[ROM] TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 AC - no planned EB13 update :'(

How far back do we need to start over? All the way back to reinstalling dk28 or just wipe in clockwork and reflash rom and then addons? Just want to do it right to save some greif. Thanks

If you want to get rid of addons but keep the rom, just launch into clockwork wipe cache and reflash the rom, if you want to keep certain addons just add them after reflashing.

Sick of Samsung and Sprint's crap and ready to go back to rooting. Last time I messed with 2.2 on my old Epic, it ended up not being up not being able to update prl and profile after I returned to stock 2.1, along with couple of other bugs I'm nervous about:

1. GPS
2. Battery life
3 Proximity sensor/rotation problems during and after 2.2
4 WIFI was buggy and wouldn't connect (or hold connection) to some networks I would connect to
5. Laggy in general compared to 2.1 stock menu screen/window transitions

Do any of these pop up in TrulyEpic?

First off, I want to thank Ragnarok for all the work that was put into this and the other guides. Made the whole process relatively straightforward for a complete noob like myself.

I did run into one issue, though, which I'm not sure if it's something wrong that I'm doing. I used MyBackup Root to backup and restore most of my apps (APK + data), but now the market doesn't recognize that they exist for the purposes of checking for updates and whatnot. Did I botch something here?

EDIT: Just noticed that only some of my apps were restored. At the end of the restore process, there was a message on many of the apps that a market link couldn't be found, but even then a lot of those still installed.

There is still some risk associated with rooting, with that being said TrulyEpic is a very stable rom(with great support) because of its simplicity.
1. GPS: in the rooting process there are optional steps in there to prevent GPS issues, I highly suggest following these to prevent issues and if you still have issues there is a sticky on how to fix a GPS with 4 possible solutions.
2. As for battery life the kernal is unmodified so you are unlikely to see a significant increase in any 2.2 rom. I use juicedefender and it seems to squeeze a couple more hours out of the stock battery with this rom.
3. Haven't heard of any issues with the proximity sensor, and I have heard of rotation lag but it is a simple fix, just read through all the posts in the thread.
4. Haven't heard of any wifi issues
5. This rom runs AMlauncher which is built for speed(and it delivers) because it is built for speed it is very simply and lacks in the modifications you see in ADW or LP, you can use one of those on top of AMlauncher but anytime you run another launcher on any system you increase the likely hood of lag.

If you are coming from a stock rom, ie DK28, or you backed up before getting to 2.2 there is always going to be some issue when you back up data because they are different systems. My recommendation is when you first get the rom you want installed just sign into your google account and repopulate your apps through the market(of course without the data) get everything set up the way you want it, then back them all up with their data. That way when there are rom updates there is an increased likelyhood of a successful restore of working apps and data when you update that rom.

** I didn't have alot of luck restoring apps when I first rooted and installed a rom, I just started with a clean slate then used the market to get all the apps i wanted, set them up, then backed up APK +data with mybackup root.

I started from the current version of 2.1, which i'm guessing is where most of the issues are coming from

Yeah most likely, I know it sucks now but that is the nature of the beast because of the many versions of android. It should go alot smoother after the first time because right now all of the 2.2 roms are using pretty much the same kernals and switching between roms and updates are less likely to incur issues restoring data and apks.

I am beginning to have intermittent loss of phone capabilities - I can't dial out.
I have resolved with a boot, but it is getting very annoying since this is a phone!!

The only change I had made is pairing a bluetooth. It occurred then as well as when it is "not" on, so using normal dialpad.

Also of interest, hubby has a pure stock Epic. So to measure battery times, I deleted everything to match his, so we are basically running the same processes.
With Cell Standby and normal calls, no high usage, my battery is draining about 2 % more than his is. And I have done the DRM Stop, Airplane Mode, etc. tricks.

But the all of a sudden phone call inability is wierd. Booting again, then have to go through all of the above.

Froyo, no matter if its stock or custom will currently have worse battery life than stock Eclair. Until they release the source code so the devs can start making custom kernels to control processor speeds and voltage usages (all that technical junk) we will have to deal with what we have.

Your phone capabilities are strange... Maybe Ragnarokx will have a solution.

Its just strange on the battery life, I read some are better, and yes, I realize it completely depends on what and how you use it in a lot of ways. But I have been
getting worse battery on this rom than DK28, possibly playing and tweaking it more, so just decided to set them side by side as alike as possible and see what happens.

This was not meant as complaint, this was meant to be informative, and I just want to thank you and Rag (much easier to spell) for all the work and time you spend.

The gps issue is a dk28 issue, not rom specific. I don't know link off top of head (using phone not computer to reply to this), but check the roms/hacks forum for the sticky post "4 ways to fix gps". I JUST finished doing the 1st method myself. Gps now working, accurate to <3m. No wifi prb at all. This is a killer rom.

I'm not struggling to get a lock (solved that problem when I moved to dk28 originally), I'm struggling with losing the lock when navigating.

Lag rotation? I think I know what you are talking about and how to fix it. Are flying games like winds of steel affected at all? if so then I tink I am understanding what is going on. Every time I fash a froyo rom I have a slight lag in rotation and in flying games the plane don't fly right. To fix this i have to calibrate sensors not by using the option in settings but by downloadin android terminal emulator by jack something. then follow this

Type: su then hit enterand allow the app root
Then type: /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha and hit enter then just folow directions. Exit app turn off screen, turn it back on and then it should fix the lag

ugh, i did the fix using Terminal Emulator, and now when i close the screen, it rotates 270 degrees(upside-down)! do you know how to change this? i tried callibrating in settings...

What is the difference between the browser that comes with this ROM and the stock froyo browser?

Are either of these better than Dolphin HD?

I installed this last night and am loving it so far. Only Issues I have come across is that i have to uninstall and reinstall some apps for them to work. I had restored them originally from MyBackup.

Also, I couldn't get the Email client to work, looked like it setup correctly but I would get a "connection error" when trying to pull down emails. I flashed to the stock email and it is working fine.

Thanks!

Were you on Eclair or Froyo before this ROM?

If you were on Eclair, did you flash the DK28 modem?

If you were on Froyo, you might want to try flashing again and performing the wipes. There shouldn't be a problem with the phone or battery life.

See above (terminal emulator app).

The browser in this ROM allows you to change between mobile and desktop view in settings (last setting). Being better than Dolphin is subjective, but a lot of people seem to like Dolphin.

If you came from a stock ROM, then your applications will not restore correctly. When going from custom ROM to custom ROM they will, however.

I'm not struggling to get a lock (solved that problem when I moved to dk28 originally), I'm struggling with losing the lock when navigating.

I've had this problem on every DK28 ROM I've tried (including this one and stock DK28). I achieve initial lock very quickly, but I will lose lock from time to time while driving. Even if I'm stopped in clear view of the sky. I've done all the Froyo GPS fixes.

EDIT: Just to add, never had this problem on any Eclair ROM
