[ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider

I did read the instructions, and I know to effing install a ROM. And I did lose a ton of apps due to the library links being broken with Link2SD. Please, unless you know how to prevent this from happening with Link2SD installed (which you really can't without backing up apps with Titanium Backup, gutting the data, and reinstalling the apks after you flash the ROM), move along.

Then why haven't I lost anything after flashing the ROM a few times to bring me up to safepoint after developing when I messed something up?

It does clearly state we DO NOT need to wipe/restore. Just clear caches.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

is there anything new for this ROM coming out of the pipe anytime soon?

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

just flashed the ROM and the kernel. This is my first time doing this to an android phone and everything worked as explained. Bluetooth headset is working like it did before hand.

I'm hoping that I also see two bugs fixed that were bothering me. The wifi drops that others have described and a memory bloat problem with Contacts Storage. I'll update later with how that is affected by the ROM. Thanks Kevin and the kernel programmer, I can't remember his name at the moment.

Oh, people are having the wifi drop problem too? I thought it was just me and my Y5 Battery Save app. Good to know it's not my phone being defective.

I decided to give this rom another shot, it actually works great now in comparison to before. This is good stuff, looking forward to more future updates if it seems necessary. I'm finally satisfied with what I have, thank you :)

I did some testing and found its a combination of battery saving programs that toggle data on and off, and gingerkernel. Whether on the stock rom or Gelato, wifi hangs after phone goes standby with juice defender etc. enabled.

I never have to complain about battery life anymore, I just started using my phone more efficiently and calibrate it every once in a while. This is how I usually use my device:

Airplane Mode when I'm traveling and don't have to contact anyone
Wifi when it's available (kills 3G, uses less power)
Screen brightness is set to the lowest setting
CPU frequency is set to max 800 mhz min 320 MHz, the governor is set to InteractiveX, allows device to enter Idle and Deep Sleep when screen is off
I spend like an equivalent of 3 hours browsing the web and chatting with friends family and I mainly use Google Voice instead of my real number
I keep data sync on
I usually use around 10 minutes a day on phone calls, at other times I use GrooVe IP

This all leaves me with around 30%-20% at the end of the day. I'm going to wipe my battery stats again tomorrow if I remember to do so and I will post up more accurate results.

By the way, I'm using this rom with GingerKernel installed.

Why would you wipe your battery stats? I've heard its bad for your phone

Interesting, thanks. It's not really a big deal as I can just drag down the notification bar and tap the WiFi for it to turn off, and the Y5 Battery app just reconnects to the WiFi in less than a second and it works fine again.

Hi folks!
I am new to the whole phone cracking scene but I have a lot of experience with cracking and flashing from PSP's. Pretty much the same thing.

I'm about to flash this ROM and just had 1 question before I did.

Can I still use apps from the Android Market on this ROM? Or do I lose compatibility for everything on the market?

The market app is included and works just fine. Everything works in this build as it should. Enjoy!

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

Awesome! Can't wait to actually use this phone without it dying in 3 hours from it sitting in my pocket... Lol.

Now how much of a chance is there to brick the phone while installing? I know I have to get the battery to 100%, wipe the cache and delvik cache, and then install the ROM from the zip file in recovery.

If I follow those procedures I shouldn't end up with a bricked phone correct?

You're supposed to flash it over a stock rom. Reinstall the stock rom and only wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache partitions then install this rom.

Ok, I am such a noob. You don't even know haha, I just got this phone a week ago, I love tweaking things and making electronics as fast as possible without overclocking I hate that. Now I am trying to install this rom:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/vi...elato-11-28-virgin-mobile-optimus-slider.html

I don't understand what "flash it" means and I don't have a custom recovery image. I am like reading latin for half of the post. So can you please help me with noob proof message haha? I just need links on what to download, exactly how to put it, and what to do with it. Thanks so much.

And believe me, I have spent all day (10 hours so far) trying to figure out how to flash and get a custom recovery thing, and there is NOTHING for an optimus slider (virgin mobile).

There's a noob proof thread for that in this forum. Just read the threads first before you post in here.
Its under how to custom recovery and backup.
Step by step instructions.
But even before you can do that you need to obtain root. Which there is also a thread. So in this order you will need to do things before you can flash this rom and or drews gingerkernel.
1. Obtain root.
2. Custom recovery and backup.
3. flash the rom and or kernel (your choice) kernel is not needed but it will speed up your phone a bit.
4. (Optional) you may then flash a theme to your phone. As of right now there are two themes. My theme I made (ICS) and there is also an "mean green" theme.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

Is it just me or was this ROM supposed to have the added Hotspot function under Wireless & Networks? Went to try making a hotspot and the option wasn't at the bottom anymore. No widgets or anything work anymore. Does this mean I'm not rooted or something, lol?
