[ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider

Have you uploaded the stock rom yet?
I'm getting extremely annoyed as to why I have so much choppiness in animations and such and I'm determined to get to the bottom of it lol

Nope. Stay with me here lol. I'm working on keeping everyone happy which includes spending time with the girl. I'll pull out the laptop and start a build.

" Installed flash Player: None (or disabled)"

OK, your experiencing a bug that comes with this version of flash. Sometimes the phone stops recognizing it. I'll post the apk, download and install it then check again.

I'll attach it to this post so check back in a couple min.

EDIT - Attached. This is an inherent problem with forcing something, in this case flash, to do a task it's not designed to do like use a processor it's not designed for, you sometimes have bugs. The reason i was able to identify this so quickly is because i've seen many people on several different arm6 devices having this problem. That's another reason for me to remove it, I'm busy enough supporting my own work let alone other peoples projects lmfao :p

Awesomee :D
thanks
Like its so bad I had to turn animations off xD
I'm gonna see if just adding drews kernel to stock changes anything
like it works ok for the first 5 mins of new a flash but then it returns to the wa it was before
it sounds like a bug or some kind of memory leak happening?

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-19

thanks. I searched and found FP 10.3 on the Optimus S forum and loaded it. Now flash player is working and recognised.

If i recall, you had one hell of a stock pile of cache you were backing up. When you say after a clean flash, that means you havent filled up that /cache directory right? I know you were experiencing the issue with 2 pure stock, un-touched phones running wide open at 800MHz, and the problem persists on a rooted phone with a custom ROM and kernel .....

Have you tried the following:
1) What happens if you do a full wipe of your phone from recovery. Start fresh with a fresh flash of the rom, and the custom kernel. Don't start installing apps or restoring anything at all. Sign into gmail or whatever else but basically don't install anything or restore anything. Let it run and see how you like it. Actually if you're going to install any app install setcpu or a similar program and change the gov to InteractiveX which snaps to 800 when awake. The point is to remove your data and apps from being part of the issue as much as possible.

Assuming you do this, and things don't run smoothly, the only thing i can think of is your expectations may be too high. We've been chatting for a couple days and you've been a huge help in testing so i don't mean that in an offensive way. It's just that the chances of you having 2 phones with the same defect would be slim, and myself and others are having good results.

I can say without any hesitation that this phone runs as smoothly as my Optimus S clocked up to 800MHz. It doesn't hold a candle to some of my other high end phones but I am much more happy with the optimized ROM and Drews kernel source than the original garbage provided.

I'll have a stock build up shortly in the hopes that it helps you in your search!!!

That's great, and even newer than this version! You should create a thread at least linking to the original thread here on AC so others can download and install it! As i said, I'll be removing flash from this ROM and since theres a newer version floating around, you might as well start the thread.

Well crap, it looks like i deleted my original files that i started building from. It's not a big deal, I just need someone to take the system.yaffs2.img file and boot.img out of the first backup they made after installing the custom recovery, upload them to something like dropbox or mediafire, and send me the link.

Don't worry about personal data or anything like that .... nothing personal of any way shape or form is housed in system.img or boot.img. If someone can upload those for me, i could make a stock build.

EDIT - N/M i found it. Thanks to anyone who may have been in the process of getting me links. Note to bobzhome ..... all the backups through recovery are dated 1980 in the filename

The activate app don't seem to be working any more. (It force-closes immediately when opened through the icon or tapping Activate from the ##VIRGIN# menu.) Thoughts?

Yep, noted on the page before this i think. I already have it fixed but am working on including zipalign on boot. I saw no point in releasing an update to fix that 1 apk when i could spend a couple hours extra and release an update that also includes a meaningful improvement. Thanks for letting me know though, much appreciated :D

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-19

you said that youll be able to release themes for this rom in the future, how will this be, will it be an update for the rom on a choosen them the user wants, because there no theme chooser in this rom that i can see. Just curious on how this is going to be implemented into this amazing rom.

Themes will be available as flashable zips through recovery. You will be able to download them from the Team Hydro theme thread that will be started when the ROM is ready. Download the theme from their thread, flash in recovery. If you don't like the theme, reflash the ROM overtop of itsself (dirty flash) without wiping anything and viola! Back to stock look.

HERE is a link to a thread with some themes created by Team Hydro members JonDevere and jstntp. These themes were for Froyo based ROMs but you can get a clear picture of the quality and originality of their themes.

The reason I don't want to include a themeing app is, yes it's cool and convenient, but if you can't tell by now, I'm big on believing that people should thank developers and donate whenever possible for their work. If you could download the theme through an app in the ROM, Jon and jstntp would never get any thanks or donations for their fine work. Same reason i won't include Drew's kernel with this ROM, even though it's the only kernel I'd use, he worked hard on that kernel and the guy deserves a thanks at a minimum :D When it's explained like that ... i hope it makes things clear that there is a method to my madness and not just trying to be a butthead lmfao!

Regarding your PM about tethering, i updated post #2 with this thread with instructions on how to wifi tether. It's not pretty but it does the job until native AP is enabled.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-20

New version up.
- Fixed the activation app by unfortunately moving it back to /system. It doesnt play nice in /data.
- Removed flash. Not my project so not my headache. Links a plenty can be found with a little Google fu.
- Added zipalign on boot for all apk's in /system and /data. zipalign is an archive alignment tool that provides important optimization to Android application (.apk) files. The purpose is to ensure that all uncompressed data starts with a particular alignment relative to the start of the file. Specifically, it causes all uncompressed data within the .apk, such as images or raw files, to be aligned on 4-byte boundaries. This allows all portions to be accessed directly with mmap() even if they contain binary data with alignment restrictions. The benefit is a reduction in the amount of RAM consumed when running the application. This ROM was already zipaligned prior to every release but now it will do it every time you boot your phone and even includes apps installed from the market or side loaded apps. The only downside to this is your phone will take around 10 seconds longer to boot each time but that's 10 seconds ensuring a smooth ride with every boot ;)

Enjoy!

EDIT - Wow, everyone is sleeping, a new version released and about to start testing a working version of power control notification toggles thanks to jstntp from the dev team. Tisk tisk!!

EDIT - Power control toggles done and done. To continue with the goal of this ROM in maintaining a "stock" look on any visual modifications we make, over the next day or so jstntp will be cleaning up the look of the toggles prior to release. The good news is they exist, and function which is 99.99% of the battle.

Post #2 will now contain a list of any known and confirmed bugs specific to this build. LG, VM, GB, general android bugs will not be included. If I fix their issues cool but unless I created it, its not going up. This means prior to reporting anything you should ensure the bug did not exist in the original code. You can do this by flashing the completely stock rom linked in the very bottom of post #1, and testing. Thanks in advance.

Also, note that a bug has been added to post #2 that nobody had previously reported. Root cause is known and will not be fixed unless boombuler updates source code. A sustainable work around has been provided. Given the simple work around, and the value provided by the apk that's causing the issue, which surpasses the impact of the issue, it's worth keeping.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-20

One question,
Did you chainge the speed for the window animations so that they open quicker?
I think thats causing me more of an problem lol

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-20

Since I last replied here, the following has happened.
  • Restored my stock-ish backup
  • Used Titanium to bring all my apps back
  • Diversion didn't work quite right
  • ...a restart later, it did
  • installed 11-17 version of the HydroROM (because I"m too lazy to get the latest version)
  • Diversion still worked (and then, wonder of wonders, I realized it was on the SD card. About 200KB of it... stupid wasteful Apps2SD)

...Did I mention I have Swype 3.26 and almost every app except Diversion linked to a second partition a la Link2SD? Yeah.

EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS. Diversion is weird and iffy and I don't understand it, but it's also a big 3D game that I don't especially like. My little sister does though.
