[ROM] TrulyEpic MMS-Fix Test Build

I actually don't mind the Sprint voicemail app. I kind of like it, but I guess that's because I've never had any visual voicemail application to begin with coming from the Palm Pre. I actually tried it today. Left myself a voicemail by calling my cell from the work phone. I was kind of disappointed in that when I called it and waited to leave a voicemail, the greeting was very um, garbled sounding.

As an update, I just got off the phone with that Sprint rep. Interestingly enough, she said she has her Epic 4g rooted and loaded a custom ROM on it also. Lol... This really sucks because I do like this ROM a lot. Not having the voicemail app working just kinda kicks me in the gut. She said I should go back to stock to see if it works again, which it probably will.

After using TrulyEpic for about 4 or 5 days I really liked the simple layout of the ROM but most importantly I really liked the AMLauncher that the dev used. I recently loaded Bonsai v1.4 up to check out my other favorite ROM and went to go load up AMLauncher but I'm not having any luck.

First, I downloaded the AMLauncher from the link you provided here in the TrulyEpic thread. Second I flashed Bonsai v1.4, booted up, shut down and went back into Clockwork to flash AMLauncher and it says everything installed correctly but when I boot up Bonsai its not there.

I believe you used it with Bonsai if I'm not mistaken, did you have any troubles? I tried re-flashing it 2 or 3 times and still no go.. I even tried using App Installer to install the AMLauncher.apk file and it even said installed but still nothing..

Any thoughts?

BTW, I noticed that update on the Quantum ROM.. Is that anything we should really be attempting at this point or is it still somewhat shaky installation? I saw people were having difficulties flashing it last night. I saw you even had a post on the dev's thread concerning it.

I actually had this problem also - apparently some built in launchers conflict with AMLauncher and mask it from the system. My solution was renaming the built in launcher that was the culprit to disable it. This is what I did:

1) open Root Explorer or similar app
2) navigate to /system/app
3) look for an app named launcher.apk or launcher2.apk
4) change the extension of the app in step 3 to .bak instead of .apk
5) AMLauncher should now be selectable as a home launcher (may need to reboot also)

As for the new Quantum ROM with its EXT4 support, I am going to keep reading the reports from users on XDA and may give it a shot myself in the next day or so. I think most of the problems people are having are due to user error and a poor understanding of adb/command prompt.

The concern I voiced in that XDA thread was due to the many posts I've seen of other Galaxy S users bricking their phones due to incorrectly reverting back to RFS after making an EXT* change to their filesystems, however it appears that for the Epic reverting is simply a matter of flashing back to stock with Odin.

Thank you. Another thing learned in the game. I will let you know if I have any further questions.

Hey, I'm back to stock rooted 2.2 now since I never did get voicemail working successfully with this rom. Does anyone know how to get the wallpapers out of it though? There were two good ones that I absolutely LOVED! The one with the dark 3D cubes and orange marbles, and the one with the high voltage towers against the glowing orange background.

Dude you freakin' rock! Thanks man. Just got in bed. When I'm on my pc I'll be sure to hit the thanks button tomorrow!

Okay Ragnarokx, here we go! I like this part...

Did as you said...

Went into system/app and found Launcher2.apk, renamed it to Launcher2.bak

Found also in that same directory AMLauncher.apk

Rebooted.. Nothing.

Changed AMLauncher.apk to Launcher2.apk to take the place of the Launcher2.apk that was renamed to .bak and still nothing after reboot.

Now after further hair pulling (don't have much left, going bald at 38.. hehe) I find TouchWiz30Launcher.apk also in the system/app folder.

I'm assuming that is really what I needed to change since that is what Bonsai is running is a modified TouchWiz correct?

Just figured I would run this by you before I keep changing things around and end up with an unstable system. If I am correct then about TouchWiz30Launcher.apk then what could this "Launcher2.apk" be that I found in there?

Try downloading Home Manager from the Market, open it up and see if you can switch to AMLauncher from there.

Bingo problem solved. You didn't mention this part in your earlier post, or did you not expect this happening?

There are two ways to switch launchers:

One is to go into Settings>Applications and tap Clear defaults on the launcher, then press the Home key and select the launcher you want. The other is to use a program like Home Manager.

I assumed you would do the former, but when you said you were having problems I suggested the latter. If you weren't aware of the first method then that's my fault for assuming.

No problem. BTW I did go into Settings>Applications and found TWLauncher and AMLauncher and looked right at what your talking about but for some reason it didn't register in the old brain at that point in time.. LOL.

What we just went threw here might be a good "sticky" on the main page of this section for anyone else wondering how to switch/manager launchers with more options becoming available to us with modded ROMs.

That's actually a good idea, and since launchers are a pretty universal thing between Android phones it would be a good how-to for our general help section. I'll see if I can get an Advisor to whip something up.

The next release of TrulyEpic should be compatible with both RFS and EXT4 thanks to that new kernel that's out.

Hi Ragnarokx,

I'm going to be converting to EXT4 and was wondering if you know if TrulyEpic v2+ supports the file system. I just flashed it today and I love it and want the new FS. I appreciat eyour help.

TrulyEpic is RFS only atm, but Ahmgsk should be releasing a new version that is EXT4 compatible. I would either hold off until then, or flash a different EXT4 compatible ROM in the meantime.

Thanks for the clarification. I went with midnight 2.6 for the meantime to take advantage of the EXT4 FS. Really makes a difference. Can't wait to see TE support EXT4.
