[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13 w/Optional EXT4

I tried flashing the Blue Battery Meter from midNIGHT Theme and it created force closes, had to restore in clockwork. Also, I don't know if this has anything to do with the cwm, or the dual filesystem, but my camera will not work, when I open it, it just says fail. I haven't tried it along the way so I don't know what could have caused this, anyone else have this problem?

Edit: Just rebooted and it works now!

Not to sound stupid, BUT I assume allowing root access to programs can be dangerous. So, besides being careful, how can one decide to allow root access?

Only way it can become dangerous is by your use, as long as you know what you're installing in your phone and using, it wont be dangerous :)

hey paul, quick question, if you have installed the Genocide 1.2GhzOC EB13 Kernel v0.2a with EXT4
have you been getting any problems with it?

Your just allowing the programs to run without asking for the verification each time you open them, thats all..

I've manually updated to EB13. Will converting to EXT4 delete all the data not on my SD card (apps, contacts, settings, accounts, etc)?

Thanks for all the hard work on this, ragnarokx.

Just asking in case I'm doing something wrong, but doing the conversion to EXT4 seems to break my bluetooth voice dialing.
On RFS it connects, voice pops up, and I speak a command. On EXT4 it connects then instantly disconnects.

Can anyone else try this for me to see if it's working?

No I believe everything is left intact since you already flashed the ROM prior to converting. The conversion does a backup and restore of your system/data/cache during the conversion process.

Thanks paul! and another quick question, after the convertion of the EXT4 can i reflash the Deoxed Rom if i wanted to? and not having to re-root it again to EXT4?

No, the deodexed version doesn't currently have CWM, if you do reflash it you will lose your CWM and end up rooted with stock recovery mode. This will be changed probably in any new released ROMs.

Ok, before today I was a fairly new to all this hack stuff. I did root 2.1 and installed a rom and kernel but not very confident with the process. Well today I did the manual update to 2.2, rooted in to ext4 messed it up because I didn't follow directions, odin back to stock rerooted correctly this time and all is well. Now I feel very comfortable with all this hack stuff. Thanks AC! :D

Darn i don't know what i did, but im having random reboots, and resets.
btw have you guys noticed that the sports option in the camera, still doesn't work it fc's in stock eb13 too?

Is everyone having voicedialer issues? I saw fix posted by Dameon but wasn't sure if it was okay to use with ext4. Voice Dialer says "try again after restarting your phone".

@Kikoshi, that's what I had happen. You need to install the EB13 stock deodex before you install ext4.

See it wasn't TER related after all... Camera I'm speaking of.. .

Relief :)

I'll repost this again:

I'm have a problem converting to ext4. Booting to CWM3 it starts and check the partitions but then seems to stop with an error:

Can't mount /sdcard
Can't mount /sdcard

Any ideas? I noticed in my Titanium backup the sdcard is mounted here: /mnt/sdcard

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Just to let you know, if I try to go to Mounts and Storage Menu and mount /sdcard I get an error too.

UPDATE: Figured it out. Had a 32g SD card installed. Removed the 32g and replaced with stock 16g. Now doing the backup.

UPDATE2: Forgot that EB13-DUALFS-KERNEL.zip was on the other SD card, had to unmount the card in CWM3, mount it on my Win7, copy it to the card, then mount it with CWM3 and finish the flash. Works great! Verified I have ext4. Thanks Folks!!!

Hey all,

I am surprised this has not been addressed yet. I am on stock 2.2 now, and am used to Z4 one click rooting.

If I root using the .bat file in the OP, is there a similarly easy way to unroot if I choose?

Thanks in advance,

Matt!

I updated to EB13 via the samsung .exe since the update.zip method kept giving me errors (after having flashed back to stock eclair), but the root went off without a hitch. Thanks for the time you guys take to help out all us robots..
