[ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-13

Hey, I just downloaded your ROM and... nice. I would feel more comfortable if the Activate app was tucked back safely in the system folder, but being rooted now that shouldn't be too difficult to change.

Will you add a reboot/recovery option in the future? That was one of the easy fixes I've seen in previous ROMs, and I was surprised you hadn't actually implemented one. Minor detail, but still.

Also, tethering doesn't seem to work with any settings... how sad :(
Hey thanks for trying it out and glad you like. Were looking into the 3-in-1 power menu, notification toggles, and a custom kernel. This stuff takes time because we all have full time jobs and families so that coupled with limited access to the device makes it slow going but none-the-less, this stuff takes time :)

Regarding tethering, wifi_tether_v3_1-beta6.apk - android-wifi-tether - WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-beta6 *** BETA *** - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting download and install that apk, Open it up, press menu, settings, change device profile, then select Optimus S. Once you launch tethering you'll get a message about updating your device profile, click cancel to the profile message.

FYI - This message was posted from my laptop, tethered to my girls Optimus slider using the above method!
Well you are definitely making progress
sliding transitions seam to be a little more fluid
however opening windows and bringing up the context menus is still choppy :/
The fact that it's improving on your device gives me great hope because I'm still convinced you have an underlying issue thats not software related. I've made the changes on my girls phone and things seem pretty smooth. It feels like the same smoothness, maybe just so very slightly less, as the Optimus S. I was the original guy to root Optimus S and developed many many projects for it so im very familiar with it's responsiveness so I speak from experience.

Awesomee
with that being said I'm pretty sure It is the phone and nothing to do with software
since you know what the optimus S looked liked when optimized
and what the slider does now
is pretty identical
is great.
that gives me great confirmation that my phone is probley just defective
since I don't get anything close, even with you tweeks, to the smoothness the optimus V had when optimized

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-13

I'm uploading a video to youtube as of now that I will link that will show just how slow and choppy my window animations are
same can be said for when I hit the menu button to pull up a menu

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-13

Well, i will say it doesn't look too buttery but i gotta admit, i was kind of expecting more lol! I certainly see the concern. Do me a favor and try a couple of different things, both at the same time if you will

1) Can you install a 3rd party launcher? I noticed you used stock home and i want to see if a 3rd party launcher works any better. I'm personally partial to ADW
2) Can you please download spare parts from the market and inside of spare parts, and turn window animation and transition animation to fast?

My GF's phone certainly seems a little more fluid, and i wouldn't compare your phone to an iphone, but my first android was the heroc which paired sense the resource hog with the underpowered 500MHz processor. NOW THAT WAS PAINFUL!!!

lol
oh trust me It looks 10 times worse in person xD
the camera adds a few FPS xDDD
but I do use ADW I just went back to stock to show you what it was pretty much like when I got it
I can take another video and post it showing you how ADW is,
lol
no difference
And thank you I will try that app

EDIT - Probably worth noting, i didn't even have the max events adjusted nor did i lock the launcher into memory. I had just flashed the original rom i posted for you to test today.

Alright,
fair enough.
it seams like your camara was a bit jittery though.
but seeing how you worked on so many projects for the optimus s and know how smooth its supposed to be, i beleave you when you tell me your gfs phone gets pretty close to that smoothness
I was thinking, because I read somewhere that the V had a modem processor that did most of the system tasks so the main processor could focus more on apps and stuff
maybe that part of my phone is deffective?
causing the extremely choppy UI
Because I was playing with a stock optimus V yesterday I have gotten for a friend and it's leaps and bounds better then the slider.
That should be the other way around >_<

Edit: Assuming that our phones still have the modem processor, which i'm sure they do seeing how the processor was upgraded from the V, and if i'm correct,
they don't exactly take stuff out that worked so well xD

i'll keep an eye on the forum as usual,
If you need me to test anything out i'll be more then happy to :D
can't wait for your next build :DDD

Thank you for the quick and easy instructions! Scary I never stumbled onto this myself.

And yeah, I have only done so much with ROM modification. The power menu addition looked easy to implement, and I might attempt it and...probably not reinvent the wheel, just give the modified file to you guys :p

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-13

dumb question, but did you update your current build with the first post? also, im only getting the extreme lag when i get a text. its wierd though it only happens every 5 or 6 text though. then back to normal. then the lock screen is a little laggy but i can manage.

Dude we are not too proud to accept help. If you can get er done that certainly helps with the process.

No i should real quick though. Just a couple small mods to improve responsiveness.

Drew cranked out a custom OC kernel so i need to put that through it's paces before he makes it publicly available but at least he got one to build!!!

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-13

That sucks man. Sounds like this just may not be the phone for you or if your patient I'm sure we'll eventually get all of LG's kinks worked out.

Re: [ROM][Team Hydro] LG VM701_Gelato 11-17

New build is up. nothing crazy just some meaningful changes.

Dalvik cache and cache wipe is necessary. This does not impact apps, texts, emails or anything else. There is no need to wipe data/factory..

Because the dalvik cache needs to rebuild, be patient on the first boot. It will sit at the LG screen for a couple minutes, then do the boot animation, then sit at the virgin logo a couple minutes. Patience is a virtue.

Awesomee bro!
and yeah I'm patient
and I'm willing to test if you like,
But do you know what the stock kernel version was from your girls phone?
because I think I either have a phone that was shipped with a early buggy version of the kernel or a newer buggy version lol
and a few people were lucky and got a bit more optimized one.
happened on the optimus V a few times,
but if you can get things optimized eventually
works for me :D

edit: and I would be more then happy to test the overclock kernel :DDD

Her kernel is the boot.img included with the ROM so unfortunately thats not it. I'm gonna try one of the kernels drew sent me now so we'll see how it goes.
