[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13 w/Optional EXT4

could you list where to find a reliable list of those replacement animations, i cant seem to ever find one that runs correctly. your method thankfully got rid of the stock boot, but now its just showing the android name and i need to restore.
please, thank you

Check xda-developers Epic 4g>Themes section and look for Supernova themes or themes by a454nova. He does some nice work and his work is very reliable. I use his battery mod and other things in my ROM. You will find a list of 8 boot animations last I checked.

That's not necessary, but thank you! I appreciate the offer :)

If you use Odin and like the .tar file in this thread, you get a fresh install of EB13 and it will already be rooted for you.

Thanks. Wish I had seen that before last night. Would have saved me 45min

Your stock ROM will remain, but you'll gain the ability to flash themes (it will "deodex" your system).

So "deodex" means EXT4 converted? Sorry. Just got through ready all the posts. Was wondering what this meant.

Deodexed means you can flash themes onto your ROM. It also recently became a prerequisite for EXT4. It's just the way apps are setup in your system.

you didnt stick around to help me refine this so this may not work but i did my best .... please post back letting me know if this worked ... if it doesnt work please pm me and let me know when you will be available to help me help you lol.....please read the directions it gives you and follow them

Download modified root file HERE

I need BT for now, so didn't go any further with the EXT4 stuff.

CWM that installs is v2.5.1.0, and these instructions refer to CWM3. Before I get myself into a pickle, can I use the Remove Stock Animation references below with this version of CWM ?

TIA

Yes actually I have.. You need to remove a file in the system to stop the stock animation from "bleeding" threw with the new bootanimation that your trying to flash.

First let me ask do you have Root Explorer from the Market?

Edit:

1. Make a CWM backup as usual just incase.

2. Flash this file Remove Stock Boot Animation (Flash in CWM3)

3. Immediately afterwards flash the boot animation you picked out in CWM3 format from a454nova's list as you stated or you won't have a boot animation and your device will probably start freaking out throwing up FC's.

4. Reboot your system

5. You should now have a nice new boot animation with no bleed threw from the stock boot animation.. ( I had this happen too)

I would have to write you a new script/flashable that supports CWM2.x.x.x format. I could attempt that for you or if you have Root Explorer? There is a way to do it using that.

Thanks Paul

I do not have Root Explorer. Do I *HAVE* to have EXT4 to move to CM3? I'm not trying to make more work for you...

Yes you would need to convert to EXT4 for CWM3.

Give me a little bit and I'll see what I can come up with for you.

Just have to double check my scripting...

1. Make a backup in CWM before proceeding so if anything happens you can restore.

2. Remove Stock Boot Animation (Flash in CWM2.x.x.x)

3. Immediately after flashing the file above follow up by flashing a new boot animation that is CWM 2.x.x.x compatible.

4. Reboot your system and you should have a new boot animation.

Let me know how things work out..

Hoping the first link on Supernova's boot animations is CMW2 friendly cause that's all I can find ;)

-- Installing: SDCARD:Remove Boot Animation CWM2xxx.zip
Finding update Package....
Opening Update Package...
Installing Update...
E:Syntax error in update script
Installation aborted

Thanks for the help Paul

If you could redownload the file. I posted one a few minutes before the one you see above and saw I made an error and fixed it.. Try downloading and flashing it again.

unfortunately have to wait for confirmation of boot ani being CWM2.x friendly - after looking closer I think that initial file link posted is for replacing in the system folder, and not flashable (unless you know different)

Its sort of like getting a great gadget for Christmas with no batteries and finding all the stores closed. :-(

I'll post back soon as I can find something. Thanks so much, Paul

Send me a link to the boot animation you want to flash and I will make it flashable in CWM 2 if that is a problem.

Otherwise the code I used should flash, are you getting an error when you flashed the Remove Boot Animation zip?
