ROM ALERT: Baked Snack v1.6 [update6]

Hey so I'm running 1.6, worked fine for awhile, but now my phone fc's when I get phone calls about 25% of the time and BeautifulWidgets does the same. Typically happens when coming from sleep mode. Any ideas?

I ran Baked Snack for a long time and never had any force closes. Try wiping and reflashing the ROM.

Hi there,
Just moved from a TP2 to my first Android phone (Epic of course) and had to root it immediately. Right now I'm on Baked 1.6 to hopefully improve the battery life. All seems well on Ultimate (after 1 hour anyway), I can play angry birds without FC which seems to be everybodies test. Only problem is I can't launch youtube without an FC. This happens on any kernal including babystep kernal. Anyone else? Is there a way to reload the youtube app without a total ROM reflash?

Edit: looks like the issue has to do with logging on to an account using the youtube app. If I clear all data from the app using Startup auditor youtube works fine. Killing and restarting works fine until I log in, then it FCs at startup. this must be what it meant on the BakedSnack page in the descriptions where it said

"added "gingerbread" youtube (problems with signing in on this. see instructions to revert)"

Unfortunatly I can't find anything about reverting youtube in the instructions.
Can anyone help here?

Unzip Baked Snack on your computer and navigate to /system/app, copy youtube.apk onto your phone's SD card, then use Root Explorer to move the apk to /system/app on your phone, overwriting the Gingerbread YouTube (make sure to close YouTube before doing this).

Seems that the youtube.apk in the zip file is the same version that is installed. However, there is also a youtube.bak in the directory. Is that a backup of the earlier version, and if so how do I restore it?

Same here, there were some corrupt launcher pro apks in the rom, so when you apply any theme it fixed the issue. I installed early am and haven't dropped below 80% and had over 45 minutes of radio use!

hi, just wondering if this is known to be true, that if you flash a theme, it takes care of the ultimate kernel issues? i was so excited to find this.... and am just gonna try it out now....

I'm not aware of that problem, but if the LauncherPro is corrupt then uninstalling it should fix the problem. Unless I'm misunderstanding the root of the issue - because there should only be a single .apk file for LauncherPro.

hey, thanks for the reply.... wasn't sure if anyone was watching this thread :)

ah ok, i could have just tried that.... what i did was go ahead and flash the ultimate kernel back on(was using step2), then flashed the baked theme.... so i'm gonnna see if that stops my freezing issues with ultimate. i'd love to get this kernel running stable on my phone.

i had another question here: i just looked at my 'about phone', and it seems that after flashing the baked theme, my firmware version says Baked-Snack 1.4..... is that normal, is that from flashing the theme? i was most certainly on 1.6 before.

so i think what i'm gonna try is running it with this theme, and setcpu at 200-1200, conservative?? thx!

yay, I got the ultimate kernel working! I swear, it just wouldn't run right the first couple times I tried it.... but I ended up Odining back to stock, re-rooting, formatting my memory card, the flashing the Rom and kernel, and voila.... runs great! so I don't know if anyone is still running this rom(I'm sure there must be some), but perhaps it helps to start with a COMPLETELY clean slate before loading this setup.

I'm just excited! maybe now I can relax and just enjoy the setup.... it really makes my Epic more fun to use!

The freezing has nothing to do with your theme, it is due to the lowered voltage of the kernel that is used to increase battery life. Some phones can handle it more than others. If your phone is prone to freezing at the Ultimate kernel's voltage, you won't notice it until you do some more intense operations (like playing games). My old test was to play Angry Birds - if my phone didn't freeze after a level of that, then it usually never did at all.

Acceptable CPU speed also varies from phone to phone - mine didn't like going over 1200Mhz, but others have no problem at 1300MHz. You'll have to play around with it and see what freezes your phone and what doesn't.

And the version number difference is most likely due to the theme.

ah ok, thanks ragnarokx! well, I think I found my personal stress test: the first thing to freeze the phone all day was sending a picture thru email.... tried twice, froze both times...... darn! not sure if there's a workaround, went back to step2 for now.... gotta be able to email pics. thx for the info..... cheers.

Bluetooth file receive not working

1st off Love the Baked Snack 1.6 on my Epic, battery life is an abomination without this rom. Only thing that I noticed and would like confirmed is the inability to receive a file via bluetooth, I can send files just fine to other devices fine but I can't receive. Can anyone else confirm?

Thanks

Yes the battery is an abomination. Can't wait for a 2.2 rom with exeptional battery life. In fact Sprint and Samsung should give the baked snack dev some cash because this rom is the only thing that has kept me from getting a different phone.

I have not experienced issues with bluetooth file transfers.

for me, battery life has not been what I had hoped with Baked Snack 1.6. it is very fast, that's for sure, but even with the ultimate kernel, I'm getting average battery life. I've been changing my rom and kernel constantly, trying to get good battery life. probably the best I've had so far is with the Phoenix kernel, on either Syndicate or Epic Experience. still love Baked Snack tho, and I get better batt. life on it than I do with stock.

I must confess tho, I usually have setCPU cranked up to 1200 max..... it would probably be better to keep it at 800 or 1000, which is what I'll probably experiment with next.

I'm using this ROM currently, and I get great battery life running this with Extreme Kernel 1.2.0. The splash screen is kinda spotty, but thats it.

yeah, I ended up flashing back to stock, and reflashing 1.6...... getting great battery life indeed. haven't tried the xtreme kernel with this rom tho... but I might as well, lol.

So, I had a peculiar experience with this rom with the step2 kernel: I had just freshly installed it, with a2sd, and charged it up all the way. Then unplugged and went to bed..... the darn thing lasted almost 20 hours on that one charge, moderate to heavy use at times! But, towards the end, everything was lagging pretty bad, even things like the contacts and messaging apps taking 5 to 10 seconds to load... stuff like that. Then, when it finally did die and shut down, it wouldn't boot back up! It would get past the Samsung screen, but the boot animation wouldn't come on, and it would just hang at the black screen. All in all a strange experience.
