ROM for picky wife?

My wife and I are both still using Nexus 4 devices. She absolutely loves hers, and does not want to give it up yet.

Unfortunately, it seems that Lollipop is a bit of an afterthought with this device. I understand that... It's over 2 years old now. She however is not as forgiving.

We have both been experiencing stability issues. It doesn't phase me so much... I have no problem rooting/flashing etc. My wife just wants it to work again.

I'm thinking of putting a ROM on her phone, but which one?

Is anything going to be better than CM 11?

I think these things are important...

1. Stability
2. Up to date without the need to manually flash
3. Low maintenance

I could do a factory image back to 4.4.4, but wouldn't she still get notifications to upgrade to LP?

What would you do in this situation?

If the phone has stability issues, why not just fix the stability issues? Flashing a ROM on a bad phone still leaves you with a bad phone. If the ROM is corrupt, reflash the stock ROM.

2. Up to date without the need to manually flash
That would be an OTA update, and the latest one you can get is Lollipop - which is the opposite of stability.

3. Low maintenance
ROMs don't require maintenance. My 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROM still runs, and it's never been "maintained".

Not if you rooted and froze the update app.

Let her do what she wants. Whatever you do, you're going to be wrong for one reason or another. (Or haven't you been married for more than a few months?)

My wife is now on 4.4.4. (AT&T makes dead snails look fast when it comes to updates.) I warned her about Lollipop and told her that if she allows the update, I didn't want to hear about it. That's as far as I'll go. (I don't think there's a safe root for AT&T 4.4.4 yet, so she's on her own.)

Neither of us had stability issues before the flash. I've tried clearing the cache/re-installing apps on her phone. I could reflash the stock ROM, but I did a clean factory image on mine and had issues as well.

This is why I was considering CM11 since it has an update system.

I'm more worried about continued security in this regard.

LOL

We've been married for 18 years... She says she only keeps me around for tech support and taxes... :)

Because she is going to lose everything on her phone when I do this, I'm pretty sure I'm only going to have one shot at it. :)
