[ROM] TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 AC - no planned EB13 update :'(

This was my first ROM on my epic, so I have to say the instructions were simple and easy to follow, so thanks for that. I flashed to DK28 and then to this ROM. Only issue I'm having (as mentioned above) is with the sprint voicemail app. It took awhile to work and now I get a text message saying I have a voicemail and if I go to my voicemail app it says like could not download, but when if I try to download it like 2-3 times it will eventually download. Is there any reason why it can't download it automatically or is there something I did wrong? Thanks

I just did a clean reinstallation of Truly Epic Rebirth v1.2 last night and after the first boot I went back into CWM and flashed the Sprint Voicemail and Restore Bubble SMS and it stopped the Text notification you would get from Sprint concerning a voice mail and all my voice mails went straight to Sprint Visual Voice mail as they should.

Does the AMLauncher support more than the default 5 home screens? If so, can you please explain how to change the setting?

FYI, I rooted and ROMmed 2 Epics this week-end. One worked first time, the other took 4 attempts to install CWM, and 2 attempts on the ROM. Just shows that there is some intrinsic variability between people's experiences. Both now work well with this ROM. It is easily the best of the 5 I have tried.

I'm new to the whole flashing thing so sorry if this is dumb, but does that mean just go back into CWM and do the wipes again and then do the install of the ROM and then install of the VM or do I have to go back further in the steps? Thanks

First before doing any of this did you ever flash either of the 2 addons I mentioned? If not then that is probably where your problem lies and you could simply just grab those add ons mentioned in the first post of this thread and go into CWM and flash them. Should fix the problem.

I never flashed the SMS one, I'm doing that now

But if you do this, you won't be abel to download the images that are sent to you as a slideshow
Unless Im wrong, because everytime i get a slideshow image( some phones do this even if its just one picture) and im unable to save it to my SDcard :/, unless im doing it wrong.

I'm really not familar with the whole Visual Voice mail thing. I just get normal voice mails from wife and kids.. I know by downloading the SMS Bubble Restore that should get rid of his SMS message notifications he was receiving.

The normal restore option will restore everything as it was when you performed the backup.

The Advanced restore gives you a more selective restore option. So if you reflashed say Truly Epic Rebirth again and simply wanted to restore Data only you could do that. Plus it gives you options to restore other aspects. Boot, System, etc.

Not that I'm aware of. If you don't see it in the change log or main feature list on first post then its not included.

Thank you man!

So I spent the last week reading these posts, asked a few questions and this weekend went ahead with going from stock eclair --> TrulyEpic 1.2, added samsung apps, midnight theme and so far for most part everything is working great! Wifi, 3G/4G, GPS, email program all working great!. I used mybackup to re-add all my settings and programs. Huge thanks to Ragnarokx, Paul627g and everyone involved with this! I really think that Epic as some of the best support!

I wanted to ask if anyone has some thoughts of a couple of bugs I'm working through.

1) Right now, not able to get the sound to work for incoming calls. When I go to settings --> sounds, then try to edit sounds for incoming calls, a force close occurs. I can only get it to vibrate with calls.

2) I've been using Winamp for a music play, but now it is unable to scan my SD cards (states "SD card error") and keeps scanning. I've tried two other music player programs that are also unable to scan the SD card to get music. Looks like this error is not a new thing as has occurred on other systems according to some posts in other forums.

Help is much appreciated!!! Thanks.

Update: Okay, in my noobish ways, I used the "Sdx Stock app removal" (from first post) to remove MediaHubV102_Epic4G, but also thought I needed to remove "mediaProvider.apk" and "mediauploader.apk". After restoring the files, the force close is no longer a problem. Still unable to access my SD card to play music and get ringtones however.

Quick question... Raganarok.. I don't like how the bubble chat looks.. I though it was teh same as in Eclair.. I LIKE... eclairs version better, can you make one that i can just flash back to remove teh bubble thing? Instead of me having to reflash my backup?

Though WOW the bubble chat look sucks  I don't see why they didn't keep the normal chat look from eclair!.

I was wondering too... is there any other compatable roms to put other addons/themes besides the one listed with the original post?

I have upgraded to this great ROM. However, I did find that there are some steps that are not as clear and I want to help some of the people that may not be familiar with updating ROMS. I am technical but I did have some struggles.

You will need to prepare your phone for the new ROM. We all have configured our phone and have many applicaions and tons of information on them. When you do this ROM update all will be lost. So you need ot back this information up. You will also need to put files on your phone that will be needed to upgrade the ROM. Here are the steps I used.

1. You should get some type of backup software for your phone. There are a couple of good ones in the market. I used MyBackupPro. There is also Titanium Backup. Spend the money to purchase the app and install it on your phone. You will need to backup applications and data to your SD card. Do not plan on restoring the apps or the Android config. I have never gotten that to work well. I use the backup for contacts, images, and bookmarks. Believe me I tried to save the data.. I had my Angry Birds to 3 stars on almost every level and it is all gone.

2. When you get your ROM is updated you will lose all of your installed apps. The market keeps track of purchased apps but your free apps will no longer be listed in the my apps section. So take the time to open the market on your phone, hit the menu button, and select my apps. Write down each app by name so you can search the market after the update and install all of the apps you had before. If you do not do this it is very hard to get them all back. I know the backup software talks about backing up the apps and app data. However, I have found that it does not do a very good job at that and the phone can become unstable after restoring the apps or data. This is not everybody's experience but it is mine.

3. Next you need to make sure your phone is on DK28. This is the leaked version of the official Froyo ROM. This update is very simple to do and there are plenty of instructions and threads on how to update to this version. You can verify what version by going to your home screen, hitting the menu button, go to about phone, and look at the baseband vesion. It should have the DK28 in it.

4. Your phone needs the files that contain the ROM and the patches for various items. Take the time to understand the patches and which ones you want and don't want. You do not need to do any of them if you like the items they change. So from the first page of this thread click on the latest version of the ROM ( currently 1.2 ). Download it and all of the patches to a folder on your computer. Then take the USB cable that comes with your phone and connect it to your computer. Try not to use any USB hub and connect it directly to your computer. When you do this your phone will display three options. Select the middle option and use it for USB storage. Your computer will install USB drivers and make take a few minutes to display an explorer window with your SD card contents. It may also ask what you want to do with the connected device. Select the option to browse files. Create a folder on the phone SD card that is called TrulyEpicRom. Put the ROM file and all of the patch files you want in this folder. Do not format the SD card at any time during the upgrade process. If you do not have these files you can "brick" your phone and it will not be able to do anything.

5. I have found it easier to update the ROM on the phone when it is factory reset. When you do this everything will be wiped from your phone and it will be set to a clean DK28 install. To do this you need to disconnect the phone from any USB cords, make sure it has a full battery. To factory reset it you need to hold the volume down, camera, and power buttons at the same time. This button sequence will be used alot during the upgrade so get used to it. When the phone comes up you will be presented with a menu. If the phone just comes on and goes to the home screen you did not hold the buttons correctly. When the menu comes up select the factory reset option.

6. Your phone is now ready to go with the ClockWorkMod and EXT4 update. Once you do this you will not be able to boot your phone into the old DK28 ROM. The instructions on how to do this are clear in the first post of this thread. They are found "this thread" links at the beginning of the instructions. Follow the closely and it will take time to do this process. Your phone will not be on the air during this process.

7. After your ClockWorkMod update is done, you need to boot into the ClockWorkMod by booting with the volume down, camera, and power button key sequence. When the menu comes up select the option for "Install Zip From SD Card". You move the highlight with the volume button and use the camera button to select the option. The next menu will have an option to "Choose zip from SD card". You need to select the folder you created with all of the patches and the ROM file in it. Select the ROM file and let it go. It will update the ROM and after it completes you can navigate back to the main menu and tell the phone to reboot. The phone should boot up and you will see the factory reset version of the TrulyEpic ROM.

8. If you want any patches you will need to use the same method to choose each ZIP as you did to install the ROM. All is done thru the ClockWorkMod menu. If any other patches come out you will need to put them on the SD card and install them with ClockWorkMod.

9. You can now install all of the apps you want on your phone, use the backup to restore contacts, bookmarks, and images. Set all of the Android settings, WiFi, and bluetooth settings you want. I do NOT suggest you change the launcher. I have heard of weirdness when doing this. The AMLauncher is not bad and works fine for me. I only wish it had two more home screens and that I could change the items in the quick launch bar. I really am missing messaging on the quick launch bar.

You should be ready to go. I hope this helps anybody that may not be as familiar with ROM updates as others. Many thanks again to ragnarokx for this superior ROM. I am so happy that I have this ROM and it has really improved my phone.

Best damn explanation I have seen to date! This should be sticky'd as a basic how-to! I would add in the links too.

Use MyBackUpPro and there is a spot to back up apps.... So if you r using applanet u will not lose all your apps.... Just Make sure you back them up to the sd card and click app and data.... So you wont lose your 3 stars on AB.... Next when u restore make sure you go to menu, settings, apps, development, and check stay awake.... Now restore your apps with data .... there u go.:p

Ok, few bugs I have found (ymmv):

1.) Application icons disappear randomly. Today I went to play Angry Birds and noticed both versions had disappeared from the app screen. When I went to the MarketPlace, it stated both were installed and allowed me to launch from there. I could not figure out how to get the icons back into the stock app screen. The only way I could get them back was to restore from My Backup Pro and then they re-populated. This happened to at least 4 programs.

2.) I have seen intermittent 3G connectivity. This very well could be my location, but it seems to fluctuate.

3.) Last evening I paired with a Zehyr HxM Bluetooth heart rate monitor and it worked fine as far as I could tell. When I paired with my Motorola S9-HD right and tried to play music using Mixzing I received quite a bit of choppiness and cutout. I adjusted settings including equalizer, buffer control and even went so far as restarting the phone, and nothing seemed to help. I also tried using ATK to kill unused services and apps (I know, I know, not recommended by many) all to no avail. Strange thing, it eventually cleared up - out of the blue! Just thought I would toss that out there. If you see this issue after flashing and pairing, just wait 30min and see if it corrects itself. Did with me.

4.) At times when I hit the application button, it takes upwards of 15-20s before the app icons populate. It is almost as if it is thinking. Very odd.

5.) As I previously mentioned, my GPS did not work when I first flashed. Option 4 from this link fixed it for me. Just keep in mind it will reset your phone and you will have to reload your apps.

Few items and questions:

1.) After logging into Goggle the first reboot after a flash, I noted that over the next 30min all my APP's re-downloaded and installed. No need to use My BackupPro to restore them. Is this something new? Of course it did not restore my data, but I did that using My Backup.

2.) Is there any way to get Sprint Navigation back? I did not see it in the Sprint add-on zip on the first page. I really like some of the features it provided.

3.) Screen rotation. Any way to control sensitivity and which orientations you want to enable? I really only want default orientations and/or app/keyboard forced orientation.

4.) Lastly, Flash 10.1. Can I now play Hulu Plus??? This will be HUGE for me!
