[ROM][WIP]CM10.0.0-RC0-BobZ

Hello all.
I have a crappy 4 year old vm670 virgin mobile stock. i have tried and tried to find a way to customize this 4 yr old phone. i can follow some technical instuctions on this but i am a noob. it seems i need to use an adb which i know nothing about. so let me list where im at:
1 I did the super one click thing
2 i got a root checker app--- it says im rooted
3 downloaded rom manager
4 my phone is not listed for available flash recovery versions (BC its old)
4a so i picked an LG version thats not mine and it is stuck with that recovery now
5 ive downloaded cwm 3. but dont know how to manually install it
6 ive downloaded vm 670 roms and tried cwm manger to auto install_no help

i really want to update this phone but it seems tricker than most phones i hear of
thanks for any help
Robbie

since you flashed a recovery that is not for your phone you are now bricked.

lucky for you youre 4 years late and theres actually a way to unbrick them. Its tedious but possible

here is the link. http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...guide-unbrick-upgrade-optimus-v-easy-kdz.html

hello. i need some help with the sd-ext thing. previous posts have said that i need an sd-ext4 partition for this rom to work correctly.

how exactly do i get this done?

after installing this rom i reboot into recovery and format the sd-ext. then i take the card out and insert into the computer and view the sd-ext with minipartition tool software. its showing that the sd-ext is ext2.

apparently minipartition tool used to have a feature to format the sd ext to the desired format. but they have since removed that option from the software.

so my question is: how do i create an sd-ext4 formatted partition?

i currently have a class 10, 8gb sd card.

thanx for any suggestions.

Most of the up-to date recoveries can make an ext4 partition. I recommend the zengarden recovery.

thanx for that quick reply.

now one more question regarding the recovery:

i have had my phone for about 2 years and its been that long since i installed a recovery. last time i did this i had to install jdk/adb on my computer and install the recovery via usb into the phone.

is this still the procedure or is there now and easier more automated process to install a recovery?

also can i just install the new recovery over the old one or do i need to somehow uninstall/delete my current recovery?

again, thank you for your help.

if you get the flashable zip version of the newer recovery, you can use your current custom recovery to install the new one.

Download a terminal emulator from the market. Open it up and type in:

(line #1)
Code:
su(return) [If using a command Prompt type in: adb shell (return) instead]
(line #2)
Code:
mount[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]-o[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]remount,rw[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]-t[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]yaffs2[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]/system[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]/system(return)
(line #3)
Code:
cat[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]/sdcard/flash_image[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]>[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]/system/bin/flash_image(return)
(line #4)
Code:
chmod[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]755[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]/system/bin/flash_image(return)
(line #5)
Code:
flash_image[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]recovery[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]/sdcard/recovery.img [or however it's named exactly, on the sd card] (return)
If you get a # after typing all that in, continue with the sixth line of code. If you did not, or got an error anywhere, start over.
(line #6)
Code:
reboot[COLOR=red]_[/COLOR]recovery(return)

The red underscores are where the spaces should be, do not type them.
(return)=do not type this. Just hit the enter key(the one on the bottom right if in the terminal emulator)
(line #) don't type this in.
[sugestion] don't type this in.

I included all the code for installing the flash_image and recovery.img
You just need to flash a recovery (you already have the proper flash_image installed if you have a custom recovery already), so skip the third and forth line of the code.

Not sure why I've never been able to get this ROM past the cool boot screen. I waited four hours once and nothing, don't get it. Right now, I'm running Quattrimus. I use VM670NH recovery. I do a full wipe, but nothing. Do I need to wait longer than four hours perhaps? What am I missing here?

Four hours is far too long. I'd suggest wiping everything twice, and try a newer recovery. I use the LS670 build of TWRP and have excellent results, although COT is quite good also. Your recovery is largely based on the original Clockwork Mod recovery which was known to not wipe everything properly. That would certainly account for the boot loop you are experiencing.

May your camels never go bald.

Thanks, brotherswing. I'll give COT a try and report back later. I haven't been around for a bit, hope you're well. :)

I've never used COT, why does it look so complicated?!

Sorry brotherswing, I have to disagree.
The VM670NH recovery which is a ClockworkMod recovery, modified by BobZohme, is one of the two best recoveries for are phone.
If the:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe dalvik cache
format boot, cache, data, system, and sd ext
are selected and their still not getting past the splash screen, then the ROM zip is corrupt.
They need to download another then check the md5 sum.

Well, Andy, you may very well be right. I knew Bobz had made the vm670nh recovery after the whole Novatec/Hitachi fiasco, but to be perfectly honest I never used it. I went straight from Xionia to CWMT to TWRP. I tested COT, but have stuck with TWRP simply because I really like the UI. I made my suggestion based on the older CWM builds that caused these problems.
Revised advice: listen to Andy, if that doesn't work then try my idea.

May your camels never go bald.

Thanks, guys. I was hesitant about COT because like I said, it looked a bit complicated for me. I don't want to brick anything, I just want another ROM.
I downloaded Jellybean from this site, but I'll look for other links as well.

Try thekravens newest cm10.1 build with the latest kernel if you want to go with a different jelly bean rom

If you do decide to go that route, try bigsupersquid's kernel. It's really very good. The only problem is the battery charging doesn't display properly.

Sadly, I got the same result last night, just the boot screen. I've looked for different links, but they've brought me back here. Is thekraven's ROM for Optimus V or S?

All his ROMs are for the S, but, he allways includes a Virgin Mobile fix/patch. You need the Virgin fix. Their usually in thekravens first or second post.
Flash the ROM, then the fix, then the Gapps.

Okay, so I'll try to download that now, thanks. The other mystery for me is the fact that I can no longer view this forum on my phone. It just shows a header with the option to download the app, then blank. When I did try to download the app, I got an error message, 491, I think. Perhaps if I can get this ROM or some variation of it to actually work, it will solve that issue.
