[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13 w/Optional EXT4

I did what you said,
However my phone seems to be laggier than before.
I'm not sure what's going on as this is the first time I'm rooting.
Could someone help me find out what the problem is?
Is there something I can run to smooth out the lag?

THanks

I would use Odin to go back to stock and try again. Could be a bad flash.

bare with me, noob to this.

by flash do you mean, run .bat for each one through windows?
i rat bat for froyo last night,
and bat for cwm today.

was i supposed to run .bat for ext4 too?
I thought in cms i was just to install form zip.

Part 2, Steps 1 & 7

No problem. Also be aware that doing the steps out of order may cause problems. You may need to use Odin to go back to stock EB13, and start at the beginning of the procedure.

Ahh back to EXT4 again, thanks guys! does seem snappier compared to RFS..also my missing apps came back lol..now to wait on some EXT4 ROMs

I'm sure I am not the only idiot. Some tips that finally helped me:

1. The standard Windows drivers that recognize the phone are not enough - you need to install the proper USB drivers so that debug mode works properly (see step 1).
2. If you run into the issue that the CDC Abstract Control Model driver won't load, don't give up hope. It is actually unneeded. Once the other drivers are loaded, you can disconnect the phone then reconnect and move on from there. You can check the status by double clicking on the Installing Drivers icon in the notifications bar. If that is the only one not installed, unplug and plug back in.
3. Also got stalle with the ADB process getting stuck. The notes recommend Ctrl-Alt-Del to kill the process. The quicker solution is Ctrl-Shift-Esc, kill the process, then double click ADB.exe in the folder you created. One less step than the Ctrl-Alt-Del route.

With those three out of the way, I'm good.

Bricked my Phone, followed all of the steps, however after I selected the ext4 conversion file before rebooting, and now the phone just cycles at the start up screen and vibrates uncontrollably.

Not sure what to do now.

I'm have a problem converting to ext4. Booting to CWM3 it starts and check the partitions but then seems to stop with an error: Can't mount /sdcard

Any ideas? I noticed in my Titanium backup the sdcard is mounted here: /mnt/sdcard

Any help would be appreciated.

I had a stock eclair, did the manual update to EB13. Rooted the phone, then went to part 2 to swtich over to ext4 and that when it messed up.

odin got me back to eclair. booo.

If you read the whole thread it tells you several times the ext4 is not ready yet. Do not install it yet. At least that's how I read it...

in awe of its ease... thank you so much!!

first time root, got it on first try. great instructions!

why bother

what are the benefits to going back to stock... flashing over to EB13, even with root capability? I love my dk28 with TER and all my mods and customizations. Since there are no mods (yet) out, and TER, my favorite, isnt compatible, is there anything really worth joining the rest of the crowd flashing to EB13?

and i agree with the people that said you (our amazing developers) need to be working for sprint! maybe they'd have had this stuff out sooner. It takes them 9 months to get their version out, and within 24 hours there is a rooted/ext4 version out, with roms and (semi) functioning kernels already out. this just goes to show that people who actually CARE about their followers and care about their products will produce higher quality products and produce them faster than the big corporations can. so THANK YOU for all your time and hard work keeping our appetite for new software well fed.

Odin'ed back to Stock Eclair, Updated to EB13, Performed Part 1 to root the phone

I am scared to try part 2 again.

Seems like they have this set up to convert eb13 to ext4.

But when I got back to the Clockwork screen with the orange text, I did a restore and it asked me if I wanted to restore before the EXT4 conversion...just finished rebooting now to see what happens
