I just got my Fascinate and rooted it, Installed ROM Manager(v2.5.0.2) (Premium/Paid).

Apparently just by using the ROM Manager "Flash ClockworkMod" option, I have flashed CWM without the need for Odin
CWM - Backup not showing under Management

I have not attempted to flash any ROM's yet, and would just like to mention this, and see if anyone else can replicate this.
I figured this is worth exploring, to see if others can do this too, as from what I've researched the need for Odin to install/flash CWM hampers efforts if you don't have a Windows PC like me(I run Ubuntu 10.10).

soo... anyone else willing to try this to see if it works for them?
According to Kevin Gossett getting GREEN text when you reboot to recovery mode will verify that ClockworkMod is installed correctly.

If all you did was hit the "flash CWM" button in ROM manager, you don't have CWM recovery.

I thought so too, but ikrel was able to make a backup successfully and boot into CWM recovery...

As a test, I was successfully able to load/Install one of jtll34 super clean Roms, and restore to my backup with all data intact.
I think, everything went through without any errors, and I booted to a clean install.

Have to admit that I was nervous, and I got a little sketchy when i saw my apps all gone, and restored right away.... damn that was scary... but i guess it always is the first time. :)

I was able to boot to the samsung recovery menu and selected "apply update.zip" to get to the CWM menu. And I had to move my backup from /sdcard/sd to /sdcard because CWM didn't see it at first.

I will attempt this again tomorrow, and see if I can gather any proof of my accomplishments, as I didn't even look into what I booted into upon restart..... damn nerves.. lol

Strange..

Anyway, doing this again as proof would require restoring your stock kernel and recovery partitions.. Then re-doing your "flash" from ROM manager and seeing if (at the very least) your stock kernel partition was over-written with the modified CWM kernel.

If it's working, and you simply reboot into CWM recovery, that's not proving much, other than CWM recovery works. :)

Regardless of if Telus has done something strange, or how CWM got on your device, it seems to be working, so good for you. :)

Telus must have done something with theirs. Just tried on my VZW Fascinate and nada.

does this really work? i have a telus fascinate and i have been having a hell of a time flashing clockwork through odin

It did for me that's all i can say:

I rooted the phone
installed titaniumbackup - and installed .zip file via "created update.zip" option.
installed clockworkmod and flashed with the option in the app.
rebooted into recovery via clockwork menu, and applied update.zip
rebooted and went from there. backups, and restoring with both apps seem to go through without a hitch.. good luck.

all apps were the paid version

I also got paid versions of these apps and tried the same methods you have listed, unfortuneatley get the "E:Failed to verify whole-file signature..blah blah blah" error after i rebooted into recovery via clockwork menu, and applied update.zip.

Anyhow, good for you man wish it worked for me too lol.
