[ROM][ZVJ] 2.3.3 DanteRom v4 [UPDATE] 10/14/2012

Thanks. I actually looked at that post before posting the question. I wasn't sure what the updated "amphedamines" [sic] meant but I just did a search on "amphetamines Android" and found the following link. Unfortunately, it doesn't say what the difference is between v1 & v2.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...d-amphetamines-inject-your-optimus-today.html

You wrote: "...the apps I had located within /data/app are moved back to /system/app".
Would you mind telling me the practical effect of that? I'm worried because I'm using Link2SD and it's currently showing:
Internal /data: 29% free.
SD Card /data/sdext2 70% free.
System /System 1% free.

I guess I can just do a Nandroid backup, give it a try, and then Nandroid back to v4 if it doesn't work out. I might try that this weekend. If so, I'll post feedback.

Thanks for the ROM and the update!

Thank you kindly! Got it running now. Been playing with the phone all day, so can't tell how the battery life is yet. Seems really fast and haven't had any problems yet.

@hlxanthus Is this still under development? I would like to learn how to cook me up a rom:)

It is the release I did 7 months ago. Here is the original post. [ROM][ZVJ] 2.3.3 DanteRom v4 [UPDATE] 10/14/2012 - Page 23 - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

So I simply flashed v5 over the v4 and reboot. I get the Dante ROM boot logo and everything seemed fine except the Google Play Store and Root Browser Lite app were corrupted in some fashion. Not thinking about it I just drug those to garbage and then went into my apps to update them, I was able to simply update the Root Browser Lite app, but the Play Store app was missing altogether? Is this what the dalvik2cache mod is for? Now, I had no problems or found the need for this mod under v4 so I would not think I needed it for v5?
So I rebooted into recovery and went back to my most current back, at least I thought it was and maybe it was a mistake on my part and I did not make a recovery that included the v4 Dante rom, IDK, anyway it booted me back int stock root? No big deal I thought, so I just flashed the v5 rom. Unfortunately, after reboot all I got was your home screen but with no icons whatsoever, I could not do anything with it? Do you have to flash v5 over v4 in order to get it to work properly? Recovered to stock root and reflashed v4 and all is good.
I have Xionia CWMA and when I make a back up it should include what ever is currently running on the device, correct? I went ahead and made another back up right after I reflashed the v4 ROM, I would like to just to see, but I am not sure I want to try a restore using the lastest back up if it is going to just send me back to stock root again.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I have been on Hydro Rom since beginning, but now I just could not install any new apps coz first of all, the newer versions are getting bigger and bigger, 2nd, hydro Rom only leaves about 125 Mb space for apps (limit of Dalvik Cache?)

So my two questions, is Dante Rom better in terms of handling our already limited memory source?
And can I just simply flash this Rom on top the Hydro Rom after I factory reset and wipe the cache? Thanks a lot.

I doubt that there's much difference in memory usage between HydroROM and DanteROM. I used to use HydroROM but switched to DanteROM. I don't recall the memory usage details but I don't think they were much different. If you want to solve your memory problem, get a fast SD-card (Class-4 or faster) and implement a memory expansion utility like Link2SD which you can easily do with HydroROM or DanteROM since they both have built-in support for EXT4 files systems. Do that and you'll like have way more than enough memory. Instructions follow.

I updated from DanteROM v4 to DanteROM v5.beta on my Optimus S. I did a cache wipe (not a factory reset) before flashing v5. Everything seems to work (and work faster) but I have the following two big problems-- which I guess I might be able to solve if I wipe my SD card and start fresh. No time for that now but if anybody has other suggestions please let me know.

Problem:
I had been using Link2SD on DanteROM v4 so after I installed DanteROM, Link2SD provided a "mount error". It says, "Since the 2nd partition is not mounted during boot time it has been mounted after the system finishes booting. Therefore your linked apps are not visible to the system at the moment. To make them available again, please try (1) “Recreated mount scripts” or (2) “Quick reboot”.
  1. When I hit "Recreate mount scripts", it says, "Mount script error. Mount script cannot be created. Write: No space left on device." When I try any of the options under Link2SD, none of them work, and most of them give the following error. "Failure /data/sdext2 mount not found."
  2. When I hit “Quick Reboot” it quickly rebooted and restored my desktop and app-drawer application icons-- except for PlayStore which has a generic non-working icon, and "Roaming" which is missing. The phone works well, until I reboot and get the same Link2SD error message. However, much to my pleasant surprise, when I do the quick reboot, my old Desktop is there with almost all apps in place. I thought I was going to have to restore my apps from Titanium Backup and re-link them with Link2SD but almost everything was there. However the Play Store icon was generic and not-working. And my "Roaming" app was missing and couldn't be reinstalled from Titanium Backup. (TiBu just hangs and fails upon reinstallation of both apps.)

What's working:
  • Everything seems a bit faster and snappier. Could that really be?
  • Seems stable.
  • All core functionality is working, like all physical buttons, charging, 3G, voice calls, speaker, speaker-phone, mute, Bluetooth/A2DP, WiFi, USB, Camera/Camcorder, Browser, Email, Texting, Contacts, Calendar, Music, etc. Battery drain seems normal.
  • WiFi Tether 3.2-beta2 app by Muller, Lemons, et al, works.
  • Except for the "Play Store & "Roaming" issues described above, all other apps seem to work, including Link2SD, Navigation, SprintTV, Watch ESPN, YouTube, Pandora, MixZing, MXPlayer, Llama, GrooveIP, Sound Hound, Dish Anywhere, ES File Explorer, et al.

EDIT 3/11/14: After I did a clean install, the aforementioned problem disappeared and everything seems to work perfectly.

Sounds like your system partition needs a little more space for the mount script. Try removing any non-essential system apps that you don't use. If you normally install a browser from the play store then getting rid of the stock browser should free up significant space

How do I delete system apps? Can I just open up ES File Explorer and delete unused app apk's (like Voice Dialer) from system/app?

That works... Or titanium backup can uninstall system apps... Or there are many other root apps to uninstall them

I will do you one better. Here the version 5 I never really released. Last reports had it quite stable though!

Tried this out. It seems pretty awesome, man!! Too bad you don't have an Opti S to continue development. Pretty smooth and battery friendly, too...which is awesome for a GB rom.

Just flashed the V5 for my wife's Optimus S and did the link2SD trick too. One question, does the V5 already include the dalvik cache fix? I had this insufficient space problem with Hydro rom before, but never really fixed it.

Also, I noticed that some times the wifi had reconnection issue if the phone is asleep for long. I thought it was the juice defender's problem so I disabled the wifi control in JD, but still wifi quit reconnecting occasionally.

Thanks for the great work!

The Aroma installer is amazing. I use it on all the supported ROMs in install to Multi-Rom Manager on my N7. I would love to see it brought to the s :D

It has the dalvik moved to cache if I remember correctly but with a lot of apps it still caused issues. There is a dalvik2dev mod that will fix it but then it is rebuilt on every boot so makes for long boot times. That is link to in the OP

How long? With link2sd and other similar scripts, the reboot time now for me is about 2-3 min (with all the apps linked to SD starting to function). You weren't talking about 10min type of rebooting time, were you?

And I noticed in your original post when you released the beta v5, you were waiting for the tether solution. Is this v5 you most recently posted here still the same beta version (from the file, it still says v5beta), and the tethering is not enabled? Thanks a lot.

Yeah it is still the same build as the previous betav5. No tether option built in. As for how long a boot time . . on your current build wipe dalvik/cache and reboot. That is how long. I have zero experience with link2sd mods and never supported them. But I would imagine 5+ minutes if you are already taking 3-4 minutes to boot. Dalvik is rebuilt every boot with the mod I am talking about.
