[ROM] Android Open Kang Project

I would just start over dude. It's not that bad to set everything back up after wiping data if you backup your launcher, texts, and apps first. The only real pain in the butt after that is setting up the ROM stuff (nav bar, lockscreen, status bar, yada yada)... and it's not even that bad.

That's my opinion anyway. Backup everything, then wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, format system... then reflash the ROM and gapps, reboot, and restore your stuff.

I'm about to hit b35 after lunch. Been slacking. Pretty sure you could disable the bug mailer since way back. For sure on M5, that's what I'm on now.

Good luck man.

i did all of this last night, thats why im so puzzled about why im getting the bug mailer (especially with 4.0.2 keys in it!!!)

here is what i did (as prescribed)

1. NANDROID
2. Wipe/Factory Reset
3. Wipe Cache
4. Wipe Dalvik
5. Flash B35
6. Flash GApps
7. Use AppExtractor to restore APKs for all apps, as well as SMS and some game data.

you mention doing a format system as well.... i havent seen this prescribed in any instructions. what does that wipe thats different from data/cache wipe and factory reset?

When you say all apps, you don't mean system apps right? You probably don't, but just in case... don't ever do that. That's why I suggested formatting the system though. The system partition is separate from the other stuff. You don't normally have to do that, but I always do when switching ROMs... not from build to build, but from one developers ROM to a completely different one, I always do it then. It may not be necessary, but I've been virtually problem free flashing stuff with that MO (apart from having moments and doing something totally stupid).

I don't know what exact order you're doing everything in, but I do it like this:

1 - Update all my apps worth updating(Play Store)
2 - Backup my texts (SMS Backup+)
3 - Backup my launcher/home settings (Nova)
4 - Reboot Recovery
5 - Wipe Cache
6- Make a Nandroid (yes, I wipe cache before that so if I need to restore, it's nice and snappy)
7 - Wipe Dalvik
8 - Wipe data/factory reset
9 - Format system
10 - Choose zip/Install ROM
11 - Choose zip/Install gapps
12 - Choose zip/install kernel (optional)
13 - Reboot

After rebooting, I skip the sign in and download Titanium Backup from the play store. Restore all my USER apps, and certain ones with data. I use the batch restore function for both. Then I enable google sync/keep it backed up, blah blah blah. Restore my texts... restore Nova settings... reset ringtones/vibrate/display sleep timer/all that jazz... then setup all the ROM contol stuff.

If that's what you've been doing, I seriously have no idea what your bug is. I would definitely try formatting the system though, and do NOT restore data to any system apps.

yeah, only user apps, sorry. the only system app i restored data for was gallery, so i can get my pics back.
i seem to have a very similar process (well, not counting the apps used - i dont use TiBu or sms+ - appextractor does it all in one menu), so really not sure why im getting this problem. i guess the last resort is to wipe again, and format system as well.

as a side note... any idea how i can restore my wallpaper that i had set prior to wipe? i didnt save the image, and cant find it anymore. i presume its part of nandroid, but i cant seem to find the option to restore

I wish I could be of more help. I have literally never had any ROM do that, lol

As for the wallpaper... I believe if you do market restore rather than manually restoring, it will reset your wallpaper. Can't say for sure though, I haven't done it in a long time. You have to have your device set to be synced with Google beforehand though.

I have disable bugmailer unchecked and I have never had this bugmailer problem.

@nycinek, so checking this box gets rid of the bugmailer thing that you have going on?

I don't have my bugmailer disabled. Most people probably don't. It's so funny that it sends it to him though, lol

Not taking away from your frustration, but that IS funny bro :D

Do not restore gallery. You will still have all your photos and videos. Those are not wiped. I would also switch to TiBu and SMS+ as those have worked perfect for me, and I know nothing about appextractor and what it may be doing.

This.

Don't know how I missed that. Gallery is a system app, don't do that.

was getting bug mailer even before i did this. but fair point.

i decided to poke around in /system last night. there is a file there, build.prop. could someone let me know what theirs looks like? mine begins as follows:

# begin build properties
# autogenerated by buildinfo.sh
ro.build.id=ICL53F
ro.build.display.id=aokp_toro-userdebug 4.0.4
IMM76I eng.roman.20120508.235858 test-keys
ro.build.version.incremental=235179

wondering why it shows build id as ICL53F from stock 4.0.2

Mine says the same. I think it has to do with the 4.0.4 not being "official" for this device, so it still needs the 4.0.2 release keys/ build.prop stuff for signed gapps and stuff? Not really sure?

A coworker of mine will be here in a little while and he has the sprint gnex on official 4.0.4. I know he unlocked, but not sure if he rooted. If so, I'll look at his build.prop and see if it lists 4.0.2 or 4.0.4.

I think the base for developers is 4.0.2 though, so maybe that's why?

Someone else that spends more time with this stuff bail me out here, before I make myself look even more stupid than I already have :D

When you're setting up your account/re-signing in, you should see a check box for restoring from Google. Make sure that's checked (the check mark is usually pre-populated), and then just keep hitting next. Market Restore = automatic.

durf..
thanks guys. ill try to wipe again, and will report if im still haunted by the bugmailer

I would be interested in comparing app lists with you if you don't figure this one out. My wife's Gnex is getting these bug mailer things several times a day and I am having a heck of a time figuring it out. She is not AOKP however (CM9), but as I am also running CM9 I was pretty sure it is not a ROM issue.

If you don't get it resolved on your next flash, send me PM and we can compare :). I don't want to hijack this thread with my CM9-ness. ;)

Good luck!

EDIT- Quick question for you, the one having the bugmailer problem :).

Do you have a case that covers all the buttons? Found another post elsewhere where this was the ultimate cause of the problem, along with a possible way to break the bugmailer itself to prevent this from happening. My wife DOES have such a case.

Not tried yet, but renaming/removing bugmailer.sh from /system/bin. Sorry if this has been stated before.

wwwwwhhhhhaaaaaaaaaa? lol. a case that covers buttons causing bugmailer? how??!!
i have a soft TPU case from ebay that has a cutout for power, but a thin skin over the volume buttons.

Just an update... my buddy at work has not unlocked or rooted. Says he's waiting to see if an update is coming out soon first (dear lord).

Anyway, sorry about that. He's the only person I know with a sprint gnex.

I have not gotten my exacto knife out yet, but apparently the error is from the buttons being held too long unexpectedly or somesuch. I plan on cutting the case once the kids are in bed. Based on the frequency my wife was seeing the problem, should know in less than a day if this resolves it.

So far so good. Wiped cache/dalvik/system and installed b36
Restored from Google though had to use appextractor for some user app data
Leaving bug mailer on, let's see what happens!!
