[ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider

well i cant seem to figure this out i was trying to use rom manager but it dosent have my phone listed. So what is the method for installing this?

Place zip to root of sd card. Go into recovery. Clear cache. Go to advanced and clear dalvik-cache.
Install zip from sd. Select the zip folder you wish to flash (gelato ROM 11 28) after it installs reboot your phone from the recovery.

Its pretty straight forward lol

Also. You may want to backup your phone first. Just in case :p which can also be done from the recovery. Its listed in one of the options in there.

Ahhhh. You need a CUSTOM recovery.
You're using the stock recovery.
Just install the custom recovery then try flashing the ROM.

Another thing is, you haven't already you will need to root your phone first, in order to be able to do any of this.
If you would read in the forum threads there's a thread for obtaining root and getting custom recovery for your phone.
Do that first and then come back if your still having issues flashing the ROM.

You'll need to install the custom recovery yourself.
When you root your phone, that doesn't mean you'll automatically have a custom recovery.
If that clears up anything for anyone that reads this.

Great ROM i love it! how was that notification bar toggles added on the rom, thats the coolest feature i have seen. and can they be set to different ones or are they preset

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

awesome ROM it totally made things smoother and run better n longer thanks a bunch! :)

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

I am pretty impressed with this ROM. I have noticed an extra bit of speed, which does help a lot. I used put my phone on the charger after a 16 hour day, with about 10% charge left. Now, after the same 16 hour day, I can put it on the charger at 30%.

I don't think you did anything wrong, your phone is up and running. If you messed up somewhere it probably wouldn't have booted. Re-read the instructions on installing the hydro ROM if you're unsure.

As far as benchmarks are concerned, I wouldn't worry so much. Just because it scored lower on a benchmark doesn't necessarily mean the performance is also lower or worse during real-world use. Custom ROMs and kernels may not interact correctly with some apps.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

yea i added the new kernel and it did a much better job the reason it was scoring low on the benchmark, was that i had underclocked it to save battery, thanks

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

I have a dilemma that I'm hoping I can get some help addressing. I have my Optimus Slider rooted and with the customer recovery per KSmithInNY's instructions, and it has worked perfectly. I usually have over 200 MB of internal memory free and 80-90 MB of internal storage free, using Link2SD to move everything to my SD card. Even with things running well, I thought it was time to install the Team Hydro Gelato ROM. I backed everything up in Recovery, wiped the cache, then wiped the dalvik cache, and finally installed the Gelato zip file from my SD card. After the install was completed, I rebooted the phone.

Things looked great . . . until the phone was back up. First, I had to remount the ext partition for Link2SD (not thought to be an issue . . . I did it this with my VM Intercept all the time when I installed a fresh ROM). After that reboot, I thought everything was back up, until I noticed that certain apps no longer functioned or even showed up on the phone. No widgets worked, and apps like Market, Maps, and others were completely gone. I could install some of these back from Titanium Backup, but my main question is where did these go? I haven't seen anyone else have this problem in this thread, but I wanted to know if this is an issue others have noticed.

I restored my phone back to its previous condition without a problem and tried the process again. This time, before I rebooted after the Gelato ROM installation, I flashed the latest Gingerkernal zip (again, per instructions) and rebooted the system. I again had to mount the ext partition for Link2SD, and once back in the phone, I again had missing apps and widgets. Only this time, the set of missing apps was different than the first go around (in the paragraph above).

Anyone have an idea what's causing this or how to fix it? I have all my apps backed up with Titanium Backup and can flash the Stock ROM and go from there, but I really wanted to be able to get the ROM installed with minimal effort. Maybe that's not possible, I don't know. I"m not sure if LInk2SD and having most of the apps on my SD card is causing an issue . . . it might be. Anyway, your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, folks.

UPDATE: It does appear to be an issue with Link2SD and Gingerbread. You have to re-link the Dalvik cache libraries. Still, even when doing this, I have lots of missing apps, and even after restoring them, I have much less internal storage than prior to installing the ROM. Just curious if anyone else is using Link2SD and having similar issues. Thanks again.

@The_Weeze, when I installed the custom Hydro LG L55C rom, I noticed that apps on the sd card didn't show up either. I could very well be completely wrong with what I'm about to tell you, but when you move an app from the Internal Memory to the SD Card theres still application data saved on the phone. If you look at the size of the file before moving and after moving in your all applications list it greatly reduces but doesn't zero out. I think that what happens is, the apps aren't completely moved to the SD card. I think that some of the core parts of the application are usually saved on the phones internal memory with the bulk of the extras being on the SD Card. Now I could be completely wrong about that.

What I've found works best for me when flashing ANY rom, is to backup my essential apps with Titanium Backup. Then I backup my music, any rom.zips, and my clockworkmod backups to the Computer. What I do next is reboot into recovery. Wipe all data, cache, and delvik cache then proceed to flash the rom. When the phone reboots, I unmount the SD Card, erase all data, and proceed to restore my Music to the SD Card (here you could also restore your recovery but I have so much music on my 4gb SD that I'm really just trying to keep space.). At this point I run titanium backup and restore all my apps to the phones Internal Memory. At this point I move all the apps I can to the phones SD Card. I then restart whatever launcher I'm using (I personally use adw, GO seems to cluttered on these screens). I like to use Android Assistant and sdmaid to keep my phone uncluttered, but using the method described above I have no problems accessing my apps.

I wrote this without ever using a VM Slider or this rom in particular. But, IME with Hydro Roms the method above seems to work best. My advice is to temporarily fill you internal memory up when you flash, and try to start from scratch...just backup/restore with Titanium Backup. Good luck!

Big thanks for that feedback, jcole20. With my Intercept, because I had to use Link2SD to get the apps I wanted installed and have internal storage still available, your method is exactly what I did. I found that I always had to wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache and start fresh. The Team Hydro Gelato ROM seems to be in the same mold. That's not a problem, but I'm glad someone else clarified the issue. I went and restored the phone back to the pre-ROM condition, and I'm still very happy with its speed, so I doubt I go through the purge-and-redo method to get this ROM + apps installed . . . just didn't see enough game changing wow factor with it. It is a good ROM and great effort, nonetheless.

Thanks again, jcole20.

You don't wipe data for this ROM.
Try reading the instructions.
You don't lose anything when flashing.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slid

I have been using the ROM for a few days. Before the ROM, my slider would have trouble with WIFI connections, i would have to disable wifi and turn it back on. This ROM has fixed it, it connects fine and don't have any problems.
My battery life has been great...used to be under 50% before the ROM on 16 hours, now it is at about 70% after 16 hours...could easily last two days
Only thing that I notice is the CPU speed adjustment, I notice when it sleeps, it goes into the lowest CPU setting and takes a while for it to go to full 800MHz...not sure if there are settings or an app that can change this?
Overall, great job!!

I did read the instructions, and I know to effing install a ROM. And I did lose a ton of apps due to the library links being broken with Link2SD. Please, unless you know how to prevent this from happening with Link2SD installed (which you really can't without backing up apps with Titanium Backup, gutting the data, and reinstalling the apks after you flash the ROM), move along.
