ROM install Questions from a noob

I'm have tried to start it by going into ROM manager, I have tried using backup current ROM and from reboot into recovery all in ROM manager. I also tried to start it by holding down the button combination with the phone powered off. It still booted into the regular stock recovery. Am I doing something wrong ?

I'm new to this and I was using this thread to help complete the clockwork back up. I got it installed and everything came up ok, when I went to do the back up its been sitting for about 15 minutes now. Black screen, red light on top and all the bottom buttoms are lite on my epic. Should it be taking this long?

the only time ive ever been stuck at that black screen is when i was pushing the "home" button to try and select things in clockwork. make sure you use the camera button to select your options in clockwork

did you upload recovery using the one click method on the forum?

http://forum.androidcentral.com/epic-4g-roms-hacks/34603-clockworkmod-recovery-instructions.html

or look for one on xda. i dont remember which one i used. but i think this is a necessary step before doing anything with clockwork on the phone. i think it has something to do with you need a clockwork compatible kernel on your phone. so check that out. and someone correct me if im wrong so i know what this is for

Oh I figured out what it was. I needed to flash the kernal first (I didn't know). What i used was from the SDX developers site, its like a Swiss army knife for the epic that includes one click root, the superuser.apk, a root uninstaller for DI18, the andromeda kernal and a SDK stock app remover apk. All this is run through simple command line selections.

Ill link it if I can : Epic 4G All in One Root and Recovery 1.13 for Windows, Intel Mac, and Linux

It worked for me, now im running baked snack I think it's called on my epic but will grab epic experience and see what that is like as well. The link you gave, I tried but gave up because it was late and took too many steps.

yeah i thought that was your problem. .for some reason a lot of people overlook that major part

Even using the "Swiss Army Knife" of one-clicks, posted above, I keep getting the following while trying to load Clockwork:

The items in bold have my attention and I suspect are the issue. Any Ideas?
I should note that the rooting works without issue (Wifi Tether works fine, as well as the SDX tool included in the one click...I get said errors whether rooted or not...

well it says it installed correctly. go download rom manager>flash clockwork recover>click reboot into recovery - if it takes you to the green recovery your good. if you get stuck at "signature failure" or something like that your not
