ROM Manager: Will I be able to download JB off of it?

Hey dmmarck,

Got a question for ya. We rooted my phone. We both know I'm pretty stupid when it comes to rooting and hacking. If I wanted to just wait for the OTA, can I still get it even though I'm rooted?

My other question is this- I have ROM Manager and was wondering if there is a JellyBean ROM that you're aware of in it? I still don't feel comfortable attempting to install JB yet off of the forums.

Thanks!

Hey all,

I am a noobie to this too, I used WUGs to root and unlock... I have only been rooted and unlocked for 2 months, started with Liquid and moved to AOKP b38. I was hesitant to jump to JB but I did it. I followed dmm guide to a T, with the wipes, etc. flashed the JB 1.9 and gapps. I did my first dirty flash to JB2.2 and gapps proper 7-4. I have no issues and i no longer use RM, i just power down, and hold the vol and power button to get into recovery and wipe than flash.
its not that hard, and these guys are on top of there game.
The most nerve racking part for me is the length of the reboot.

Dont wait the JB port by Jake is awesome. I am also using the stock kernel. You'll be glad you did the upgrade. Lets put it this way.....
I have to but a nexus for my wife now that she has seen what the phone can do.:D

The worst that will happen from what I have read is you will need to use WUGS or go back to stock if you really screw it up.

I understand it's available online. Is it available on ROM Manager? That's my only question.

It is not (I don't think)...

@Xanth.. love the enthusiasm (really do :) ) But still I recommend newer flashers do not flash the ports available now. The JB ROMs now are nandroid ports of a pre-release OS for different hardware.... They are inherently unstable due to everything bolded there, lol, things can go wrong, and if they do you want to have at least a rudimentary understanding of how to fix it. Of course we're all here to help, but it would be better to avoid sticky situations for someone completely new to this, and just wait until something built from source and a bit more stable becomes available in a few weeks :)

When you are ready to flash some stuff Murph, I'm always going to recommend you learn to use recovery and to flash things from there. You move all the files you need (the ROM, Gapps, Kernels, whatever else) to your phone, reboot to recovery, and flash from within.

Davey I know you will perpetually be the thorn in my side on this (in good spirit).. but you can agree anyone should at least learn to use and be comfortable with recovery before putting the training wheels back on and using ROM Manager. Because if things ever go wrong you will find yourself needing to use recovery or fastboot to fix it, and ROM Manager likely won't be available to you. Just something to keep in mind.

Don't feel overloaded for now :)

I'm rooted. I just want to know if anyone has knowledge of JellyBean existing in ROM Manager, and if so, where is it and how does it run?

As I said earlier in the thread, the Vicious Jelly Bean ROM is in ROM Manager. Just go to the downloads area.

Murph, I agree with 2def and davey about waiting.

I have been flashing these ports and kernels knowing full well what I'm getting myself into. I've softbricked phones before. It's not that big of a deal. It freaks you out a bit the first time, but once you work through it, the next time isn't as scary.

I say wait for source. All you're going to have available to you in the meantime (through RM or anywhere), are ports. They are risky, some things don't work, and you may brick if something goes awry.

Until you're really comfortable with everything, don't worry about it. Keep in mind that anything you see on RM right now is also a port. There's not a single ROM built from 4.1 source right now, no matter what someone calls it.

Like has been said, when you're ready, there are plenty of people willing to help out. In the meantime, practice doing things through recovery. There's nothing wrong with using RM, if you know what to do without it.

Have fun, dude. Happy flashing.

So what is the right way to flash using ROM Manager?

Please read what I said above... its imperative that you learn to use recovery to flash and troubleshoot before you start relying on ROM Manager (which I recommend you never ever use anyway). This means have some successful flashes using recovery first. Also advised you not to jump in and flash the JB ports until you were sure of what you were doing and how to do it... Not trying to scold you, think of it as tough love, lol. We enjoy helping and giving advice here and even walking you through things (as you know) when it has to be done.. but you need to help too :)

My phone is back to 4.0.4.. I just need someone experienced in ROM Manager to help me.

I'm not stressing the fact that you need to use recovery to torture you... you really need to get comfortable with it and learn to flash using it before you can use ROM Manager. You shouldn't even use ROM Manager at all, to be honest. Any time you ever have to troubleshoot you will likely have no access to it and you will need to use recovery.
