just thought I would throw this up here, we now have an official release candidate of CM 6.0 Android 2.2(froyo)

I take no credit, I am just the bringer of good news... from xda

CyanogenMod is a free, community built distribution of Android 2.2 (Froyo) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.

This version is a release candidate, but you will find it stable for everyday use.

Code:

#include <std_disclaimer.h>
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* The CM team is not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, you getting fired because the alarm app failed, or anything whatsoever.
* Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/

This is an AOSP-based build with extra contributions from many people which you can use without any type of Google applications. I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread. I've still included the various hardware-specific code, which seems to be slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Visit the CHANGELOG for a full list of changes and features!

All source code is available at the CyanogenMod Github! Send pull requests with your changes!

INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM 6 (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Unlock/root your device - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753910
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. Update your radio if necessary
4. WIPE
5. Install the ROM
5. Optionally install the Google Addon

- Upgrading from earlier CM6?
1. Do a Nandroid Backup!
2. Install the ROM (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)

HOW TO REPORT BUGS OR PROBLEMS?
- Was it a hard reboot? Get me the file "/proc/last_kmsg".
- Was it a soft reboot or a "boot loop"? Run "adb logcat" and get me the full output.
- Pastebin links preferred
- Please use the issue tracker whenever possible!

Please visit the CyanogenMod Wiki for step-by-step installation walkthroughs and tons of other useful information.

Thank you to EVERYONE involved in helping with testing, coding, debugging and documenting! Enjoy!

Known Issues:
* Going into the Camera app through the Gallery App freezes the phone
* Only white, red, and green led works in the led notifications settings in CM settings (thats the way it'll always be, just need to trim those settings to only allow for those)

Thanks for this information!!
I have not rooted or flashed anything other than the stock ROM at this point. If I decide to for Froyo, I think this will be a very helpful piece of information!!

Tons of features packed into this ROM. Only thing is that I installed Launcher Pro in place of ADW Launcher -- peronsal preference :)

Job well done to the Cyanogen et al putting new stuff out for the community to use.

does anyone have an idea why the calendar isn't searchable in these CM6 builds (RC1 and the nightlys)?

Thanks, darch and crew! This is killer!

Sent from my CDMA Hero running CM6. Got me some hot froyo on hero action!

I just flashed to the 8.18 nightly build and it's even quicker than RC1 - and no lag from waking up on sleep.

I'm also using the 8.18 the main issue I'm having with it is my battery drains very fast.

I've downloaded some task killers. I can't figure out what the issue is just yet. I even have selected in the settings to have the END button put the phone to sleep.

If you go over to XDA there is an uncapped kernel and a battery tweak that are made for this rom i get at leat 12 + hours with alot of use

I just started rooting recently, but still using 2.1 ROMs to get used to the process.

How many Froyo ROMs are out there for the Sprint Hero?
I have read on earlier forums that Sense will not be available at all for the Hero running Froyo. Do any of them (or the single one available) have HTC Sense?

I know a lot of people don't like Sense, but I am one who likes it and it runs very smooth with a rooted phone.

the only froyo rom is cm6 darchstars but there are different themes to it they dont have sense but if you want the feel of sense i heard that launcher pro is like it

there is no sense for the froyo build (unless the legend eventually gets froyo) but I was one that really liked sense and have found that the only thing I really cared about with sense was the scrolling contact widget and there is one in the market that works with ADW that scrolls just like the HTC one. I agree that when rooted the custom sense roms run much better but this froyo build makes them seem like a 56k modem vs broadband.

OK, sounds good, I know I will miss Sense, but I want Froyo.

What's up with the Froyo version right now? I read a while ago 2 items were not working, I think something with the camera and something else.

Have these already been corrected? How is everything else running, any other minor bugs that should also be fixed?

Froyo has been my daily ROM since the first test and yes, the only issues were camera preview and video were not working but have been fixed. Havent found anything wrong with it yet tbh.

I was happily running Honeybun for a month, but started messing up when I was playing with ROM Manager. I had to reset the phone, so I figured I might as well take the plunge.

I flashed the 8.24 nightly and have been absolutely loving it since. It's built using ADW Launcher, and that mimics Sense in many ways. I can live without some of the widgets offered with Sense, and for a few dollars I could even replicate many of those.

It's taken a little getting used to, but overall I have yet to find problems with it and it's made my Hero a brand new phone. Faster, cleaner, and the battery life has been excellent.

Fantastic review, just what 'I wanted' to hear and apparently is all true.

As for the battery life, I've read Froyo is a little hard on the battery. Did you download one of those battery improvements for it or is it just long battery on its own?

battery life for me has been about the same as anything else I have ran, that being said I do use the collin_ph battery tweak with the 710 defaults
