I'm a D2 noob so I'm not used to this locked down BS coming from a OG Droid.

In ROM ToolBox whats the difference between Liberty 3 and Liberty GingerBread? They both say their GB.

I just got this phone yesterday and who I got it from got a X2 before the OTA GB, its still on 2.2 so I rooted using z4. Now I'm wondering if I have to unroot, OTA GB, reroot, then start flashing ROMs? Like I said I have no clue how to flash this stuff being locked down. My buddy used to have a DX and was constantly using SBF files everytime he flashed a new ROM, didnt know if I had to do the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm about to go back to my OG already so I can flash something!!! Thanks in advance.

Liberty 3 is based off the gb system and will only flash over gb, not froyo. So to answer your question, liberty 3 is gingerbread, which you can verify in about phone (see below).

I knew that I could verify it there...just was wondering before I flashed it. I ended up going with Apex but I'm about to leave it because it is way too Vanilla.

Is the Liberty Gingerbread the froyo build then?

No, it's a gb build. The only rom I know that's gb over froyo is the cm7 build on the cm site. Every other rom requires the gb ota to flash properly.

So I can't just flash a GB ROM even if I'm already on a GB ROM? I have to SBF, ota, root, then flash different ROMs? I'm guessing I'm right but would like to verify.

Which Liberty do you prefer 3 or LGB?

I'm coming from a OG so I flashed anything and everything whenever I felt like it...

You only need to SBF if you need to go back to ota and don't have a nandroid.

If you're on GB, you can flash ANY gb rom over it with no issues, as long as you wipe data and cache beforehand.

As for Liberty 3, v2 is the newest version and is gb, so that's the one I've installed and recommend.

What I meant was I'm on Apex 2.0 which is a GB ROM, can I flash Liberty over Apex or do I have to go back to the official GB before flashing different custom ROMs?

Thanks for the help! Have you tried Liquid? I had it on my OG but had problems not receiving texts sometimes, wondering if its a bug in the D2 also.

I LOVE Liquid, but there are some issues with gps and problems keeping settings confirmed that keep me from using it daily. I was using Liquid 3.2 daily, but gps won't turn on or off without rebooting, so i can't use it daily with that glitch. Way more customizable than cm7 and better battery life too.

Yeah I love the level of customization Liquid brings and the ICS theme it has...thats too bad to hear there are those bugs I was really hoping to use that as my "go to" ROM :(

Same here. The ics theme is one of the things I loved about it, but the gps issue is a main issue that prevents me from using it daily.

Yeah that would be super annoying to me as well...I'm on the latest RevNumbers CM7 I'll report any bugs here to let you know, if you havent tried it out yet.

1217 is a solid build and you won't find any issues, other than with the camcorder. I started using the Galnet Miui build because I was getting terrible battery life with cm7 (like 6 hrs, vs 20+ hours with Miui)

Just run adw launcher; the Miui look is from the launcher, not a rom limitation. I do and it looks just like cm7 or Liquid:

This release is a port of a Moto Defy build, but I don't care. It's smooth, reliable and has wicked battery life.

Nice ima have to flash that shiz now...didnt think about throwing my adw ex over top!

You haz link? Or is it on rootz or xda? I am probably going to flash that tom for sure!!

Honestly, I didn't either, which is why I didn't flash any miui builds before now.
It's over on Rootz, under the Droid 2 Global Dev forum. Make sue you flash the add on to allow Miui settings... Otherwise you won't be able to hack the status bar like I did. There should be a link in the thread.

. 16. I didn't see any reason to flash the newer version, since it appears to be things I don't need and I saw some complain of issues upgrading.
