Help! Re: Root for Verizon GSIII

Trying to root my new GS3, and I seem to have hit a roadblock... could someone please help?

I was following the seemingly simple directions posted here both as a link & w/ a YouTube video

-[HOW TO] Root and Install Custom Recovery To Galaxy S III

...but when I click "Start" in Odin, the flash process doesn't begin. Instead, I get a single line saying "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)".
Everything seemed to be working fine to that point... proper files are all there, phone booted into download Mode, clicked PDA, etc. Thoughts?

In the meantime, my SG3 screen still says "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!" even when I close Odin. doesn't look like there's anything really downloading, so is it safe to unplug my phone from the computer?

Again, a huge THANKS to whomever can help out!!

Thanks for the quick reply

Full rooted for now: the .tar file is 1.5GB

I downloaded the file onto my computer yesterday, and it's the full 1,536,010kB, so yes. It doesn't appear that anything at all flashed onto my phone.

Not sure how much battery life I've got, since I started near 100% but have been connected (searching the net for an answer) for quite a while ...so for the time being,it's probably best to get out of Odin and stopping the root process

This is what i had to do last night. Just follow all other directions. Don't unzip the file you are downloading. Once you done what i quoted above. Select the PDA button and navigate to the location you have the .tar file. If it is on the right track to flashing. Youll see a square that says SYSTEM in it. Have a coke and a smile:thumbup::D

...so if my SG3 screen says "Downloading... do not turn off target", it's probably safe to disconnect from the computer & charge?

(sorry... 2nd Android device and 1st root, so an Android noob despite loads of other tech experience)

No worries. Youve got help. You should be Ok going on with the process. Just navigate to the tar file and open it in the PDA selection

Remember...its all about patience. Don't rush anything. If something gets botched don't worry. You can always recover your device. That is whats great about android

I feel calmer already. So I did click PDA, navigate to the tar file, and open it. But when I clicked "Start" not much happened. Just "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)" in the Odin Message window.

Ok. Close Odin. Remove the device from the usb cable. Remove battery. Reboot. Once rebooted. Plug your phone back in. Power down and boot into download mode. Your comp should recognize it and install different drivers. From there...follow the other directions.

Got it! For some reason (permissions settings, I think), the drivers had downloaded but not installed. I found them, installed them, and now the flash seems to be proceeding as it's supposed to. Thanks again for helping out!!

SWEET! Glad it finally worked. I didn't even think to tell you to do that. It's always the smallest details that I overlook.

Sure did take a while but thank you for the help. I more than likely would have given up and spent another day trying to figure it out.
