gone. Imagine an out of the box, Samsung Fascinate with ComRom 1.3 installed..it would be a better world, and a less busy forum!
