[ROM] VCRom v007

I'm back!!!!!!! The key was removing the battery and the sd card, then letting it sit for a few minutes. Then without the sd card, phone would boot. Not sure if it really helped, but then I made a backup of the sd card on my computer, formatted the card in the phone, copied my backup to the sd card, then booted to recovery where I did a nandroid restore. Thank goodness I decided to nandroid backup after my upgrade to VC then rooting and custom recovery this morning.

I should also add that once I could reboot without the sd card, with the newly formatted and backed up sd card, I tried again to download/install something from market using VCROM 007 before the nandroid restore. Same behavior as before; e.g. phone locked up and even after pulling battery, while leaving sd card in, I was stuck at the lg logo.

For me, at least, there is something seriously wrong with this ROM in terms of the marketplace and downloading/installing apps.

Maybe this will contribute to what is going on with VC.

As stated above, I was back to stock rom with V8->V9->VC via LG Updater, rooted. Had no problems with the phone all last night or this morning. I had bad feelings about powering off, but decided to give it a try this morning.

After powering off/on, I was again stuck on the LG logo. :-[

Tried the same trick as before, pulling the battery and sd card, waited a few minutes, and only inserted battery and tried to power up again. Still stuck. :-[ Maybe I didn't wait long enough?

Anyway, pulled battery again and tried to go into custom recovery, after waiting a few minutes. That worked. :D Then rebooted successfully from custom recovery.

After reboot, I put in sd card and successfully downloaded/installed/ran LINPAK from market. :D

Next test, I used Quick Boot to successfully reboot. :D

So, in my case, it appears the culprit has to do something with powering up and something to do with the sd card. From what I recall, the VC update was supposed to fix some sd card issues. Maybe something else was broke as a result? Just a big wag though on my part.

Am considering going to back to stock V8 -> V9 -> rooted, but would like to hear the Optimus S guru's thoughts on this. Is VC worth sticking with at this point?

A couple things you could do to help try and sove the problem.

1) If you are Overclocking set you speed to 600max.
2) Open command prompt and run the following command
Code:
adb logcat > logcat.txt

It won't print out anything but let it run in the background then go try and download a app wait till it either freezes or reboots then count to 30 do ctrl+c which will stop the log then attach the logcat.txt to your post.

I am not overclocking.

This appears to be the important part. The rest just seemed like startup information.

I have the market issue too. I formatted SD card and did a full wipe before installing the rom.

Going to try and flash to a previous version...I didn't see a definite way to fix it other than wiping the market cache, which I tried already.

EDIT: I flashed to v 6, it didn't work. So I went back and flashed to v 5 before the market was updated, and now I can download from the market. Is it possible that when updating the market something went wrong?? I'm fine hanging out on version 5 for now. It popped up that I needed to update again (dfjdsfskls, FU sprint), so can I just get rid of the auto DL like everyone who didn't update did?

I wiped everything and flashed v5 and now the market works for me as well. I also like the black notification screen with the lil android guy but you can barely read the txt on the note.

Heres what I did. Installed the rom, wiped everything (but boot, using Zefie's recovery), then installed the rom again. That got my market working, oddly enough.

mine does too. maybe it is just a setting in the v5 rom. oh well--at least we have a rom!

& i tried that mes3, still the market freezes when i try to install.

thanks again for the VC rom. :]

it wasnt fixed until 007. you can take its build.prop

I'll give that a shot if the update message comes back. I tried that method where you goto more info on the update and pull the battery and amazingly enough it actually works. Havn't gotten the update message in almost a day.

So, I never upgraded to 07... I stayed on 06, and had completely tweaked my framework to how I wanted it... (combined parts from a few places)...

Anyway, this has worked pretty well for the most part.

However....

I'm seeing a periodic issue where I've been on 3g... then on wifi... then back on 3g... but it doesn't switch back to 3g...

I'm unsure what to think as this was working pretty decently before...

Right now I'm back on my stock rooted image... (which I don't think I can use my modded framework with... :( any idea's? Is there anyway I can start from a nandroid image, and turn that into a deodexed image?

Thoughts?

thanks and request re: system commands in /system/bin

zefie, many thanks for this rom and all your other work!

I use OpenVPN, so having the tun kernel driver compiled in is great! I'm a kernel hacker so if I can figure out the Android build process I may try doing a kernel with bluetooth HID support -- so in theory any bluetooth keyboard like the fancy Apple one ought to work. (Now, I don't actually have a bluetooth keyboard but I think this would be cool ... swype is OK but keyboard or even bluetooth thumboard would be so much better).

People who want a black theme, remember that this rom is deodexed so it's easy to flash a theme over top of it -- for instance any of the nRom themes. (I'm using the stock gingerbread theme, theme_GBnormalBattery.zip.)

Personally, I like that this rom is mostly stock in the eyecandy department ... I don't like thunderom using nonstandard icons for browser, messaging etc. in the latest version. I even tried ripping LauncherPro out of VCRom but it fragged my phone and I had to reflash.

OK, so my bug/feature request is this ... VCRom (007 at least) is missing a bunch of standard UNIX commands in /system/bin (which most roms just symlink to toolbox or busybox).

Obviously it is hard to use the shell or run any scripts if you type "cp" and it isn't there. :) Another example is that ifconfig is symlinked to toolbox which is pretty useless (I symlinked to busybox to fix).

The fix is just to type "busybox" from the command line, it'll print out the list of commands that it implements, then just make a symlink in /system/bin for each of them. i.e. one way to do it is to dump the list of commands into list.txt and do:

cd /system/bin
for x in `cat list.txt`; do ln -s busybox $x; done

Anyway, I've done this on my phone, but since /system gets wiped every time I re-flash, I thought I'd suggest it for you to address upstream. Thanks!

I installed this ROM on my phone but it keeps freezing and restarting. Do you think its cause my optimus s's hardware isnt capable of running this software?

Do you have VC, or VD on your phone? Also, I think Zefie basically stopped working on this when he started working on CM7...
