[ROM] TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 AC - no planned EB13 update :'(

ragnarokx

Is there a flashable zip that will restore the stock font? I flashed the Bonzai font but I'm not sure that I like it.

Great ROM, sticking with this one.

Thanks!

I've had this problem on every DK28 ROM I've tried (including this one and stock DK28). I achieve initial lock very quickly, but I will lose lock from time to time while driving. Even if I'm stopped in clear view of the sky. I've done all the Froyo GPS fixes.

EDIT: Just to add, never had this problem on any Eclair ROM

Interesting. I don't recall having this issue with the vanilla DK28 though. I need to go out and run some more tests.

I have upgraded to this great ROM. However, I did find that there are some steps that are not as clear and I want to help some of the people that may not be familiar with updating ROMS. I am technical but I did have some struggles.

You will need to prepare your phone for the new ROM. We all have configured our phone and have many applicaions and tons of information on them. When you do this ROM update all will be lost. So you need ot back this information up. You will also need to put files on your phone that will be needed to upgrade the ROM. Here are the steps I used.

1. You should get some type of backup software for your phone. There are a couple of good ones in the market. I used MyBackupPro. There is also Titanium Backup. Spend the money to purchase the app and install it on your phone. You will need to backup applications and data to your SD card. Do not plan on restoring the apps or the Android config. I have never gotten that to work well. I use the backup for contacts, images, and bookmarks. Believe me I tried to save the data.. I had my Angry Birds to 3 stars on almost every level and it is all gone.

2. When you get your ROM is updated you will lose all of your installed apps. The market keeps track of purchased apps but your free apps will no longer be listed in the my apps section. So take the time to open the market on your phone, hit the menu button, and select my apps. Write down each app by name so you can search the market after the update and install all of the apps you had before. If you do not do this it is very hard to get them all back. I know the backup software talks about backing up the apps and app data. However, I have found that it does not do a very good job at that and the phone can become unstable after restoring the apps or data. This is not everybody's experience but it is mine.

3. Next you need to make sure your phone is on DK28. This is the leaked version of the official Froyo ROM. This update is very simple to do and there are plenty of instructions and threads on how to update to this version. You can verify what version by going to your home screen, hitting the menu button, go to about phone, and look at the baseband vesion. It should have the DK28 in it.

4. Your phone needs the files that contain the ROM and the patches for various items. Take the time to understand the patches and which ones you want and don't want. You do not need to do any of them if you like the items they change. So from the first page of this thread click on the latest version of the ROM ( currently 1.2 ). Download it and all of the patches to a folder on your computer. Then take the USB cable that comes with your phone and connect it to your computer. Try not to use any USB hub and connect it directly to your computer. When you do this your phone will display three options. Select the middle option and use it for USB storage. Your computer will install USB drivers and make take a few minutes to display an explorer window with your SD card contents. It may also ask what you want to do with the connected device. Select the option to browse files. Create a folder on the phone SD card that is called TrulyEpicRom. Put the ROM file and all of the patch files you want in this folder. Do not format the SD card at any time during the upgrade process. If you do not have these files you can "brick" your phone and it will not be able to do anything.

5. I have found it easier to update the ROM on the phone when it is factory reset. When you do this everything will be wiped from your phone and it will be set to a clean DK28 install. To do this you need to disconnect the phone from any USB cords, make sure it has a full battery. To factory reset it you need to hold the volume down, camera, and power buttons at the same time. This button sequence will be used alot during the upgrade so get used to it. When the phone comes up you will be presented with a menu. If the phone just comes on and goes to the home screen you did not hold the buttons correctly. When the menu comes up select the factory reset option.

6. Your phone is now ready to go with the ClockWorkMod and EXT4 update. Once you do this you will not be able to boot your phone into the old DK28 ROM. The instructions on how to do this are clear in the first post of this thread. They are found "this thread" links at the beginning of the instructions. Follow the closely and it will take time to do this process. Your phone will not be on the air during this process.

7. After your ClockWorkMod update is done, you need to boot into the ClockWorkMod by booting with the volume down, camera, and power button key sequence. When the menu comes up select the option for "Install Zip From SD Card". You move the highlight with the volume button and use the camera button to select the option. The next menu will have an option to "Choose zip from SD card". You need to select the folder you created with all of the patches and the ROM file in it. Select the ROM file and let it go. It will update the ROM and after it completes you can navigate back to the main menu and tell the phone to reboot. The phone should boot up and you will see the factory reset version of the TrulyEpic ROM.

8. If you want any patches you will need to use the same method to choose each ZIP as you did to install the ROM. All is done thru the ClockWorkMod menu. If any other patches come out you will need to put them on the SD card and install them with ClockWorkMod.

9. You can now install all of the apps you want on your phone, use the backup to restore contacts, bookmarks, and images. Set all of the Android settings, WiFi, and bluetooth settings you want. I do NOT suggest you change the launcher. I have heard of weirdness when doing this. The AMLauncher is not bad and works fine for me. I only wish it had two more home screens and that I could change the items in the quick launch bar. I really am missing messaging on the quick launch bar.

You should be ready to go. I hope this helps anybody that may not be as familiar with ROM updates as others. Many thanks again to ragnarokx for this superior ROM. I am so happy that I have this ROM and it has really improved my phone.

Were you on Eclair or Froyo before this ROM?

If you were on Eclair, did you flash the DK28 modem?

If you were on Froyo, you might want to try flashing again and performing the wipes. There shouldn't be a problem with the phone or battery life.

Try running it again.

See above (terminal emulator app).

The browser in this ROM allows you to change between mobile and desktop view in settings (last setting). Being better than Dolphin is subjective, but a lot of people seem to like Dolphin.

If you came from a stock ROM, then your applications will not restore correctly. When going from custom ROM to custom ROM they will, however.

thanks, it seems to be fine now.

I am having Wifi issues so I was going to start over but when I go to use odin to reflash DK28 I get "MD5 Hash value is invalid". I have redownloaded from several sources and even shut off antivirus but it won't go and I have already tried using clockwork and I have the same issues with the wifi which is why I am going to do this:

1- using odin, reflash to dk28 (instructions in forum sticky)
2- use the oneclick clockwork/root program (from sticky forum) to root phone
3-reboot phone to clockwork screen. Clocwork will go through backup and filetype changes.
4-from main clockwork screen- BEFORE REBOOT- install trulyepic from zip
5-install any other addons for TE you want to use from their respective zips (minitheme, font, etc)
6-reboot phone from clockwork

Went through and did the upgrade to 2.2.1 and then this ROM...Everything seemed to go very well indeed. The only thing that I notice, which is quite major is that there are several keys on the physical keyboard that no longer work :( The 'p' key and the delete key to name a few. Surely this can't be normal? I've rebooted the phone a few times but still the same.

I was on DK28, had flashed 1.2. When I installed Bonsai All Font and the Battery Monitor from XDA, phone went nuts, basically bricked and locked up. I went back to Clockwork, wiped 3 times all caches and reloaded. All smooth.

Then connected Plantronics Bluetooth and one battery monitor. Started not being able to call out until I soft set (turned off the phone or pulled battery). Also a couple of text messages (handcent) went out very garbled. Then it started working today, but call quality was not good from same locations that never have had problem.

I mentioned the battery, I had much better battery on DK28 than Eclair, such an improvement and was hoping even better on this. Maybe playing more, resetting things, and trying bluetooth, but have not been able to make it through the day.
I used to end with 30-40%. Have carefully checked Running Processes, watching for anything unusual, haven't found it. Took one battery monitor off, that is why I was
setting two side by side. I have used 10% more battery than 2.1 with about the same amount of calls (no internet or text today), so it is not running as efficiently.
Will do this again tomorrow just to see how they run.

I'm just putting this out there to see if anyone else is having any issues.

What might help is to show a screen of what Running Programs should be under Apps. I knew what should be open, meaning more importantly what should be closed, under 2.1 and DK28. I see other programs and processes I am not familiar with and won't kill because it might be part of this rom. That might help anyone with
battery issues

I'll post it in the first post of this thread in a few minutes.

Definitely not normal. Try flashing again and test your keyboard immediately before restoring anything.

Quick question FS i made a rom backup
When i wasnt to restore it, do i have to do this?((IMPORTANT: in Clockwork before flashing: wipe data, wipe cache, advanced>wipe dalvik-cache twice each)) or can i just easily just restore it, and the previous data/ectt.. was deleted?

Why are you restoring? Are you switching ROMs or staying on the same ROM?
same ROM, is just a backup i did before messing around with it.
But i desided to head off and wipe ect.. then reinstall the backup, but now i can't seem to activate the phone, i did the step 4 of the GPS and was in a endless loop:(.
sorry this the reason why im doing it (http://forum.androidcentral.com/epi...ways-fix-gps-problems-froyo-5.html#post534688 ) it started to give me all this problems, so i went and tried to restore my backup(did the resets ect.. ), but that didn't work. FC'ng activation window constantly, so i Flashed the TrulyEpicRom(after reseting as well ect..)within in this thread, the activation ran fine, and now im just in what it seems as a clean as i started... did i fked up?..could i just restore the backup on-top of this one now? or start all over again with a clean froyo then you're steps?

If you have a fresh installation of the ROM, you can go a selective restore in Clockwork. Go to: Backup and Restore>Advanced Restore>(select your backup file)>Restore data.

Thank you for the support man! sorry for my horrible grammar XD and my n00bish root self.

No problem! Sounds like you're almost a pro now, and will probably be helping other people soon ;)

This is a really great Rom, the Epic is so fast on Froyo! Thanks for making this!

Probably a dumb question: Where are my voice mails going?
I see there is a revert to sprint voice mail on page 1. I just left a voice mail and it's not showing anywhere. I tried the voice mail icon as well as dialing 1 on the key pad, any ideas?

Why not use the V-VM app that comes with the phone instead? or youMail which is free :D

For those of you that have tried ViperROM, is this ROM better and why? Am debating which ROM to go with. Thanks.

I am not sure what the V-VM app is, is that the icon that simply says voicemail? If so I did try that one.

What is the Sprint Voicemail download on the 1st page?
