[ROM] TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 AC - no planned EB13 update :'(

Odd, hey ragnarok, just testing this out now, but whenever im sending a MMS message, no matter how small the image it stays as in "sending" but never sends. Do i gotta jump in 3G/4G network for this to work? or is it a bug thats going on? because i've been able to MMS even on Wifi.
thanks!

-edit-
what the... i have no network connection... wifi works, and i can send text's but when i try to browse the net outside of wifi, nothing.
Found the problem!
It doesn't seem to be an issue of the ROM, im still new sorry xD

See troubleshooting in the 1st post for connection problems.

As for the voicemail download, it will restore cm-android.apk which should fix any problems with sprint vm.

Thanks ragnarokx.
Installed the restore and after a couple reboots my voice mail seems to be working.

Also Thanks again for all of your help.

I must say the TrulyEpic rom really seems to have fixed the quirks of DK28, for me at least and I was pretty happy with DK28. I still can't figure out what is taking Sprint so damn long. I installed all the Sprint and Samsung stuff back into the rom. Touchwiz was running better than stock DK28 and it really made the phone feel like what we would expect from the official froyo update when it comes some day for those people waiting or looking for a more stock Epic experience. I have re-installed launcherpro for now and that is working really good for me too. I have not tried ADW but I can only imagine that works great as well.

I think the only issue I have left is peoples pictures are not showing on phone calls and texts. Before it would show peoples facebook / twitter or a pic I installed to the contact, now for the texts at least it is only showing pics that I installed to a contact and none of the facebook pics are working. This is surely nothing big to worry about but I would be curious to hear if others are seeing this on their phones.

You might want to check out an app called syncmypix. I haven't used it but I've heard it mentioned before to solve problems similar to yours.

can anyone help me.....?

the first thing I did to install this was just run the update.zip for DK28 straight from my SD card. as soon as that loaded (fresh from DI18, non rooted), my phone was laggy and the screen would rarely respond to my finger movements and taps.

i went ahead and followed the remaining steps hoping this would be resolved with another flash. I then flashed TrulyEpic and the phone behaved in the exact same way. I tried using Odin to flash to DK28 also, and the phone still behaved in the same way.

I ended up having to return to DI18, and my phone is working fine again (GPS, running fast and smooth, etc...)

can anyone explain what went wrong? it almost feels like I CAN'T get a custom rom on because it just keeps going wrong...

How long did you give Froyo before going back to Eclair? If you have a lot stored on your SD card the media scanner could have been running for a while, which will make your phone very unresponsive until it's done scanning.

I would try flashing Froyo again using this thread where it says New: Restore to Froyo DK28. Give it some time to settle in after boot before you start using it.

I gave it two hours after using both the update.zip method from my SD card and the Odin method. It was finished scanning media and was still pretty unresponsive for every couple of taps/screen swipes. My screen would rotate extremely fast however (a first for me in any Froyo ROM without having to use the sensor_calib method).

Since returning to DI18 my phone is perfect again, but I still need Froyo. Maybe I used the wrong version of Odin? I used the one that I had from December (when DK28 leaked), which is Odin3 v1.61.

My suggestion is to follow that thread I posted and use its version of Odin and Froyo. Sorry I don't have a more precise fix.

Amazing ROM!

Hey! Thanks so much for the ROM and steps to go through it!
I couldn't quite get it to work with the Odin method, so I did it a different way, and took me about 30 tries to get the ROM on there finally, but it worked great!
Your instructions were great too!
Last time I rooted (on my Hero) I had my friend Mike (the guy who made setCPU.... crazy-ass 17-year-old Android dev) show me through it, as I was scared to do it myself.... but the steps worked great and I managed it.
The ROM is amazing... it's incredible coming from the loaded Eclair ROM to this. Amazing.
I even put up a video in the first few minutes I had it loaded because there were only a few on YouTube, and I felt there should be more, as great as this ROM is.

So.... thank you thank you thank you! :)
In the future... I have 1.1 on there right now.... how should I go about installing new versions? I read you have to do some other wiping for 1.2 and I was worried about messing that up.... thanks!

Everything went smooth for a few days. I am having issues with the following:

Voicemail- when I get a voicemail ill get a text message (?) I restored the voicemail app from page one of this thread. Ill go to listen and it will and it will be black.

Calling- when i call out it will show the seconds going, and my girlfriends phone will ring, but when i answer the call on her phone I cant hear anything on either phone. I am not sure the issue as everything was working fine for 2 days.

PLEASE HELP! I NEED TO MAKE AND RECIEVE CALLS!

So far so good...

I justed wanted to post to say thanks for releasing a very functional and efficient Froyo ROM for Epic users. Like so many, I was hesitant at first to attempt a ROM install, but I managed to use the instructions here and found the process of flashing with Odin and CW3 to be pretty reliable. I made a few mistakes (using Odin such as leaving the F. Reset checked) but ultimately got past them following the instructions posted. Removing the battery and trying again with a new USB cable and port on my PC seemed to be the answer for my original problems flashing.

Some tips for others:

1) I did have to remove the .md5 file extension for DK28 before Odin would accept it (otherwise got invalid hash).

2) I would NOT attempt installing any applications (nor restoring) BEFORE you apply TrulyEPIC and of the additional .ZIP files (listed on page 1) through CW3. As such listed on page 1 -- I restored both the Sprint and Samsung apps along w/ Voicemail to make the phone seem more stock. I use Home Switcher (as mentioned in this thread from the Market) so I can swap between either AM or Touchwiz as the default Launcher to test them both. Both work equally fine so far for every day use. Finally, I was "forced" to use the Froyo email.ZIP as the Galaxy Tab email client in this ROM will NOT receive any emails regardless of configuration. Others have stated the same results.

3) I did find I lost my GPS upon installing the ROM. I was able to perform under "GPS fix" on page 1, both #3 and #4. #3 only seems to work temporarily, while fix #4 is the BEST option and did resolve getting my GPS to work fine again and all is well with Google Maps/Navigation.

Further questions/comments I have remaining for TrulyEPIC are:

1) When I did the stock DK28 flash with Odin from SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL.tar, I am unsure whether this applied the DK28 modem to my phone? My assumption is yes, but it would be nice to verify via a status screen or market application on the phone. Any ideas as to how I may verify this? Or do I need to flash the modem update separately from the Odin flash listed above? I am hesitant to flash anything separately as the voice and bluetooth functions of my phone are working just fine ATM.

As a side note (and mainly why I ask), I'm a mere 2 miles from 4g Wimax at my house. I read elsewhere the new modem update "expands" the signal reception to 4g. So far, I have not been able to lock on 4g either before or after the flash with Odin at my house. :( I was hoping I might actually get a better chance of a lock to 4g at my house (yeah I know - wishful thinking).

2) If I use Touchwiz (yes I know others hate it), it allows for a widget to be placed on the phone desktop called Program Monitor. This is handy because it shows a color indicator bar with the # of still running applications. Often the stock voice search or browser will NOT close automatically when using the Return button on the phone, so this reminds me to close them. It does not appear under AM Launcher anywhere. Is there a fix for this? Or something folks have found that's equivalent or better? It's about my only reason to not keep using AM Launcher 100% of the time. It seems this widget should show up under either launcher...

3) As for the web browser in this ROM... It seems speedy enough, *BUT* without the pinch-to-zoom (with auto *word-wrap*) feature for re-scaling, it seems too broken for everyday use. I have installed Dolphin Mini broswer and it works amazingly well with this ROM (very fast, multi-tabbed, speedkeys etc.). It too will allow a quick toggle (under Toolbox from the menu key) between reporting the broswer user agent as either Android, iPhone, iPad or Desktop PC client-based. Finally, Flash 10.1 works perfectly with Dolphin. You might want to consider an alternative browser component for TrulyEpic going forward IMHO.

4) It seems there was no bluetooth headset dialing as promised with DK28 (Froyo). I have tried 3 different headsets and while they all work just fine *after* dialing manually with the phone, as with Eclair, they still will NOT allow voice activated calling from a BT headset initiation. This is truly a shame as I've heard this added functionality was a part of Froyo for most android phones. My car and old cell (flip) phone both have this support built-in. How can such a capable Android phone have so much functionality elsewhere but not handle bluetooth dialing?

Any responses to the above are appreciated. Again, my applause & thanks to Ragnarokx and all others who have made this ROM possible and contributed vital feedback. This has been my first venture into flashing my Epic and using a FROYO-based ROM. I am quite happy with it as it shows a big improvement in both speed and new functionality!!!

Keep up the great work!

If you have a fresh installation of the ROM, you can go a selective restore in Clockwork. Go to: Backup and Restore>Advanced Restore>(select your backup file)>Restore data.

Quick question about this, is there any difference if i just choose restore instead of advance restore?
If there is, then I'll reflash TER:AC edition and Advance restore my back up.
let me know!:cool:

I hope fans of Truly Epic Rebirth will enjoy the new Mini Theme I designed for Ragnarokx and his ROM. Its very simple but it is also my first try at theme modding/designing. I give a lot of credit to those who have designed these more advanced themes that we use on a daily basis.

I just want to throw out a thanks to our friends at XDA Developers dreamsforgotten, a454nova and mysteryemotionz for helping me out with a few questions I had along the way.

The normal restore option will restore everything as it was when you performed the backup.

The Advanced restore gives you a more selective restore option. So if you reflashed say Truly Epic Rebirth again and simply wanted to restore Data only you could do that. Plus it gives you options to restore other aspects. Boot, System, etc.

Does this rom have the data governor killer baked in.

Not that I'm aware of. If you don't see it in the change log or main feature list on first post then its not included.

Unless otherwise stated, always wipe before flashing a new version.

Were you on Eclair before installing this ROM? Because if you have no connectivity at all that means you don't have the DK28 modem.

If you do have the DK28 modem, then it sounds like there is a service problem in your area.

1) When I did the stock DK28 flash with Odin from SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL.tar, I am unsure whether this applied the DK28 modem to my phone? 1. If you have Froyo from an Odin flash, then you have the modem no question.

2. TouchWiz widgets can only be used with the TW launcher.

3. See post #1 for stock browser.

4. From the users that I've heard talk about this, this is not yet working in Froyo DK28.

Does this rom have the data governor killer baked in.

It does not, because it has no real effectiveness.

I'll post it in the first post of this thread in a few minutes.

Definitely not normal. Try flashing again and test your keyboard immediately before restoring anything.

New to all this so want to be sure I'm following what you are saying. Flashing again means doing the install of the ROM again right? Wipe all data first and then reflash the ROM?
