[ROM]Mostly Stock EI22 | Update 4 11/12

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

I've been running this GB from the OP since it became available. Overall I've been happy with it.

However, I've noticed that my phone randomly reboots itself. I've caught it doing it twice over the last few days. Most recently I heard the little "startup jingle" it plays on reboot, and caught it in a reboot.

Re: [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

If you have done your backups with Titanium then you should be good to go... Once your up and running re download Titanium and I suggest doing a DATA ONLY restore to your backups... Different OS/ different app updates... This will result in less conflicts.

You can make a Nandroid Backup in CWM just incase something goes wrong you can wipe everything and restore the backup.

Otherwise... Choose install zip from CWM and let her rip!

Good luck.

I am currently running SFR 1.1.1 on my phone and have not done anything to the phone since I first installed that about 6 months ago, so my "skills" are pretty rusty.

If I want to update to gingerbread WITHOUT losing everything, I just
:
1. Open Titanium Backup, press menu button and select BATCH, the BACKUP ALL SYSTEM AND USER DATA, RUN, RUN THE BATCH OPERATION.
2. When that finishes, I download this file [Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable, save it to my memory card in the root folder.
3. Make sure that it is named update.zip
4. reboot the phone with the 3-buttons depressed
5. Using the up/down buttons I navigate to run update.zip and run it
6. Phone reboots and I download Titanium Backup from the market
7. Restore Data Only with TB
8. Done

Is that correct, or am I missing something?

Pretty much... You can always grab MyBackup Root as an alternative... I usually do both just incase one fails I have something else to fall back on.. Plus I like the "one click" deal with MyBackup....

As far as the CWM flashable that you download from the link in the OP here, you can leave it named as it is when you download it. You just select in CWM (Install Zip from sdcard) and it will allow you to search your sdcard for it... This way you know what that file is on your sdcard and not just "update.zip"

But you have the right idea and your method will work fine if you decide to say "Hey Paul your nuts man... Your confusing me.. " LOL....

I understand, my feelings will not be hurt I just like to give you all options and heads up that I didn't necessarily get when I was learning the ropes....

Two more questions, do I need to do the wipe like he mentions in the video?

And will I need to upgrade the modem or does the update 4 have the new modem?

So I followed the steps that 5111 outlined and it seems that everything is good to go, looks like I still have all my texts, apps, settings, etc without having to do a TB restore. My only question is that my baseband version still shows as S:D700.0.5S.EC05. I noticed in the video from XDA that there would be a video about updating the modem to EI22 which xBTx recommended. Am I just missing the video in the threads somewhere and is this really necessary? I'd appreciate any input on this. Thanks.

Well, maybe I didn't because again, I'm an idiot.

Here was my question:

You can now just flash the modem in CWM. Here's the post that leads you to a file and a video. Worked for me:

I'm still running SFR 1.1.1 and want to update to EI22 and run [ROM]ACS ICS v3.5 (noCiQ)[EI22]
Do I need to update to EI22 before flashing the ROM?

I also have found Journaling On to be the best option for me on previous ROMs, so I plan to flash the Journaling On zip, but do I need to boot up the phone and make sure that it is running okay first?

So, do I:
A. flash EI22 update, Flash ROM, flash Journaling On, and then reboot?
or
B: flash ROM, flash Journaling ON, and reboot?
or
C. flash EI22, reboot, flash ROM, reboot, flash Journaling On, reboot?

believe you flash either the mostly stock file or the acs rom to get EI22. You shouldn't need to rename the file. I just used the option in CWM to load a zip from the SD card and picked it from the list. Also, you'll need to redownload apps from market or amazon before restoring data. Rebuilding the phone takes a little time.

Did I do something wrong that I loaded the rom through CWM and didn't lose any of my data, apps, etc even though my settings show I'm on GB?

I did the same thing and it seems to be working fine, although I haven't really played much with it. I wiped the Dalvik Cache, but not data.

I am noticing one other thing over the last couple nights. When I go to bed my battery charge is around 75%. By the time I get up in the morning (around 8 hours later) my battery has hit the 35-40% range. I have wi-fi on, but no 4G and nothing else going on (that I'm aware of) other then email notifications, etc. Has anyone else run into this? If not, suggestions for finding out what might be eating through my battery overnight? Thanks.

You installed update.zip like you would any other patch or hack in a zip? Well poop, wish I'd have known that a whole lot sooner, then I wouldn't have had to wipe the phone putting it back to stock EC05.

Did that also update the modem?

I had a pre-rooted EC05 on mine that was setup to go in with Odin without losing anything, and it did. It did not like any CWM version other than what was bundled into it.

Anyway, I have GB and have it rooted and most of the Sprint bloatware yanked out and it's all good. :)

And will I need to upgrade the modem or does the update 4 have the new modem?

I have the same questions. I'm not completely sure when a wipe is necessary before installing a ROM. It seems like it's a good idea, to help clear things up before updating or changing ROMs, but it shouldn't be required all the time, right? I mean, Sprint pushed out Froyo and Gingerbread updates, and I doubt most users wiped their phones before installing them. A little more info here could be helpful.

I'm curious about the modem too, especially since there's now a MostlyStock Rebuild from 11/17. I don't see specific mention of the modem though. I guess it's easy enough to flash the EI22 modem if it's not in there, but I'd kind of hope that it was included in the rebuild. Does anyone know for sure?

Also, I saw mention of only doing data restores from Titanium Backup (or the like). Did that only apply for people moving from Froyo to Gingerbread? If I made my backup in Gingerbread, can I restore the apps and data if I need/want to (e.g., because I wiped and installed a ROM)?

Thanks for your help.

I had this issue on Froyo. I'm not sure what fixed it. Could have been an update. Check all your programs and choose long refresh intervals where possible. You can use something like OS Monitor to see what is running on your phone. You can delete stuff and see if it helps. That's one advantage of the wipe before install. I'm gradually restoring apps, so if I see a battery hit, I'll know it is something I just put back on. Since wipe and upgrade to GB, battery life is great--around 5% or less drop overnight.

Yes, I downloaded the file mentioned in the OP and went through the update process using CWM and boom, was done in about 10 minutes.

No, the modem update was a separate update file.

Ok, after playing with eacher revision of the Mostly Stock EI22, and after reading nubecoder's feature list on the latest revision of nubernel, I can contribute the following:

nubecoder stated that the video recorder is broken in the "rebuilt" version, but he didn't know if it was broken in the stock Gingerbread release. I know for a fact that it was working in the first revision of his software using the older version of nubernel.

I really like this ROM. I hope he can figure out the video recorder issue. With 7 kids, I use the video recorder on a regular basis.

Thanks! This is a great ROM!

Crap, I guess I shouldn't be doing this kind of thing at night after I've had a few glasses of scotch. My version of CWM didn't have the same options that qbking's video did so I didn't think I had the wipe function. I guess the version he's using has it bundled into doing the update process. So I guess I need to go back and do the wipe and install to see how it goes with the battery after I start restoring applications.

Windfrenzy, did you use the wipe data/factory reset option?
