[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EC05 w/Optional EXT4

The stuck at Samsung screen could be a few different things...

1.) You didn't flash the EC05 modem if your coming from EB13

2.) You didn't complete the process by flashing a EC05 based ROM once done with the full EXT4 conversion before leaving CWM.

3.) Just a bad flash for whatever reason and you need to do a full wipe and flash again.

I was on EC05 before I started the root.

When I was in ClockWork, I went through the process to flash Syndicate 1.1. I did not even reboot the device, it did so itself, after Syndicate installed.

What would be the method for a full wipe?

Also, I should note that I was not getting stuck on the Samsung screen. When that screen was loading, the word, "Android" was flashing on the screen. And I made it to the homescreen, I just could not do anything once I got there. The phone was vibrating and restarting.

Thank you in advance.

Once you finish Procedure 2, if you boot up and have problems try going back to Clockwork and flashing the ROM again.

If you can't get past the Samsung screen after Procedure 2, try wiping everything 3x each per the procedure and then flash the ROM again.

Rooted mine and loaded SyndicateROM 1.1.0 tonight. Thanks for the excellent tutorial thread ragnarokx.

Okay, I reflashed Syndicate and everything worked. However, all my themes and things like SmartKeyboard and whatnot seem to be not working. They keep on needing to be forced closed.

Can anyone tell me what I need to search for, from now on, when I am installing apps?

Thank you for the help so far, this is my first time doing this, so I am absolutely noob right now.

Okay, it was just a matter of uninstalling the faulty apps and reinstalling them. I am in good shape once again. Thank you everyone for your assistance and patience!

Unroot Samsung Epic

I have a question for anyone who can answer it......I have the Samsung Epic 4G....I got the update for 2.2.1 Froyo(EC05), I got this update OTA back at the end of March, everything was working perfect. So I decided to root the phone so I could get the Wifi-Tethering(like many of us did). Here is my question....What is the safest and simplest way to bring my phone back to before I rooted it. The reason I ask is because, right now the phone is perfect has not given me any problems whatsoever... I am just starting out learning all the capabilities that my phone is capable of without sprint telling me what I can and can not have access to...............I just want to know as a safety clause.............Thank you in advance.....

You would have to Odin back to stock Froyo EB13 or Eclair 2.1 (DI18) and apply the update.zip method or catch the OTA if its still being pushed.
The thread below with its procedures will wipe/erase any sign of anything being done and reset your phone to factory new.

Procedure #1 is for Froyo EB13, Procedure #2 is for Eclair 2.1 (DI18)

[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

"update.zip" files can be obtained in the OP in this thread below

ALT0holic, i read this and downloaded and installed syndicate! So far so good! :)

Flash any custom ROM. I don't believe we have a Clockwork-flashable stock deodexed EC05 yet.

all i want is stock ec05 rooted ext4 but kernal i want (genocide) does not support stock ec05 unless deodexed

When I connect the Epic to the computer via usb, do I select Charging, Mass storage or tethering mode?
None, you don't select any of these.

You put your device in debugging mode (settings>applications>development> SELECT DEBUGGING) and follow the directions.

Reactions: Not too sure
I followed the instructions by the letter (for EXT 4, installed Syndicate, did not use Odin at all during this) and am now stuck with a vibrating boot loop, what is recommended that I do now?

Thank you for replying, ragnarokx, I was indeed following Procedure 2. I have done what you have suggested, this corrected my issue.

Im still new to the rooting world and am currently running Viper and was thinking of switching to Frankenstein, I wondering if I have the latest version of the clockwork mod, how would I know and how would I update if out of date? Thanks

If you have orange text when you boot into CWM then you are converted to EXT4 and you are fine.

The latest version is CWM 3.0.0.6 but version CWM 3.0.0.5 will also work if you still running that.
