Root password

So I've spent the last three hours trying to figure out how to add a root password for my epic, using the joeykrim root. I figured out that I could make a password protected passwd file by editing joeykrim-root.sh, but I think the passwd file uses password hashes, because I can't actually use that password.

So, how can I have root on my phone, and have security? If I actually had a password there, would applications be usable? Should I just hack/unhack my phone (I wrote scripts to do this btw) and somehow set specific applications to have root through the setuid filesystem flag?

Thoughts?

my question is how would someone go about getting this file with the passwords, a corrupt app that google would catch onto quickly, email, would they have to be able to touch your phone? I have been considering unrooting but im trying to way the actual possibility of someone getting it vs not getting it
