[RoM] LG Optimus Q - Team Hydro

Ok think I have my head straight now. I can quick boot into recovery, at bottom of recovery
Page it says. Cwm based recovery v5.0.2.7. E: bad boot message "recovery"
Is that good? I thought it flashed the rom but it does not look any different. Phone was already
Rooted. I thought it might list different info under about phone?
Do you think the flash didn't take?

I'm slightly confused on how you worded everything.
So you have custom recovery?

Yes , when I quick boot recovery comes up, the list of options are there.

If I select install zip from sd card I can see the team hydro zip
I ran the zip file yesterday.

Sorry for confusion, I am replying from my phone

If you're not sure the ROM flashed. just check your about phone.

If this is only for the Optimus Q, why in the world is it in the Optimus Slider forum?????
There are only a handful of Optimus Slider and Optimus Q users. You both for the time being are sharing your forums. Everything is labeled properly in the thread titles to distinguish the two.

I apologize for asking again... but the one thing I dislike about this ROM is the fact I cannot update su binaries. I realize the phone is rooted, and I do see a noticable increase in performance and battery life with this ROM. I'd say performance maybe ~5% battery life about ~10%. But, I would like to be able to completely update the applications I run. I doubt I'll ever need the updated binaries since I've gotten over the majority of the novelty of having an Android device...(I've installed and themed as much as I can without moving on to a custom rom like cyanogen (not gonna happen...even after christmas this phone has barely any users and I'm beyond agitated that StraightTalk/Net10 are about to release an Optimus Black on their network.) I'm not trying to knock your work...you did a great job with this. I'm just curious why we cant update the su binaries? And if we can...how do we do so? When I attempted to reroot, a couple of days ago, I noticed that the esteem root ran properly until the end. I got the whole its a gg man, but (I cant recall the name of the directory) a directory was missing and unable to be written. All I did was reflash your Hydro LG Optimus Q rom.

Edit: Are the su binaries installed in /sbin or is the device S-On locked now? From what I've read if its /sbin we cant update the binaries. If it's S-On we can flash the binaries via a .zip. I'm sorry to be a nag seriously.

so i was wondering if anyone had a backup of all the original stock apps?

i only ask this cuz i recently rooted my wifes phone after which i removed some of the less needed apps new and weather, contacts(replaced with gocontacts) mms, just to name a few... well now her pic msging isnt working im guessing due to removing mms.apk and if i try to move it back to the internal storage it only tells me "app not installed". i move the .apk and .odex tryed just the .apk without the .odex and nothing...

i would normally just flash a rom to it and be done with it but she refuses to use a rom so im almost outta options...

would love it if someone could help with this sending a backup of all the stock roms would be the best!

thank you

I want to update anyone curious and idiotic enough to use their phone as the guinea pig... I learned the hard way that flashing the su binaries via cwm won't work. I accomplished getting a "vnull" binary and derooting the phone in the process. At this point I give up and accept they can't be updated. I'm just curious about why that is the case. I'm more interested in the technical side of it at this point than actually updating them.
On another note... I do have to emphatically thank you for this rom. I've gotten a little frustrated but I do love this build. My phone runs great and my battery life is considerably better. I'm killing the battery now to hopefully improve on that even more. Thank you again.

Rookie407, I have a backup of the original rom...if that would help you at all. But I don't have any backups of the apps themselves.

Edit: It's hard hard hard work being able to update the su binaries and getting software update to work automatically. BUT, dammit if it cant be done beautifully. :) Now I've got my su binaries updated, and updating perfectly...md5 checksums working. SuperUser updates not being a problem. And a device with decent battery life. I know this place isn't here for bragging but I'm jumping up and down at the moment...

I just wanted to say (I know its my first post on here)...this rom is very nice. I'm new to android but certainly not new to the Linux OS. I think it is a bit snappier, I've yet to find any problems...though it does seem very stock. I decided to load your rom because I was quickly filling up the internal memory on this phone even after moving all my apps to the sd card (that i could). The flashing was quite straight forward. I do recommend everyone with this phone after flashing updates their profile and prl. I know the radio.img isn't touched but its a good practice to have with these phones as sprint is expanding a lot in my area at least. I did have one screw up...entirely my fault though. After the initial reboot (following the flash) the screen was a bit laggy and I ended up in spanish during the initial setup. IDK how I changed the language I never even saw the prompt it was just lagging at first. I couldn't read anything in front of me so I reflashed it lol. The second time worked beautifully.

I highly recommend everyone keep this .zip handy. I personally backed it up to my computer so as to free up space on the sdcard. This is a nice build. I like the space you freed up. This phone is really pretty nice if you know what you're doing with it. I'd love to be able to flash the kernel to attempt an overclock. You should be able to overclock this cpu to around 1ghz. Though, this phone is actually snappier than my gf's unrooted Galaxy S 4g. Thats pre-this rom and I'll run a quadrant test to see if theres any difference with this rom compared to the stock built in rom.

Thank you!!!

Edit: Without any SetCPU or any other tweaking... out of the box it gets a quadrant score of 1040 whereas when I ran the test initially on the previous rom that score was in the mid 900s. After rooting and tweaking on the old rom I was able to attain similar scores to this one. Though it had a laggier interface. I do not know if your changes made any difference to the quadrant scores or if that was simply a poorer run...however, I didn't retest before I went straight into rooting the device and installing setcpu so I can only go by that initial score.

How did you go about updating your PRL? Ive tried every method ive seen listed and cant even pull the MSL out of this phone

Bottom left menu key - settings - about phone - settings update - update prl. You just need to make sure you have a decent signal.

Hey Everyone i am a noob. Could someone please drop a link to the correct instructions on how to make a backup image of this phone. My phone is rooted but i cant seem to find the correct instructions to work with this phone.
Thanks!

From what I understand about this phone and this rom... There is less Internal Memory with this rom, the phone is a bit snappier and the battery life a bit better. But I see about 20mb difference in the internal memory that we're allowed to use. The system os partition I think (pure speculation) took that 20mb. It cost me the ability to update software automatically and update su binaries. As much as I like this rom I'm not sure what jon did when he was building it. If you deroot the phone with gingerbreak and try to reroot with the esteem one click zergrush method it will fail. This bothered me as its clear to me something was done in the rooting process that edited the method of rooting from the traditional method. From what I've read about su updating it fails because of two reasons. The device being S-On (Security On (Not allowing access to the editing of system files while the system is booted forcing a flash of system changes from Recovery)) or the superuser rights being installed in /sbin.

"The issues that people are having are, for the most part, down to using an outdated binary. With the last couple versions, I tried to remove the requirement to have the latest binary, since there are so many people out there that either have some form of write protection on their system partition at runtime (S-ON), or have the su binary installed in /sbin. Both of these things make it impossible for me to update the binary.

S-ON is easy, since those users can simply download the latest version through ROM Manager, or from this site and flash via recovery mode. This will install the latest binary, and fix the problems.

People with the su binary located in /sbin have a much tougher time. I’ve found that these are mostly Samsung users (with the notable exception of the Nexus S). I don’t know why it’s done this way, and if anybody does know, please let me know, but for some reason kernel and ROM devs for these devices put su in /sbin. /sbin is part of the boot.img, and therefore any modifications to that directory will be erased on boot." - Quoted from the guy who created the superuser.apk ChainsDD

My guess is this rom is the latter (/sbin). I know its not S-On as I attempted to flash the .zip of the binaries and that worked...horribly. It forced a change in the binaries that derooted my device. You also cant reroot at that point because of the fail of the zergrush method. I don't know if you noticed but theres an added app shortcut/app that allows for software updating in your app drawer following the install of this rom. I've posted several times in here asking about updating the su binaries and received no response any of the times I asked. I'm just one of those people that always want to push my device and try to figure out everything I can about it. I love this phone and I enjoy this rom, I just didn't appreciate the lack of explanation or the lack of our ability to deroot and reroot this device if needed. This is not to knock jon...I appreciate greatly his work on this device. Though, a little fyi there are 3 forums working on custom roms for this device. This is the only one I've found that happens to have an available rom, but its not the only one that is developing such.

Now to answer your question... I restored the backup image I made prior to installing this rom. Simple as that. What I've found is that the stock rom is simply a little laggier and the battery life is a little worse. If you want to have the same setup as this rom without the added headache of struggling to update your su binaries. Flash your backup and use TitaniumBackup to remove the bloat. Simple as that. You'll have similar battery life without the changes to partitions.

Follow the sticky at the top of this section of the forum for creating a ClockWorkMod Custom Recovery. And then boot into recovery (shut the phone down completely. Hold in the Home Button, the volume down on the volume rocker on the side, and the Power Button at the top until the phone boots into recovery. Scroll down to backup/restore and its pretty intuitive from there. You can use the slider keyboard to make selections or the volume rocker to go up and down and then the camera button to select. Good luck though its pretty easy to do.

Um. there is MORE space due to the fact that this ROM was ripped from stock. I did not debloat the ROM. Other than that you are correct this ROM will be faster and better battery life. If you have issues with your internal memory I would wipe everything and start fresh. That is not how this ROM works. Remove used space, yes... Add more bloat on top of a STOCK ROM, HELL NO

If anyone else has an issue I will just remove my work from this forum and you all can make your own ROM. This is the last time ill develop for this phone. Nobody contributes and everyone flames for no reason. In fact. I am done...

Im removing the ROM and you all can have a good day.
