[ROM]Mostly Stock EI22 | Update 4 11/12

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

I just wanna let everyone know that I was running Thunderhawk 1.1 and all I had to do was 3x clean data/cache/dalvik and flash the file found at the begining of this thread and my EI22 is working perfectly. I love this update, but I gotta say i never thought it would ever come. So, good luck everyone. Time to rub it in the faces of people that have phones runing Froyo :)

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

Paul627g, I used your EC05x_DXC.tar on my phone because you have it fixed so it would install without wiping anything.

The main reason I used that was so I could use the SPX stock apps remover to get rid of some of the bloatware.

Can I upgrade over that with your release of Gingerbread? Your FroYo release worked slick as can be. :)

I left it with the CWM you included, after having problems from trying to update the CWM version.

If you going to flash this CWM version of Official GB then yes, as long as CWM doesn't kick it back it should flash.

If your attempting to do a plain stock OTA/manual "update.zip" upgrade to Gingerbread while using the old Froyo Pre-rooted Odin package then no it won't accept the update.

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

Just for information's sake, the wife's phone was rooted and running EH17, did full wipe and CWM flashed this with no issues. Thanks for supplying this ROM. Finally no more random reboots, dropping of the area code on SMS, and fewer complaints from the wife. Yay!

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

First impressions:

First of all, it's rock solid. Wifi locks perfectly, gps is fast, video - no worries. Everything works. I will test 4G in a couple of hours.

That said, my Quadrant Benchmark is about 1400 which is not bad but not the screaming 2K's I was pulling with CM7.

There is still a lot of crap I want to get rid of. It's nice that the obvious bloatware comes out easily but theres a lot of obscure crap that is hard to identify whether I am freezing or deleting. I can't get rid of Media Hub, when I move the APK it sets up a FC loop. Also want to dump the Downloads app, Gmail, Google search, Lattitude, Maps, Navigation, Sprint Hotspot. What are their system names? Does anyone know?

I know there are already a few EXT4 ROMs I have posted here.. Worth a look..

Names of some of those files you want to remove...

Download APP > DownloadProvider.apk & DownloadProviderUi.apk (don't quote me on these so make a backup of them just incase)
Gmail > Gmail.apk
Google Search > GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
Lattitude > Street.apk (??? make a backup just incase)
Maps > Maps.apk
Navigation > Not sure ATM
Sprint Hotspot > Not sure ATM

FYI, I normally will use EX File Explorer to rename the APKs I want to remove to xxxxx.apk.bak just to make sure there is no conflicts from removing them. This way if something goes nuts you can simply rename/remove the ".bak" extension to restore the app to fix the problem. Once you have confirmed things are running okay with the app "disabled by adding the .bak" extension then you can delete it if you wish.

I am using SDX stock app remover and freezing with Mybackup Pro but Paul, a lot of these apps have been renamed or bundled into a package that is unrecognizable to me. Also, if I try to move MediaProvider.apk, I get a FC loop that never stops. It MUST be in the app folder.

I'm mobile right now but when I get home I'll see what I can do to help.

Thanks Paul,

Here is a list of things I can't identify to get rid of, i think they are bundled but I am not sure of the configurations so I am scared to delete.

Media Hub (Media Provider)
Latitude (are these bundled with maps?)
Navigation
Places
Sprint Hotspot
Gmail
Voice Dialer
Voice Search

BTW Paul, CM& had a wallpaper I really liked called "Less Than Mono" (or somethign like that) anyway to pull that out and use it with stock GB? I am assuming that battery mods will be coming soon too.

Cheers and thanks. T

I gave this ROM a pass because it's not using the stock kernel. Was hoping for a GB done just like Paul's FroYo EC05.

Sooo, I Odined back to stock FroYo then use the stock Sprint GB update. Had to take the battery out to get stock FroYo back on.

Of course the app I used to backup my contacts, logs and texts couldn't import to GB what it had exported from FroYo - leading to me finding out that Google still has no clue about making contacts backup and synchronizing *simple and easy*. Fortunately I hadn't yet wiped my old LifeDrive.

SMS Backup and Restore is an excellent free app for handling your sms/txt. It saves them right to your sdcard so you can restore them later... Use it many times..

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

Fortunately I wrote down anything critical I had in text messages and only had three Memos. Getting the contacts sorted was an adventure, did the phone ever backup anything to Google? Not one thing.

Market didn't remember any of my apps. Amazon Appstore remembered everything, including apps I don't ever want to download again, that I'd like to remove from its list. They're all free ones.

Palm and iPhone and I presume Blackberry have had backup and synching well sorted for years. What's Google's excuse? $^^##$^ the cloud, give us an Android Desktop program that backs up everything like Palm Desktop.

Contacts should be synchronized both ways, with thumbnail images and ringtone assignments preserved. The user should never have to resort to exporting and importing VCF files from both ends then having to do a lot of editing and joining to fix things.

*sigh* Now I wait for a root and recovery setup that hacks GB's automatic recovery replacement so it won't get wiped out when the phone reboots.

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

I rooted both of my Epics nearly a year ago, so I have a little experience with customizing my phones, but this is the first time that I have installed anything but the stock operating system. After installing this version with nubernel 2.6.35.7, my phones are noticeably more responsive and the battery is lasting noticeably longer.

The kernel that I have installed is using "ondemand" as the default CPU governor. Is it by the very fact that it's there, doing it's thing, or do I have to install an app to take advantage of it's capabilities?

Thanks!

SetCPU from the Market or other equivalent app from the Market... Just search kernel, cpu, etc... Plenty free stuff out there doing basically the same thing allowing you to control the governor, overclocking, undervolting, etc of the processor via the kernel.

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

Help! I was on a rooted ec05 without any custom roms and then downloaded the zip and flashed with cwm and am rebooting. But it's stuck on the Samsung screen and isn't doing anything for ten minutes already. What do I do?

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

Pull the battery and plug into USB on your PC. Hold 1 down and then hold Power until it shows the Loading screen.

Run Odin 1.85 and install a STOCK EC05 ROM. SPH-D700-EC05-8gb-REL.tar <-search for that
Then you can apply the Gingerbread update, which will not work on EC05 that has been modified in any way.

The Gingerbread update is a PATCH, not a full ROM. From what it put on screen while installing, it looks like some EC05 files were just patched, some got completely replaced and some completely new things (like Google Books) were installed.

That's why the update is only ~85 meg instead of almost 300 meg like the full stock EC05 ROM.

I have heard of overclocking, but what is undervolting? Is there a tutorial I can read?

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

I have a question regarding deodexed ei22 modem. after i updated via zip from eh17... i noticed after a few hours that the clock on my epic with change ahead 1 to 2 hrs. has anyone else had this problem? and has it been fixed? if so, what was done to fix the time problem. other than that, i love it.

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

This is working out great for me so far. I flashed the EI22 modem too. In my car I could only make one call via the bluetooth before, but that is fixed now. Battery life and bluetooth range good too. Thanks to Paul for posting and everyone at XDA who did the work.

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

Undervolting is a combination of two things...

1. lowering the processor clock speed from the normal 100-1000 mhz to say 100-800 mhz..
2. along with lowering the max end processor speed depending on the governor settings & whatever settings the kernel dev set things at it lowers the amount of juice going to the processor to conserve battery. Plus you can also manually control the voltage, but that is something that should be done with care because it can and will cause FC's or lockups if not done right or just by simply experimenting..
